LANCE Bass came out to Britney Spears before he told many of his other friends he was gay because he felt bad for her – and it was the last time they spoke. In a Q&A with Mickey Rapkin of GQ, Bass related, “It was the night of her first wedding, actually. I was in Vegas with her, her dancers, her manager, and my boyfriend at the time . . . Her manager had already gotten rid of [her first husband] Jason [Alexander] – they’d flown him home. Britney was upset about what she had done. I felt bad for her. I knew she was about to go through a lot of crap. I felt the need to share something. So I sat her on my bed, and I’m like, Well, I’m gay!”

Spears was “surprised. I was always the Southern gentleman.” The two don’t talk anymore. Bass said, “I tried. She’s my neighbor in Beverly Hills. She lives next door. I tried to get in touch with her – I wanted to be that friend to help her.”

Does anyone plan on buying this book? Lance Bass opens up about how he knew that Justin and Britney were not going to last long before they broke up! Duun, Dunn Duuuunnn. Newsflash Lance, I think everyone knew that!

Since the breakup between Lance and Reichen over the alleged affair Reichen had with MTV “Real World’s” Davis Mallory, Bass and Lehmkuhl have kept mum. But now Reichen has spoken out on his MySpace blog, without naming Davis, but referring to his “Latest MEDIA STALKER from Atlanta.”

He states that his interaction with “this particlar person” was “brief and of bad judgement,” and that Reichen “was warned to stay away from him.” Now Reichen wants “him” to stay away.

Back in January, when the reality TV personalities allegedly hooked up, Reichen claims that the unnamed Davis promised him that he would let him talk to Lance before their affair leaked in the media, but news got to Lance before Reichen had a chance. Bass then supposedly dumped Reichen over the transgression. Lehmkuhl sends a final message to the “mystery” man, “Dude, just leave us the hell alone… Stop trying to approach us at parties. LEAVE US ALONE.” Meow!

According to E!’s Marc Malkin, this past Thursday, Lance and Davis had an encounter of their own. Sources claim the two ran into each other at the Logo Time Warner Cable Party in Los Angeles and had a little chat. Later that night, TMZ spies spotted Lance with a group of his boybuds at Tiger Heat nightclub in L.A., an 18-and-over club. Lance is so over Reichen, he’s now on twink patrol!

A rep for MTV’s “Real World” said, “We are not commenting on this.”

Say it ain’t so!

The guy who hooked up with Reichen Lehmkuhl at an Atlanta hotel — and who broke up Reichen’s relationship with Lance Bass — tells Life & Style that he never meant for things to end so badly.

“I honestly can’t believe this has escalated to the point where they split up,” says Davis Mallory who, like Lehmkuhl, is a reality show vet, having appeared in “The Real World: Denver.”

A mag insider says that after a Reichen book signing, Davis and Reichen met at Atlanta’s Wet Bar, and then ended up in Reichen’s hotel room. Bass read about the hookup on the Internet — and that was that.

I’ve heard the rumor that he’s gay for YEARS now… and I don’t know why I’m suprised about him actually coming out…but I have to admit, I’m a bit suprised!  

Lance Bass, the former ‘N Sync heartthrob, reveals that he is gay, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

“I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys’ careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything,” says Bass, referring to bandmates Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake.

“I didn’t know: Could that be the end of ’N Sync? So I had that weight on me of like, ‘Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it’s bad.’ So I just never did,” he says speaking about his sexual orientation for the first time with PEOPLE.

Now, after years of keeping his personal life private, the Mississippi-bred, Southern Baptist-reared Bass, 27, is publicly revealing what he first shared with his friends, then his shocked family.

“He took years to really think about how he was going to tell everyone,” says his close buddy Fatone, 29, who was the first ‘N Sync bandmate to find out Bass is gay. “I back him up 100 percent.” Adds Bass’s longtime pal, actress Christina Applegate: “I’ve always accepted him as who he is. It’s about his own serenity at this point.”

Having pursued acting, producing and – most memorably – space flight after ’N Sync went on hiatus in 2002, Bass now is looking ahead to new beginnings. He is in a “very stable” relationship with model-actor-Amazing Race winner Reichen Lehmkuhl (the dude in the shower), 32, and is developing an Odd Couple-inspired sitcom pilot with Fatone in which his character will be gay.

Mostly, though, he’s just enjoying the relief that comes with the culmination of a long, at times emotionally fraught journey.

“The thing is, I’m not ashamed – that’s the one thing I want to say,” he explains of his decision to come out. “I don’t think it’s wrong, I’m not devastated going through this. I’m more liberated and happy than I’ve been my whole life. I’m just happy.”

As for why he’s talking about this now Bass says, “The main reason I wanted to speak my mind was that (the rumors) really were starting to affect my daily life. Now it feels like it’s on my terms. I’m at peace with my family, my friends, myself and God so there’s really nothing else that I worry about.”
