The University of South Carolina has created a course on the sociology of fame featuring none other than Lady Gaga. The course will force students to discuss why there are certain celebrities who wholeheartedly embrace their fame and fans (such as Gaga), while others have public breakdowns (a la Britney Spears). It can’t be as bad as the college who had an entire course scheduled around Lil Kim and the other who’s focus was Tupac.

Pop sensation Lady Gaga visited The View earlier today, and she spoke openly about her thoughts on recently deceased singer Amy Winehouse’s death as well as her own past struggles with drugs and alcohol.

“And I really couldn’t speak for like 48 hours straight….we can learn from Amy’s death.

“I don’t feel that Amy needed to learn any lessons. I felt that the lesson was for the world to be kinder to the superstar.[...]Everyone was so hard on her and everything that I knew about her was that she was the most lovely and nice and kind woman.”

Gaga said that she previously had an addiction to cocaine, but it’s her father who has kept her on the straight and narrow. When asked if she takes any drugs currently, she admitted:

“I am a little part of the green club sometimes,” Gaga said, referring to smoking marijuana.

On July 3, 2011 brothers Peter Berry, 9, and Aaron Berry, 8, and younger sister, Willa Berry, 6, lost their parents to a horrible crash in Texas. Peter and Aaron are paralyzed possibly for life. Willa suffered only broken bones. Celebrities have been reaching out to the family to help raise money to care for the children.

Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Usher, and Lady Gaga have been asking fans to give a hand with donations at showyourhearts.org and via text message (texting BERRY to 85944 donates $10).

Matt Berry, the children’s uncles says that the celebrities call to arms have meant the world to him and his family.

“My wife had this family member in the Justin Bieber camp, and when the accident happened … they reached out to us and asked how they could help,” he told MTV News on Thursday. “So, it’s been pretty much organic from their reaching out. Right after the accident, he was asking for their names and praying with his mom for the kids. It’s not something we expected would happen, obviously.

“So, my understanding is that he wanted to do something to help, and the best way they could help was to create awareness,” he continued. “They have a lot of friends and contacts. And then, of course, once their campaigns started going, it looked like a lot of people joined it because I think everyone had some sort of feeling of empathy.”

The family is still mending: Peter and Aaron’s “lifelong conditions” have been amplified by the loss of their parents; meanwhile Willa is still trying to come to terms with the incident.

Matt Berry said of all the public support they’ve received has “definitely helped.” “Anything that goes to help the kids in their predicament [helps]. I don’t know how long it will continue. I’m not someone who likes to be in the public eye, so it’s a little bit awkward, but it’s amazing.

“It’s a little bit overwhelming,” he added, but he said that right now, the family is taking it “day by day” as they deal with the aftermath of such a tremendously tragic turn of events.

“If it was up to us, we’d pray that they were able to stand up in a couple of weeks and walk out of the hospital, but the likelihood of that happening is low,” he said, adding that the boys are readying for rehab to try to heal in any small ways. “There’s been a lot of people supporting us, and that’s huge. The ultimate dream is if in their lifetime, there’s enough momentum to figure something out and fix spinal-cord injuries. We’ve got two of them that need something special.”

It’s wonderful to see these celebrities helping a family in need.

Lady Gaga, looking like an evil Mousketeer left her West Hollywood Hotel this afternoon. The singer took time to greet her ‘little monsters’ and even receive a gift in the form of a photo album titled “Little Monster Life” from a fan before getting in her car.

Lady Gaga went on AMP Radio this morning with Carson Daly and gave a live performance to promote her new single “You and I”.

She begins the performance with a bit of “Edge of Glory” – then goes right into her new song.

Lady Gaga put shock jock Howard Stern in his place during an appearance on his radio show on this morning when she shut down his attempts at discussing her sex life.

Gaga made her debut on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM show today, which cost the shock jock $500 after he bet his producer she wouldn’t show.

Stern, who is known for his controversial interviews, took the chance to ask Gaga about her past battle with cocaine abuse, and the singer fired back by warning fans not to get involved in drugs, telling the host, “I regret every line I ever did. So to all of the little sweethearts who are listening — don’t ever touch it. It’s the devil.

Stern went on to grill Gaga about her sex life, asking her whether she lost her virginity to ex-boyfriend Luc Carl – which she denied — but the saucy subject matter riled the “Poker Face” hitmaker and she refused to answer any more of Stern’s racy questions.

She told him, “I’ve got a lot of young fans and I love you and I respect your show and I know you want to talk about sex and cocaine, but honestly you should wait as long as you possibly can to have sex … I really think that kids have sex way too young.”

Gaga went on to reveal her on/off lover Carl is still a big part of her life and will even appear in one of her upcoming music promos, telling Stern, “Luc Carl is my best friend and he is going to be in my video.”

The interview later took an emotional turn when one of Stern’s show employees, High Pitch Mike Morales, who is openly gay, spoke to Gaga about her activism, thanking her for all she has done for the gay community, and the confession brought the pop superstar to tears.

By the end of the chat, Stern, who has previously been critical of Gaga, was full of praise for the star, calling her “terrific” and “the real thing.”

I listened to the interview, and I thought it was really interesting. Since it was radio and not TV, you really had to listen to her talk, and not pay attention to her crazy outfits. Whenever you see her live – it’s more about the performance than it is what she’s actually saying (at least for me, it is). So I thought listening to her without seeing her was actually pretty nice.
