Katherine Heigl in August’s InStyle

090709-2-2.jpg

On Being Honest…
“Now I’ve got this moniker that I’m the foot-in-mouth gal, and I keep thinking, In what way? Because I said something you don’t agree with? Because I said something you don’t like? I’m just telling you my opinion. I hate the idea that I can’t be honest about how I feel about things because it’s going to piss somebody off who feels differently. That seems preposterous to me.”

On Using A Stylist…
“If it’s the Emmy’s or the Oscar’s I need a little extra help, but I just like to do myself because I don’t like all the hoopla,” Heigl says. “Inevitably it’s me who knows what I want. When I leave the house. I want to look in the mirror and go, ‘I feel like the best version of myself in this.”

On ‘R’ ratings…
“I know this is going to sound bad but I’m really glad [Ugly Truth is rated] R. I didn’t want to do another PG-13 movie. [In any real-life contentious relationship with romantic underpinnings] you’re probably going to drop the F-bomb once in a while. You’re probably going to say some things that are kind of harsh. And you’re definitely going to talk about sex. It doesn’t have to be so Snow White and Prince Charming.”

On Living Life Despite Tragedy…
“Here’s the deal: This is what my family and I have been through [her older brother died in a car accident and her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer], and although we’re not perfect, we are survivors… No one in my family ever said, ‘Life’s not worth living because this happened or that happened to me.’ It’s always worth living, and living well.”

On Knowing What You Want…
“In my early 20s, I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted… I was fed up with trying to be somebody else, and got really lucky and met a great guy [husband Josh Kelley] who loved me for me. I keep telling my friends, seriously, write down what you want and make it specific. Like, I’m talking, do you want a beach house in Venice? Be specific and be creative and define not only what you want in your career but what you want in your personal life.”

PS: That hair makes her look 10 years older, IMO.

Katherine Heigl on the August cover of Marie Claire UK

2w6rq0o.jpg

Katherine Heigl is the fifth highest-paid actress in Hollywood, with a successful TV series (Grey’s Anatomy) and two blockbuster romcoms (Knocked Up and 27 Dresses) topping her CV. She famously described Knocked Up as ‘sexist, painting the women as shrews’, went through heavy-handed and very public salary negotiations at Grey’s and withdrew from last year’s Emmy race because she didn’t feel she was given the material to warrant a nomination. In a (male-dominated) business where diplomacy counts for more than honesty, an actress saying what she actually thinks upsets the status quo.

You’ve said you have an opinion about almost everything. So what’s off-limits?

Nothing, actually, though people misunderstand that. Lately I’ve been getting a lot of crap from people thinking that I shouldn’t have an opinion.

Would you describe yourself as something of a feminist?

I’m not out burning bras, but I’m very opinionated about women owning their power. I look back at my twenties and see that I was much less confident. You repress how you really feel because society tells us what women think isn’t valid, that we’re frivolous and shallow.

How does it feel to be officially the fifth highest-paid actress in Hollywood?

That’s awesome. I didn’t know that. I have a tendency to go, ‘Oh my God, there’s nowhere for this to go but down’, but
I should take a minute to appreciate that. If it all goes away tomorrow? I’ll be OK, too.

Your new movie, The Ugly Truth, explores how to manipulate men. Did you ever try any of the techniques?

I think a lot of women innately know how to play their hand. I’m not a big one for the rules.

How important are your looks to you?

I always assume I look better than I actually do. I’ll feel pretty good about myself when I leave the house, then I’ll see a picture and think, ‘Crap, I had no idea that’s what I was looking like.’

When do you think you’ll move on from doing romcoms?

I know I’m catching some crap for it, but I really like doing them. People keep asking me if I want to do anything more serious, or Oscar-worthy, and I do, but I’m not quite there yet.

Katherine Heigl Not Leaving Grey’s

izzie-724993.jpg

Katherine Heigl isn’t leaving Grey’s Anatomy, a source tells Usmagazine.com.

“Katie will still be on Grey’s next season,” a source tells Us.

Heigl’s rep tells Us: “I am unable to comment.”

In February, her costar James Pickens Jr. told Us both Heigl and T.R Knight were leaving the ABC medical drama.

While Knight is off the show, as confirmed to Us by former costar Melissa George yesterday, Heigl negotiated her contract to stay.

Both characters’ fates were up in the air on last season’s finale. Knight’s George O’Malley was hit by a bus, while Heigl, who plays Izzie Stevens, underwent a risky brain surgery to battle cancer. In the show’s final moments, they were both unconscious.

T.R. Knight is a goner!

Dr. George O’Malley is dead.

Multiple sources tell EW that T.R. Knight will not be returning to Grey’s Anatomy next season.

Knight’s departure shouldn’t come as too much of a shock…

Not only was George flatlining at the end of the season finale earlier this month, but the 36-year-old actor has reportedly wanted off the hit ABC series for quite some time.

Tension between Knight and show creator Shonda Rhimes has become unbearable for both.

“He hates her, and she hates him,” one source said.

Knight, an original member of the Grey’s cast, was said to have become increasingly frustrated by his character’s lack of storyline and camera face time. In December, he asked to be let out of his contract.

Insiders say Knight has made no secret about George’s demise. No word on any future projects for Knight, but at least now he’s free to pursue other things.

Reps for Knight and ABC declined to comment.

Knight’s best buddy Katherine Heigl is supposedly still waiting to learn her fate with Seattle Grace. Rhimes began contemplating an early death for Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens after Heigl took herself out of the running for last year’s Emmys because, she complained, the writers failed to give her good enough material to work with.

Like George, Izzie was also flatlining at the end of the season finale.

Funny enough, Entertainment Weekly recently reported that Heigl will submit her name for Emmy consideration this year for her work as cancer-stricken Izzie.

Katherine Heigl is too expensive.

fp_1872369_pompeo_heigl_duo_020409.jpg

Katherine Heigl has hit another stumbling block on her way to movie stardom. Sources say the actress, whose just-concluded season on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” might have been her last, was dropped from a top-tier ensemble cast in the upcoming romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day” because she demanded an astronomical salary.

The flick, which is scheduled to be released in February 2011, is directed by Garry Marshall and has signed such big names as Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Shirley MacLaine and Bradley Cooper.

An insider told Page Six, “Producers at New Line originally had Katherine on their casting list. They wanted her for the project, but during the talks, she came back demanding $3 million for the role.”

Our source calls that number “ridiculous” because the movie has “an ensemble cast where there is really no one lead role. Actors are only filming between three and 14 days, and no other actors asked for nearly that amount.”

A rep for Heigl told Page Six, “The story is ludicrous. Early negotiations are a daily occurrence in this business, and just for clarification, Katherine walked away from this project for multiple reasons.” A spokeswoman for New Line had “no comment.”

It’s not the first time Heigl has come across as a diva. In 2007, after “Knocked Up,” she told Vanity Fair the Judd Apatow-directed movie “paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. I had a hard time with it on some days.”

She also caused a commotion when she withdrew her name from consideration for last year’s Emmy race, slighting the “Grey’s Anatomy” writers by saying, “I do not feel I was given the material this season to warrant a nomination.” Heigl, whose character was dying of brain cancer, did enter herself in this year’s awards nominations.
