ABC announced late Friday that they had picked up the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off series, tentatively titled Private Practice for next season.

After the success of the May 3 test episode that was part of a two hour Grey’s extravaganza, the pick-up was a no-brainer for the network. In addition to Kate Walsh‘s Addison Montgomery-Shepherd, the new show stars Taye Diggs (Day Break), Tim Daly (The Nine, Wings), Hector Elizondo (Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries), Paul Adelstein (Prison Break), Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars), Merrin Dungey (Alias) and Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy).

While this certainly simplifies the race for a chief at Seattle Grace (not to mention a number of people’s love lives), it seems most Grey’s fans would rather see Addison continue her ongoing anatomy lesson with Dr. Alex Karev.

ABC has released over 40 promotional stills over the weekend from the most talked about episode of “Grey’s Anatomy”. The stills reveal what the new spin-off series “Private Practice” (still hate the title) might look like come fall.

The episode will be entitled “The Other Side of This Life – Part 1 and 2″. It will air on Thursday, May 3 from 9:00-11:00 p.m., with the encore telecast scheduled for Friday, May 4, 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The working title of the series is “Private Practice.”

More troubles on the set of “Grey’s Anatomy.”

A spinoff of the popular series is in the works that will feature actress Kate Walsh’s character, Dr. Addison Montgomery, and some other cast members reportedly are feeling blindsided and short-changed.

“The rest of the cast seemed instantly resentful of [Walsh],” a source told Star. “They each thought they’d be the one chosen to get their own show, and now they’re giving Kate the cold shoulder.”

The source adds that “Grey’s” star Ellen Pompeo “seemed particularly peeved because she felt that, as the star, she should have been consulted.”

The upset comes just as the storm over a furor over cast member Isaiah Washington’s gay slurs began to subside.

Laments the source: “Things had finally settled down and now everyone’s disgruntled again.”
