Us Magazinehas learned that as Britney Spears continues to unravel in public, Kevin Federline has been working behind the scenes to take custody of their children away from the erratic pop star.
A source tells Us that Federline, 28, and his mother, along with the help of Spears’ mother Lynne, have joined forces to aid Federline while he has cared for his sons — Sean Preston, 17 months, and Jayden James, 5 months — during their mother’s recent rehab stints, partying and hotel stays.
“He is beyond sad,” says a Federline pal. “This is the worst week of his entire life. He doesn’t even want to pick up the phone. Things are beyond not well with Britney, and he still loves her.”
Federline reportedly is now taking legal steps to protect his children. TMZ is reporting that Federline has requested an emergency custody hearing Thursday before an L.A. judge (Spears had been granted physical custody of the kids at an earlier hearing). Federline’s rep couldn’t be reached for comment, but Us has confirmed that a custody hearing has been set for Thursday.
According to our Federline insider, K-Fed made a call to his mother, Julie Bleak, on Valentine’s Day asking for her to help him take care of the children. Bleak flew to L.A. on Feb. 15 (the same day Spears, 25, checked into the Crossroads Centre rehab facility in Antigua). Our source adds that Lynne Spears has also been present for her grandchildren, taking care of the children round-the-clock with Federline.
“Britney’s family feels that Kevin has been a blessing and they are very impressed with Kevin taking so much responsibility,” says a Spears family source. “Britney’s family found out from the news this morning that Britney had left the rehab. Britney has not asked to see the kids because she knows she is not well and she does not want to scare Preston. She has no credit cards or cash. She is basically on the run at the moment.”

TMZ has learned that Kevin Federline has asked a judge for an emergency hearing on Thursday to discuss his custody dispute with estranged wife Britney Spears.
A court spokesperson says only K-Fed and his attorney are scheduled to appear before the judge, but adds “anything is possible.”
Federline filed papers in November seeking spousal support and sole custody of the couple’s children- 5-month-old Jayden James and 17-month-old Sean Preston. As TMZ previously reported, a temporary court order granted the couple joint custody, with Spears having primary physical custody of the boys.
Now, with Spears’ recent erratic behavior, coupled with the fact that she’s been in and out of rehab twice in the last week, all bets may be off.

According to TMZ she might:
Britney Spears has been making late-night phone calls to K-Fed in hope of a reconciliation, so say several of Kevin’s close peeps. They tell TMZ that Britney’s relationship with Isaac Cohen is a ruse to make Kevin jealous.
But other sources — frankly, the ones that ring true for TMZ — say Britney is so over him. They tell us that Brit and the Fed have very little contact, and when they do communicate, it’s about their two kids.
By the way, according to these sources, the reports that Britney will ante up $25 mil to K-Fed to end their marriage are ridiculous. One source says the $25 million figure is grossly inflated, “by 25 times.” In other words, the bad news is that K-Fed will be a millionaire. The good news — just barely.

On the heels of Kevin Federline’s new gig shilling for Nationwide Insurance comes another offer for employment courtesy of Taco Bell.
Greg Creed, the bunless company’s president, is inviting 28-year-old K-Fed to come work at Taco Bell for a one-hour shift. He’s even promising to give away their latest artery-assaulting creation for free to the restaurant’s customers if he agrees. See the letter below:
Dear Mr. Federline,First off, congratulations on your upcoming Super Bowl ad. We heard it’s generating a lot of talk, particularly about working in the fast food industry.
We know you respect those who work in our business. In fact, last year you said in an interview, “My kids are going to have to learn what a real job is, what life is. You don’t have it easy with me. Period. My kids are going to work at Taco Bell.”
We’re flattered, but obviously they’re too young to work for us. So here’s our offer to you: Come work for us, just for a one hour shift. We’ll get you a uniform, a custom name tag and show you what a great place Taco Bell is to work. We’ll even reward customers who visit that restaurant with an order of our new Carne Asada Steak Grilled Taquitos for free.
We encourage you to continue to “Think Outside the Bun” and hope you accept our tasty offer.
Sincerely,
Greg Creed
President
Taco Bell Corp.
No word yet on whether or not he’ll actually take TB up on their offer.

Looks like K-Fed is making good on his threat to hit up Britney Spears for big bucks.
Kevin Federline turned down a $25 million divorce settlement from the “Oops, I Did It Again” singer, according to Star.
At one point, Federline was reportedly looking for $50 million from his estranged wife and the mother of two of his children — but the source insists it’s not greed — but love of their kids.
“Kevin says that Britney offered him $10 million to walk away from their marriage and to relinquish custody of their kids, but he just laughed. Then she came back with $20 million which he turned down too,” a source told the tab “Now he says she’s offering a whopping $25 million, and that’s her final offer. He told her to take a hike! He loves his two little boys, and there’s no way he’s going to disappear from their lives.”

This is KFed’s Nationwide Insurance commercial that will air during the Super Bowl. At least he’s capable of making fun of himself (along with everyone else).
Enjoy!
