Kate Hudson has fired back at claims she stole the idea for a line of haircare products.

The actress was named in a lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles on Friday, which suggests she took a sample given to her by bosses at 220 Labs and created her own line with it this past June with celebrity stylist David Babaii.

The product, David Babaii for Wildaid, is an eco-friendly collection of shampoos and styling aids, which is said to contain a special key ingredient – volcanic ash – which bosses at 220 Labs claim was their own secret idea.

Hudson, Babaii and their current manufacturer, Universal, have been charged misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of contract, breach of confidence and fraud in the legal documents.

But a spokesperson for the actress denies the claims: “Kate does not know the plaintiffs and has never met with them or spoken with them. Her representatives believe that the claims are baseless and without merit and (they) intend to vigorously defend the lawsuit.”

Lawyers for 220 Labs are demanding unspecified damages and attorneys’ fees. They are also asking for an injection against competitors’ use of their products.

Hudson’s rep insists the actress has yet to be served legal papers regarding the case.

Owen Wilson needs a new cell phone number!

Since Kate Hudson split from Lance Armstrong, she’s been speed-dialing Owen, her boyfriend before Lance. And sources tell Star the Marley & Me actor is taking her calls!

“He was frosty at first,” says one insider. “He felt betrayed when she dumped him for his friend Lance. But after a while, he caved in and has been sweet to her.”

Friends worry that Owen, who tried to commit suicide in 2007 after splitting from Kate the first time, will once again fall under the single mom’s spell.

Adds a source, “It’s not fair to Owen, because he really cares for her and ends up getting hurt.”

It’s no wonder Kate Hudson always refused to talk about her romance with Lance Armstrong. (The two recently called it quits after three months.)

“I’ve learned that things are better left private until you’re actually planning the wedding,” Hudson, 29, tells September’s W.

The actress — who also dated Owen Wilson since splitting with ex Chris Robinson in 2006 — insists it’s not easy keeping all the lovey-dovey details to herself.

“It’s so hard for me, because I’m so open, to hold back,” she says. “I could really just go on forever about this stuff.

“We can talk about Chris till the dogs come home. I married Chris, I had a baby with Chris, Chris will be in my life for the rest of my life,” she adds.

She says she has no regrets about spending her 20s tending to son Ryder, 4, instead of hitting the clubs.

“Am I gonna look back and say, ‘God, I wish I could have gone to that… that… concert?” Hudson asks. “I’d rather be listening to my son sing songs. I’d rather be watching him sleep.”

She also revealed the downside to her free-spirited personality.

“I have this thing where it’s like, okay, I’ve chosen to bungee jump off this ledge. I have to do it,” Hudson says. “And if the cord snaps, well, I might as well enjoy the ride down.”

Cyclist Lance Armstrong peddled for the hills, leaving actress Kate Hudson because he felt she was “too needy.”

Seems the Tour de France champ and cancer survival poster boy was feeling a bit ”smothered” by the actress. According to an Armstrong associate at his Livestrong charity foundation, the sports hero felt Hudson was ”just too needy,” and was coming on ”too strong, too fast … sensing Kate was way too desperate, a woman who clearly can’t be on her own without a man in her life at all times.”

He may have a point. Hudson always seems to escalate her relationships quickly — even turning things into familylike outings with her son Ryder ever-present, as he has been with Armstrong and with Hudson’s last flame, Owen Wilson.

One thing Armstrong reportedly liked about ex-girlfriend Sheryl Crow — and one reason that relationship lasted as long as it did — was that ”Sheryl’s one very independent woman. … Lance liked that,” said the source.

It’s only been four days since Kate Hudson ended her relationship with Lance Armstrong — and our spies have already spotted the actress smooching in the street with her ex, Chris Robinson!

The source tells OK! that Kate arrived at tiny Teteboro Airport in New Jersey yesterday in the early afternoon and took a car with her son Ryder to her SoHo apartment, where they were met on the steps by Chris.

“They were really affectionate with each other and gave each other a kiss which lasted much longer then a platonic kiss should last — 20 seconds, maybe a little longer.

“Without going into all the details the kiss was more than just friends. They seemed like something more going on and were very affectionate with each other.”

A pal of Kate’s tells OK!, “She and Chris have always been close and she turns to her exes after most of her breakups.”

And just yesterday another source revealed that Kate was “holed up” with another ex, retired hockey star Eric Lindros, at her mom and dad’s place in Canada, although pals say there nothing romantic between them.
