He looks really…weird. I can’t put my finger on it.  Maybe his lips?  I dunno…I’ve never really seen why people go all John Mayer crazy.

John Mayer wrote this yesterday on his blog about the recent publicity surrounding ex Jessica Simpson and her new beau, Tony Romo:

Dear Dallas and Surrounding Areas,

This isn’t a sports blog, and it isn’t a publicity stunt. (but have at me if it feels right.)

This is about doing what I think is right as a person, in this case speaking my mind.

I have never known anyone to have more pride in their home state and their upbringing in it than Jessica Simpson has in Texas. I don’t really follow sports, but I have played some of my biggest and best concerts in your state, and having witnessed how dynamic the spirit there is, I’m betting emotions are running high right about now.

All witty barbs, blogs, and fashion policing aside, that girl loves Texas more than you know. It’s one of her most defining traits as a person. So please don’t try and take that away from her. (You probably wouldn’t be able to, but it’s less work for all involved.)

I just thought it would mean something coming from the guy who has the absolute least to gain from this. And if I’m out of line in having written it, too bad. I can spare a Wednesday’s worth of bad press if it means sticking up for a good soul.

John Mayer has reportedly split from his short-term girlfriend Minka Kelly.

The 30-year-old singer and the 27-year-old Friday Night Lights actress split over a month ago, but are “still friends,” sources have told People.com.

Despite the couple’s split, they’ve remained close, reports People – with Kelly showing support for the singer at his December concert in L.A. and accompaning him to the after-party at Parc where they got cozy in a booth together. The two were also spotted days later having breakfast in L.A. and also drinks in West Hollywood’s Sunset Marquis Hotel.

According to a pal of Kelly’s, “Minka told a couple friends that she and John had broken up but she really didn’t want to tell anyone.”

The couple hooked up earlier this fall, after being spotted dining together several times in Austin, Texas, in early October and again later that month in California. They also reportedly met up with Chris Ivery and Ellen Pompeo at a Knicks game in New York in November.

A rep for Mayer had no comment. Kelly’s rep couldn’t be reached for comment.

John Mayer & his “Friday Night Lights” gf, Minka Kelly grabbed some breakfast on Saturday at Mogan’s Café in Pacific Palisades, CA. Earlier in the weekend, the pair was spotted together at The Sunset Marquis.

Think they’ll be double-dating with Tony & Jessica anytime soon?

John Mayer recently admitted to having a crush on former talk show host Ricki Lake and she has said the same in return, however, she insist that the two are not romantically involved and their relationship is purely casual.

“I swear to God, there is no story,” she says. “I met him at a party. He admitted he had a crush and I admitted, hey, vice versa. That was it. I wish there was actually something to tell. There was nothing.”

According to some, John and Ricki have exchanged numbers and the New York Post’s Page Six was quick to say there was a romance between the two.

“He was adorable. Nice,” Lake told the PEOPLE reporter. “[But] I’ve been more intimate with you than I was with him.”

Even if there had been sparks, the single mom adds, the tabloid frenzy would have cooled things down. “The media [attention] blew my chances!” she mock-lamented.

That night, the two did both attend events for John C. Reilly’s new film, Walk Hard: The Dewy Cox Story, but their paths didn’t seem to cross.

Lake attended the premiere, where she again shot down rumors of a romance, calling it “completely overblown.” Mayer, meanwhile, hit the afterparty at Social Hollywood, where he sat with a small group of friends and noshed on appetizers.

John Mayer made a move on Ricki Lake at the Sunshine Sachs p.r. company’s Christmas party. The two talked about Lake’s new documentary, “The Business of Being Born,” before Mayer confessed, “I’ve had a crush on you for two years.” Helpful publicists then herded the two to a back table, where they exchanged numbers. Lake left & went to the Rose Bar, where Mayer texted her throughout the night.

Apparently, John Mayer is a bigger “player” than I thought! John was spotted “kissing and holding hands” and doing some suggestive dance moves with ex-flame Cameron Diaz at New York City bar Goldbar!  “They were totally on a date,” a source says.

On Monday, John was spotted with his apparent girlfriend since October, Minka Kelly at the Waverly Inn and then at Butter.

So I wonder what Minka Kelly thinks about his weekend with Cameron? I wouldn’t like it much!

The photographers following John and Minka asked if he thought Cameron’s “body was a wonderland”? The singers reply? “You should go on stage,” he told the photogs as they began singing the song.

Though they have been seen out and about everywhere and enjoying some heavy PDA, the singer says,  “I am single, and Minka is not my girlfriend.” Maybe someone should tell Minka that!

I don’t see the appeal in this guy do you?
