Johnny Depp thrilled sick children at a London hospital on Wednesday - by dropping in unannounced, dressed as a pirate.
The actor has been in the U.K. capital this week to promote new movie Public Enemies, and took time out from his busy schedule to visit Great Ormond Street Hospital to cheer up young patients.
Dressed as his Pirates Of The Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow, he visited several wards - including the one his daughter Lily-Rose stayed in when she was treated for kidney failure in 2007.
A source said, “Johnny was so friendly with all the children on the ward and they absolutely loved his pirate outfit. He spoke to lots of the youngsters and staff - and made their day by posing for pictures with them all.”
The generous star has previously donated $1.5 million to the hospital to thank them for looking after his 10-year-old daughter during her health scare.

Johnny Depp wow’d a waiter while in Chicago after he stopped in at Gibson’s steakhouse. The waiter, Mohammed Sekhani, said that the actor left him a really nice tip — to the tune of $4,000!!
Sekhani said, “Johnny and his party arrived just after 11:30pm at the restaurant and requested a private room. He had visited our restaurant several times before while he was filming Public Enemies and he promised me that he would return after the premiere.’
Sekhani said that Depp and his entourage ordered shrimp cocktails while they prepared Clams Casino for him.
Sekhani added, “He also ordered some $500 bottles of Italian wine and he was in good spirits throughout the evening chatting with Mr. Mann and Miss Cotillard. I have worked with a lot of stars like Sean Connery and Robert De Niro but Johnny Depp is my favorite. He is a very soft spoken guy who is charming and sweet - when I wait for him he doesn’t like to too fussed over and is not in any way demanding.”
Isn’t it always nice to hear that some actors aren’t so full of themselves? Just another reason to love Johnny!

“Off his rocker”: Johnny Depp concocts another memorably trippy character as the Mad Hatter. Besides his Carrot Top mop, Depp undergoes a transformation with the addition of enlarged eyes tinted yellow. “He is so much fun and so nutty, I can’t imagine anyone else doing it,” says producer Richard Zanuck. The actor also employs an accent that Zanuck can only describe as indescribable.
UPDATE: I found pictures of Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts, and Anne Hathaway as Alice The White Queen (oops)!

When not making blockbusters, Johnny Depp likes to relax far from Hollywood – around his 45-acre private Bahamian island, Little Hall’s Pond Cay, to be exact.
As experienced from aboard his 156-ft. yacht, the Vajoliroja, an amalgam of the names of his children, himself, and partner Vanessa Paradis, “I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful,” the Public Enemies star, 45, tells Vanity Fair .
The Pond Cay life, he says, “is my decompression. It’s my way of trying to return to normalcy,” he says. “Escapism is survival to me.”
On the island itself, one can snorkel among barracudas and neon-colored fish, and nurse sharks in what Depp has named Heath’s Place, after Heath Ledger.
“You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom. And that rare beast – simplicity – can be had. And a little morsel of anonymity,” he says.

Johnny Depp, known for his decidedly untraditional film choices, can’t wait to retire from Hollywood and get what he really wants: a big old, traditional beer belly.
The actor, who started his career way back in 1984 with Nightmare on Elm Street has recently said “I just want to become a traditional old man with a beer belly. I’d like to be sitting on the veranda of our place in France, just staring out over the lawns”
Meanwhile, instead of working on his beer belly, he’s been working on gangster thriller “Public Enemy”, and being a good papa to his 2 kids.
