Katherine Heigl is too busy for children

Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl has no plans to start a family with husband Josh Kelley just yet – because the pair is “too busy” to consider parenthood.

The Grey’s Anatomy star married singer/songwriter Kelley in December last year but the couple insist they are currently too focused with their careers to try for children.

Heigl tells People.com, “It’s nothing that we’re talking about right now. We’re pretty busy.”

And Kelley, 28, also claims his top priority is his music: “I’ve been trying to tour a little less. Basically by touring less, I’ve been making more music.”

Is Izzy being killed off of Grey’s Anatomy?

340x.jpg

Katherine Heigl could be killed off Grey’s Anatomy next season, a well-placed source tells Us Weekly in its latest issue.

The idea came after Heigl, 29, withdrew herself from Emmy contention, saying that she didn’t feel she was “given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination.”

In response to Heigl’s griping, staffers are considering giving her character, Dr. Izzie Stevens, a brain tumor.

“[Producer] Shonda [Rhimes] and the writers are pissed at her,” the source tells Us. “It’s their way of screwing with her. She won’t know whether she’s going to live or die.”

Still, there’s good news for fans sad to see Izzie suffer: newly single Jeffrey Dean Morgan will reprise his role as hunky patient Denny Duquette, whom Izzie will see in visions brought on by the tumor.

And a second source thinks the story arc, ironically, may not be a bad thing for Heigl: “If her character does get a brain tumor, she’ll probably get an Emmy!”

A rep for ABC tells Us, “We can confirm that [Morgan] will be back, but we are not releasing any further details.”

The show returns September 25 with a two-hour premiere.

Katherine Heigl says she’s not leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

spl35150_004.jpg

Katherine Heigl has come under fire after saying she pulled out of the Emmy race because Grey’s Anatomy didn’t give her strong material last season. But the popular actress seemed unfazed by all the hoopla as she watched her husband, singer Josh Kelley, perform at LA’s Hotel Cafe on June 20. Asked if she’s returning to the show next season, Katherine told Life & Style, “Of course, absolutely. Those people are like my family.”

While Katherine, 29, didn’t specifically address the brouhaha over her recent remarks, she was more positive about the show’s writers this time. Talking about her castmates, she said, “It’s so funny because we have such serious material to perform, and then we spend the whole day joking around.”

It’ll be no laughing matter, though, if Katherine eventually does exit the show. But the Grey’s execs are prepared. “They already have a wish list of who can fill the void,” says an insider. “They will introduce a new, intense blond bombshell who will get people talking about the show like they used to.”

NY Magazine lashes out at Katherine Heigl

heigl.jpg

New York Magazine TV writer Emma Rosenblum has, in her words, “surprisingly strong feelings” about the recent Katherine Heigl Emmy brouhaha. We offered her space to give Heigl a little bit of career advice.

Dear Katherine (Kate? Katie?),

So you’ve acted out once again (no pun intended!). You’ve withdrawn your name from Emmy eligibility, because, in your words, ”I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination.” And now you’ve started a fight with the writers of Grey’s Anatomy. Their feelings are hurt, Katie: “It’s an ungrateful slap in the face,” one show insider told EW. You actually won the Emmy for supporting actress last year, which was really so lovely for you. So why, this year, are you so sure your material doesn’t even warrant a nomination? Let’s think.

Okay, Heigl, we agree that Izzie’s story lines have become increasingly marginal and unbelievable. Lately, everyone on the show seems to think that Izzie’s completely irritating. So do we! We actually groan aloud when your perky face appears onscreen! There’s a theory we have about this, Katherine, so listen closely. Have you ever thought that maybe the writers are incorporating your own personality into that of your character? Because we read a lot of women’s magazine and gossip sites, and we think we kind of know you at this point. And guess what? You’re totally annoying and self-righteous, just like Izzie!

Of course, we, too, were offended by Isaiah Washington. He called your on- and-off-screen best friend, T.R. Knight, a faggot, and that’s just uncalled for. You established yourself as Knight’s defender and kept speaking to the press about how Washington should be fired. So we guess that’s nice of you and all, but you really should have let your friend fight his own battle. You ended up looking pretty darn priggish.

And then (and then!) you called your own hit movie, Knocked Up, “a little sexist.” You have a right to your opinion, and we might even agree with you. But you were Apatow’s first choice for that movie, you did it, you made lots of money, and it made you a certified movie star. What possessed you to bash it? Do you think you’re above the work that you do? It was a comedy, and you profited tremendously. You’re no Streep, honey, and even she does Abba with a smile.

Now we’re going to throw you a bone: We think you’re a talented comedic actress. That’s right, your timing is much better than most, and you have a goofy onscreen persona that combines nicely with your California-girl looks. Plus, My Father the Hero was one of our favorite movies growing up, so we’ll always have a soft spot for you, Heig-y. Though last week, in a dark moment, we watched 27 Dresses on demand. Now that was a case of writers messing up your material.

So please take our advice. Grey’s Anatomy is a soap opera. Get off your high horse, missy. You talk all about the integrity of the Academy? Ha! You know they’re giving an Emmy to a reality-TV show host this year, right? Stop pissing off your writers and directors and castmates. We want to like you, Katherine, really. Please stop making it so hard to do so.

Warmest regards,
Emma Rosenblum

‘Grey’s’ insider calls Heigl’s Emmy comments ‘an ungrateful slap’

wenn5146971.jpg

One day after Grey’s Anatomy’s Katherine Heigl announced that she would drop out of this year’s Emmy race, because “I do not feel I was given the material this season to warrant a nomination,” a key show insider contacted EW.com to express regret that the actress publicly complained about the drama. “The show bent over backwards to accommodate her film schedule, and then she criticizes the show for lack of material?” the insider said. “It’s an ungrateful slap in the face to the very writers responsible for her Emmy win in the first place.”

Heigl made the comments on June 12 after Gold Derby discovered the star’s name was not on a list of Emmy contenders distributed by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The omission was especially bizarre considering that Heigl won last year’s award for best supporting actress in a drama.

Critics jeered Heigl’s performance early in the season, complaining about the romance between her character, Izzie, and George (T.R. Knight). But the actress shined in Grey’s season finale when her character redeemed herself and her career at Seattle Grace.

This isn’t the first time Heigl has publicly criticized the show that helped to make her a household name. Last year, the actress dropped out of salary renegotiations, reportedly because she felt the studio doesn’t value her as much as it does her cohorts. ABC TV Studio fired back, insisting the Grey’s actress had been offered a substantial raise. Heigl has since received a salary bump.

Katherine Heigl drops out of the Emmy race

Katherine Heigl

Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl has taken herself out of the race for this year’s Emmy Awards.

“I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention,” Heigl told L.A. Times columnist Tom O’ Neil. “In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials,” she added.

Heigl – who won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series last year – isn’t one to hold back her feelings.

The actress dubbed her flick Knocked Up “a little sexist,” called a Grey’s Anatomy plot line a “ratings ploy” and defended T.R. Knight against a homophobic slur from Isaiah Washington.

“I always tell it like it is,” Heigl has said.
