Fans of TLC’s Jon and Kate Plus 8 know Kate Gosselin can be a strict mother.
But a newly surfaced video shows just how stern she can really be.
In shocking footage (posted on YouTube Thursday — the day before she and Jon celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary), Kate sits with her eight kids as they prepare to do a television interview with Access Hollywood in January.
The kids complain they’re thirsty.
“I want a drink!” Mady yells. “I haven’t had a drink all day.”
Kate ignores her.
“Mom, I’m going to get dehydrated!” Mady goes on.
Kate dismisses her: “Yes, me too.”
Kate then orders a bottle of water. But instead of offering her daughter a sip, the mom of 8 takes a quick chug.
“I need a drink now!” Mady pleads.
Kate tells her to “be quiet,” prompting Mady to cry, “You’re really, really mean!”
Though many believe that Jon & Kate Gosselin are trying to make their marriage work, In Touch can exclusively reveal that Jon and Kate have been secretly separated for six months — and are only “together” when they’re in front of the cameras. “They’re married, but it’s for the show,” according to Todd Cruz, a close friend of Jon’s brother and a bartender at 3rd & Spruce — a Reading, Pa., restaurant that Jon used to frequent. “He explained it to us at the bar,” Todd tells In Touch. “He said he was completely miserable and the marriage was pretty much done.” And though Jon has gotten a lot of flak for going out to bars and flirting with college girls, Jon revealed to Todd that it was Kate who ended their marriage. “Jon said then that he confronted Kate six months ago about her relationship with the bodyguard,” Todd shares.
As In Touch previously reported, Jon and Kate were indeed separated for several weeks this winter, with Jon living at his mother’s Pennsylvania home while Kate remained at their house with the kids. At the time, a rep for the show claimed he was simply helping around the house while his mother recovered from a foot injury — but Todd says the separation was real. And while Jon did move back into the family house, we can now reveal that it was purely for the sake of ratings. “Jon’s had it — it’s all fake. And Kate is putting on a show,” Todd says.
After a record-setting turnout for last week’s season premiere, viewership for Jon & Kate Plus 8 dropped significantly in its second week.
Fueled by ongoing media reports about Jon and Kate Gosselin’s marital difficulties, the May 25th premiere of Jon & Kate Plus 8 attracted a staggering 9.8 millions viewers, easily beating such highly anticipated network offerings as ABC’s Lost season finale.
The two newest episodes of Jon and Kate which aired this past Monday, however, scored only 5.5 million and 6 million viewers respectively. A precipitous drop, but still big numbers by basic cable standards.
Interestingly, neither one of Monday night’s new episodes addressed the subject of the Gosselin’s crumbling marriage. Instead, both shows were built around material which had already been shot prior to the scandal breaking.
Octuplet mother Nadya Suleman slams Kate Gosselin in a new video posted on RadarOnline.com.
“She needs to stop being so judgmental and stop pulling at straws for attention,” a visibly annoyed Suleman says after watching an interview Gosselin gave on The Dr. Phil Show last February.
Suleman rolls her eyes while accusing Gosselin of being “desperate for attention” and “over-emotional.
“My children are extremely healthy, strong and happy. Don’t you have, like, a lot of issues in your life? A lot of marital problems?” she sneers. Us Weekly has reported Jon Gosselin had an affair with a 23-year-old teacher. He was also nervous about Kate’s “inseparable” relationship with her bodyguard.
“Why are you so desperate to glob on to my life? For attention?” continues Suleman, who plans to shoot a reality show documenting life with her 14 kids.
Tonight’s episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 (filmed in March before Us Weekly broke the news of their marital troubles) showed Kate Gosselin spending her 34th birthday with just her kids.
Where was her husband Jon?
“I went out to Utah for, like, five days,” he says. “I just wanted to get back out there and ride with my friends. It just happened to fall on Kate’s birthday.”
Not shown on camera: Deanna Hummel, the 23-year-old teacher with whom Jon had a three-month affair. A source confirmed to Us Weekly they were together at a Spring Gruv party at The Canyon in Utah on Kate’s March 28 birthday.
Back home in Pennsylvania, the kids surprised Kate with a trip to Charm City Cakes, which is featured on the Food Network show Ace of Cakes.
Kate — who works out with a personal trainer to maintain her post-tummy tuck bikini bod — chowed down on lemon birthday cake.
“I never eat this stuff!” she says.
Jon and Kate also recorded a few of their couch testimonials together this episode — different than the gloomy scenes shot separately in the premiere.
“This season, sometimes you’ll see Kate and I interview separately. Sometimes you’ll see us interview together on the chair,” Jon explains in a voice-over played in the second episode, shown back-to-back after the first. “It depends how things are going. We have busy schedules. And that’s it.”
(Noticeably though, the couple only appear in the same town while taping testimonials — never in the episodes. On last week’s premiere, Kate said they may split.)
During the second 30-minute show, Kate takes twin Maddy on a trip to San Diego. Their plans?
“Shopping, sun, sand, spa, swimming, Sea World, sushi, Shamu!” the 8 year old ticks off. (She’s also spotted handing her mom her BlackBerry later on.)
Back on the grounds of their $1.1-million Pennsylvania home, one of the sextuplets, Alexis, trips and accidentally bites through her lip. (She isn’t seriously hurt.)
“I was on the elliptical and got a phone call,” Kate says.
“We usually don’t call,” Jon says, as Kate interrupts, “No news is good news.”
After last week’s premiere earned 9.8 million viewers (a record for the network), TLC announced they had ordered a 40-episode season.
On Friday, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine if Jon & Kate Plus 8 is violating child labor laws after receiving a complaint against the show.
Jon Gosselin spent Memorial Day minus Kate and the kids.
The same day the new season of their TLC show premiered, he was photographed drinking a beer with two ladies at Front Street Bar & Grill in Newburgh, NY, TMZ.com reports.
Where have Kate and the kids been?
Along with her bodyguard Steve Neild, she was spotted with most of their brood getting off a ferry on Bald Head Island, NC, Wednesday morning.
