Live cohost Michael Strahan may be leaving soon, but Kelly Ripa is staying RIGHT WHERE SHE IS.
Amid the drama surrounding Strahan’s exit, speculation swirled that Ripa, 45, might want to leave for a show such as GMA or The View, as she’s an older, kinda-boring lady with a lot of energy and opinions. And honestly, those shows probably pay better for what she’s offerin.’ BUT- Ripa insists Live is her daytime TV home.Which might be the case, but might not. Hard to say if a show will fly with just Kelly. People reports:
“Our show is very different than your standard television program that has hosts on air. We do everything out in the open,” Ripa tells PEOPLE in an interview for this week’s cover story. “If we need to know something it’s usually written on a card. If we need to talk to the director we yell up to the director and he yells down over a PA system.
Early in her Live tenure, she was asked to fill in temporarily for Meredith Vieira on The View – and she ended up making a faux pas on air that she still recalls with laughter.
“I have this earpiece in,” says Ripa. “We’re talking to – and I can’t for the life of me remember who the celebrity was, because I freaked myself out so much – but [the producers in my ear] said, ‘Kelly?’ And on the air I say out loud, ‘Yes?’ And they say, ‘Okay, don’t answer us out loud.’ And I say, ‘Okay, I’m sorry, I won’t [still out loud].’ “Ripa eventually got the hang of it, but says she still prefers the environment she has cultivated at Live.Live is my daytime home. That is where I am the most comfortable, that allows me the freedom to do other projects, and raise my children, and be able to show up for all of their practices, and all of their extra curricular stuff,” says Ripa, who shares three children with husband Mark Consuelos. “It’s been a blessing for me as a working mother to be able to have stability, to be able to raise my children in one place their whole lives.”
So the difference is stability and not enough money for a prompter and a good means of communication? Hmmm…I’m not convinced, Kelly. This kinda just sounds like someone who wishes their show would never change, even though I hate to break it to ya, change happens.
