After being married to John Mellencamp for 18 years, Elaine Irwin is breaking her silence about their breakup. The 41-year-old Almay model is taking the split very, very well!
“The only thing certain in life is change itself,” the mother of two told GlobalGrind.com. “Change is good, some would say it is our greatest teacher, and I am embracing it.”
Mellencamp, who has been quietly dating Meg Ryan since the split, filed divorce papers last week.
According to Rob Shuter with Pop Eater, Meg Ryan is quite happy being back in the spotlight, and she doesn’t care how she got there. Why am I surprised?
Apparently Meg, who hasn’t had a major movie release since ‘The Women’ two years ago, is loving the attention she’s getting now that she’s hooked up with John Mellencamp. John was married for 18 years, and then Meg came along. I’m not saying it’s Meg’s fault – it just certainly doesn’t look good for either of them. Cheating looks good on no one.

“Meg couldn’t be happier,” a friend of the actress tells me. “Not only has she got a great new guy, she’s back in the headlines. It’s not easy going from being one of the highest paid actresses in the world to an anonymous New Yorker. Meg’s loving all this attention again.”
The newly formed couple hasn’t exactly been trying to hide their love as they’ve been seen strolling through [New York's] West Village and spending time on Martha’s Vineyard. And now insiders tell me the two of them are in talks with a major magazine to do a photo shoot together.
“Meg would much rather be back on the cover of the magazines announcing a hit new movie, but unfortunately that isn’t the case,” an insider tells me.
The 49-year-old beauty is fully aware how the world of celebrity has changed since she was burning up the box office in landmark hits like ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ and ‘You’ve Got Mail.’
“Now folks are much more interested in your private life than if you have a hit movie,” the insider says. “Look at Kate Gosselin or Kim Kardashian. They are always on magazine covers talking about their love life.”
Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp stepped out together today, pretty much confirming what we all believe – they’re a couple.
In these new photos, Jack and Diane, er John and Meg, step out of a car together in New York and Meg seems enraptured by her new beau, who coolly stares ahead, with a lit cigarette in his mouth. (For the record, the singer had a heart attack in 1994 and took off more than a year).
John’s son, Speck, started a Facebook campaign in 2009, asking one million people to join a group and then John would quit smoking. (Looks like that didn’t work out so well.)
But Meg at 49 is still smokin’ hot and was apparently pals with John and his wife during the marriage. Now, as you can see, things have changed.

The pair have spent time together on Martha’s Vineyard and in New York City in recent days, enjoying a fresh romance just as Mellencamp has announced his separation from wife Elaine after 18 years of marriage.
A source close to Ryan, 49, says the actress and the rock star, 59, began dating about seven weeks ago, and that Mellencamp and his wife had been separated for some time before that.
The pair have been spotted having coffee at Espresso Love, one of Ryan’s favorite spots on the Vineyard, and grocery shopping at Gourmet Garage in New York’s SoHo neighborhood – where observers tell PEOPLE they seemed happy and at ease.
“She usually comes in by herself or with her daughter. I thought that was her husband because they seemed for comfortable and familiar with each other, just like an old married couple,” one observer says.

Last week a rep for the 59-year-old rocker said he and his wife of 20 years, model Elaine Mellencamp, were over.
The Mellencamps “are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their accomplishments both as parents and as a family,” he said.
Now reports are surfacing that Mellencamp may have taken up with “Sleepless in Seattle” star Meg Ryan.
The pair was photographed arm-in-arm walking in New York City in late October, and a source told the New York Post that “Meg has been to a couple of recent shows.”
The Post said that Mellencamp’s rep had no comment on the alleged relationship, and Ryan’s did not return their calls or e-mails.
Mellencamp has been working on a musical, “Ghost Brothers of Darkling County,” and Ryan was may have been involved with that project, the Post reported.
Meg’s marriage to Dennis Quaid ended in 2000 after nine years of marriage. Meg admittedly had an affair with Russell Crowe during the filming of Proof of Life. After her divorce from Dennis – it was reported that Dennis had been unfaithful for years.
