California girl Kristin Cavallari is swapping the hills of LA for the Windy City! When the former reality star said yes to Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler’s marriage proposal on April 24, she was also accepting a life away from the spotlight.

“We aren’t going to do long-distance,” Kristin tells Life & Style. “So I’ll eventually move to be with him in Chicago.” But the 24-year-old admits moving away from her home state will be hard. “There are things about LA I’m going to miss: The weather is great, and I have all my little spots, like my facialist and the places I like to eat. And, obviously, my friends. But this is just a new, exciting phase of my life.”

Kristin also plans to get married in Chicago. “I want the wedding to be chic,” she tells Life & Style.

Kristin recently admitted it was her “dream proposal” when Jay got down on one knee while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas. Remembering the April 24th proposal, Kristin said,  “When he opened the ring box, it took me a second to say yes because I was in such shock.” As for the 5.2-carat Asscher-cut diamond ring he presented her, she said, “I was just staring at the ring and thinking, Oh my God, it’s absolutely beautiful!”

Did Jay get permission from Kristin’s father? She told US Weekly, “He went and asked my dad, which was really sweet, and my dad really appreciated that! My parents couldn’t be happier. They love him and his family is excited, so it’s great.”

How long until Kristin walks down the aisle? “It’ll be about a year engagement and then I want a classic and traditional wedding,” she spilled to Life & Style. “I can’t decide whether I want a small, intimate wedding or a huge wedding – but it will absolutely not be on TV! If we go with a bigger wedding, then I’ll invite some of the Laguna and Hills casts.”

“Because of the football season, it would have to be in the next couple months or next spring, so probably next spring.” She is likely to hold the wedding in Chicago, reasoning “My mom and that whole side of the family is there, and Jay obviously lives there. I think that makes the most sense.”

It’s been widely reported that reality starlet Kristin Cavallari and 27-year-old Chicago Bears player Jay Culter have gotten engaged after only 8 months of dating, and the 24-year-old former Hills star spoke with Us Weekly about her initial reaction to the Easter weekend proposal.

“I kind of knew it was coming, but I was definitely very surprised.”

She and Jay were introduced by E! network host Giuiliana Rancic, and Kristin claims she knew he was the one for her when they first met.

“I think that we both knew right away that it was very different and very special.”

She refuses, however, to give the goods on how he proposed, saying:

“I don’t want to say, but it was very romantic and very sweet.”

“He went and asked my dad, which was really sweet, and my dad really appreciated that! My parents couldn’t be happier. They love him and his family is excited, so it’s great.”

Kristin has already begun her wedding planning, though still in the infant stages, of course. The couple does agree, however, that the wedding will take place in Chicago.

“I’ve been ripping out things from magazines and I had just made a wedding binder, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten.”

“My mom and that whole side of the family is there, and Jay obviously lives there. I think that makes the most sense.”

Kristin claims they’ve tossed around a few ideas for dates, but nothing is set in stone.

Former ‘The Hills’ star Kristin Cavallari got one sweet surprise while on vacation in Mexico with her NFL beau Jay Cutler.

A source close to the couple confirms to PEOPLE that Cutler proposed over the weekend during their getaway in Cabo San Lucas.

“He surprised her with a quick trip to Cabo to ask her to marry him,” the source says.

Cavallari, 24, who also appeared on Laguna Beach, and Cutler, 27, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, have been dating since last fall.

“I’m in love,” she told PEOPLE earlier this year, “and it’s been great.”

Her rep couldn’t be reached for comment.
