Nicole Richie & Joel Madden celebrated with family & friends at a Wizard of Oz-themed baby shower held at the Beverly Hilton hotel on November 18th. Mindy Weiss included touches like ruby slipper centerpieces, a yellow brick road lined with candy, & a live band performing tunes from the classic flick. Guests included Paris & Nicky Hilton, Lauren Conrad & Rashida Jones. “It’s nice to be supported by your friends and family. There are people here I haven’t seen in so long.” Richie told her guests at the event, which also raised money for the newly-established Richie Madden Children’s Foundation.

Nicole Richie is so desperate for her child to follow in the musical footsteps of her father Lionel Richie and her rocker boyfriend Joel Madden, she has been playing music to her bulging belly.

The 26-year-old Simple Life star and the Good Charlotte frontman have been preparing for the baby’s arrival by regularly playing a variety of albums on their home stereo. Madden, 28, says, “We play a lot of music around the house. Old stuff, new stuff, classic stuff, movie soundtracks. “We’re excited, happy and spending a lot of time at home. Just normal, couple-expecting-a-baby stuff.”

Their child is due early 2008.

A source tells Us Weekly that Nicole Richie, 26, teases Joel Madden, 28, about his two-and-a-half-year relationship with singer-actress Hilary Duff, 20.

“She will ask if he’s going to watch Lizzie McGuire DVDs or listen to Hilary’s albums,” says the source. “Joel tells her she’s being out of line.”

Despite reports that Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are getting married October 13, a source tells Usmagazine.com that the couple is not planning on tying the knot until after their child is born this winter.

In fact, the Good Charlotte frontman is going to be on tour when the alleged wedding was reported to be taking place. “It’s such a joke,” a Madden source tells Us. “We were all laughing about it. The tour is still on and they have no marriage plans yet.”

Indeed, wedding planner Lorraine Keseloff confirms that reports that she’s handling the Richie/Madden nuptials are totally inaccurate. In fact, she’s never even metthe parents-to-be!

“I have no idea how this all got started,” Keseloff tells Usmagazine.com. “It’s been the most bizarre weekend. It’s all completely false.”

I don’t know why, but he scares me to death!

According to sources close to the couple, Nicole and Joel will marry on October 13, 2007 in Laguna, CA. This could be exciting. How many of you want to be that this will actually take place on this particular day? I’m doubting it very seriously. The pair were making it seem like they would marry AFTER the birth of their expected child, but reports are coming out now saying different. I wonder what made them change their minds about that?

Joel Madden couldn’t hide his happiness about becoming a father on Ryan Seacrest’s Los Angeles morning radio show Tuesday. Madden told Seacrest, “I’m excited. We are all really excited about it. Its the best thing that has ever happened to us. It’s awesome.”

Though Madden and girlfriend Nicole Richie don’t know if they are expecting an “awesome” boy or girl, they’re already tackling important pronoun issues — as a couple. “Right now it’s an it,” he said, before adding, “Which sounds wrong. We call it the baby. When we talk to it, it’s a you.”

Dad-to-be Madden assured Seacrest that marriage remains part of the plan for him and Richie. He told the DJ, “Obviously, marriage is in our future.” Still, he conceded that their lives don’t really permit wedding planning right now. “I don’t know when or where or how, but right now our priority is our family and the baby. That’s all we’ve been thinking about. We are in love and are really happy.”
