British actress Kate Beckinsale has given up on driving - after failing to land a license in California.
The star concedes she is the only celebrity in Los Angeles who can’t drive, and is convinced her nine-year-old daughter will be mobile before her.
She says, “I applied for my permit and then I failed the written test. It was ‘how many units of alcohol are you permitted to have’ I don’t know that. “My daughter’s nine. Soon she will have passed her test, then she can drive me around. Or I’ll get one of those old persons’ motorized chairs. “People always look so happy on those.”

Underworld star Kate Beckinsale was stunned to discover journalists lead similar lives to the stars they write about, after researching for her new role as a reporter.
The British actress plays a newshound who exposes a CIA informant in Nothing But The Truth, and spent time with real-life Los Angeles Times writers to prepare for the part.
She says, “I went to the LA Times to follow around some to the journalist girls there. I was so sure I would see all the different ways their jobs were so unlike mine. I was more struck by the similarities. It’s such a vocational profession where you’re passionate about your work and you’re married to another journalist, or someone who is passionate about journalism. It felt very similar.”

Kate Beckinsale is pleased she married an American - because she likes poking fun at his accent. Kate snubbed British men to marry director Len Wiseman in 2004, because she enjoys ridiculing U.S culture.
And the 34-year-old admits she and daughter Lily, nine, enjoy force-feeding Wiseman British delicacy Marmite.
She says, “I don’t understand how anyone has any fun if they’re married to someone from their own culture because we have an amount of ridiculous fun teasing each other. We gang up on him with our English accents, and make him eat Marmite and things.”
