Johnny Depp loves French wine so much, he had 10 crates flown 4,147 miles to the U.S. during filming for his new movie Public Enemies.

The 44-year-old - who lives in the European nation with longterm partner and native Vanessa Paradis - asked for a selection from his own vineyard to be sent to the set in Illinois because he hates the taste of American wine.

A source tells British newspaper the Daily Express, “He is really enjoying filming but the only problem is that Illinois isn’t exactly famous for its vineyards and Johnny is quite particular about his wine. When he couldn’t put up with the local wine any longer, he decided to organise for a shipment of his own to be sent across.”

Johnny Depp has credited his partner Vanessa Paradis with saving him from his troubled youth.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star spent much of his teens experimenting with drugs and admits his destructive behaviour continued into adulthood.

But Depp is convinced that meeting his longterm girlfriend in 1998 was a turning point in his life - crediting Paradis with giving him a settled home life and emotional stability.

He says, “The encounter with Vanessa radically transformed me. It was liking waking up from a nightmare and then it’s a sunny morning. The birth of our children was a wonder of life for me. If anything, that is the proof that there has to be a God or some other beings of wonderful almightiness.”

The couple has two children together - Lily-Rose, eight, and John, six.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean hunk first shot to fame in U.S. teen show 21 Jump Street and fast became a favorite with young female viewers. But the “shy” star hated fans’ lustful admiration and the fame which followed, prompting him to shave off his hair and eyebrows in a bid to distract attention.

He tells Britain’s magazine OK!, “I just didn’t want to make a career of taking my shirt off. I wanted to shave off all my hair, even my eyebrows. And I did! I don’t fault TV stars who do teen magazines. They took offers that gave the big money fast, but they were dead in two years. I never wanted that. Frankly, I’ve always been shy, paranoid, whatever word you want. I hate fame - I’ve done everything to avoid it.”

Johnny Depp turned real-life action hero on the set of his latest crime drama Public Enemies, after saving a group of extras from being struck down by an out-of-control car.

Depp, 44, was shooting a scene as bank robber John Dillinger when a stuntdriver in a 1933 Ford car sped onto a patch of ice and skidded towards six extras, who were standing with their backs turned, oblivious to the danger.

But the Hollywood hunk spotted the potentially fatal incident and leaped into action.

An eyewitness tells British newspaper News Of The World, “Johnny slammed into the group with arms outspread, shoving them all back.”

Johnny Depp has been offered a whopping $10 million to become the face for American condom giant Trojan.

According to sources, Trojan bosses believe the actor, who is an advocate of safe sex, would considerably boost sales of their Magnum range, and help inspire an anti-AIDS campaign to send free condoms to less economically developed countries.

Although Depp has yet to make a formal decision about the offer, safe sex campaigners have already expressed their approval of Trojan’s choice. A spokeswoman for California’s Safer Sex Awareness Campaign says, “We’d welcome seeing a major Hollywood star helping to promote the cause. And there’s no one bigger than Johnny.”
