First Official Still From “Phillip Morris”

iloveyou-still01.jpg

The first official production photo from the new Jim Carrey comedy I Love You Phillip Morris has been revealed on JimCarreyOnline. Adapted from Steve McVicker’s 2003 novel, and based on a true story. Carrey plays Russell, a criminal who falls in love with his cell mate, Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). After Morris’ release from prison, Russell attempts a variety of bizarre prison escapes in hopes of reuniting with the love of his life. The movie was apparently pitched as “Catch Me if You Can meets Brokeback Mountain“. The screenplay was witten by the team who did Bad Santa. You can read the actual book description below.

Steven Russell possessed unusual talents-he was a jailhouse Houdini with a specialty in fraud. Staging his escapes on a series of Friday the thirteenths, he managed to outwit the Texas criminal justice experts in four ingenious jailbreaks. The first time, he simply waved a walkie-talkie convincingly and was buzzed out by an affable guard. Another time he used a green pen and a bucket of water to concoct surgical scrubs and sauntered out. His ensuing escapes grew more audacious, as did his plans to reunite with his co-convict lover. Award-winning journalist Steve McVicker captures with a pitch-perfect blend of humor and disbelief the real-life story of Steven Russell, a con man so shrewd, relentless, and incorrigible that he’d be walking free today, if it weren’t for his fatal aw-he’s in love with a man named Phillip Morris. Written with exclusive cooperation and disclosure from Russell, who’s serving 45 years plus 99 years in a maximum-security jail (at least, for now), I Love You Phillip Morris tells an oddball American tall tale of what can happen when mocking the law, a daredevil spirit, and undying love collide.

First on set pics of I Love You Phillip Morris

2qnxjjk.jpg

As one of Hollywood’s top comedy actors Jim Carrey has played a range of eclectic roles, from a cartoon superhero to a Batman villain to a pet detective. And the man of many faces has broken the mould once again with his latest part in I Love You Phillip Morris, which began filming this week in Miami.

Strutting down the street in a tight black t-shirt, white jeans and a gold lion-buckled belt, with his washboard-stomached Brazilian co-star Rodrigo Santoro on his arm, a clearly buffed up and fake-tanned Jim was almost unrecognisable in character as a camp con man in the prison break comedy.

Based on a true story, the flick follows the tale of married father Steven Russell – played by Jim – who ends up serving time after a run-in with the law. While inside he falls in love with his cellmate, Phillip Morris. When Phillip – portrayed by Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor – gets released, Jim’s character tries to escape four times – leading to him being sentenced to 144 years behind bars.

To prepare for their latest celluloid offering, Jim, Ewan and Rodrigo apparently visited a local gay bar in Miami. “(They) looked like they were having a great time,” says a source. “They were laughing and joking and looked as though they were really trying to get into character.”

Jim Carrey’s depression book joke

Jim Carrey

Comedian Jim Carrey was joking when he announced he’s writing a book about depression, according to his publicist.

In a recent interview, The Mask star claimed he found prescription drugs didn’t help him beat the blues and that he is currently penning a self-help guide to combat depression. But Carrey’s publicist is baffled – because it’s the first she has heard of a book.

She tells PageSix.com, “There is no deal with a publisher in place, and he’s not actually writing a book. That is not in the plans for the immediate future.”

Jenny McCarthy: “I won’t marry Jim”

75369885.jpg

She’s committed to funnyman Jim Carrey, but Jenny McCarthy tells In Touch that they won’t be walking down the aisle. “We’re living together, we don’t want any more children and we’re very happy — all that’s going to be is a piece of paper, really,” Jenny says of marriage.

The 35-year-old divorced actress notes that marriage doesn’t mean love will last forever. “What is it a guarantee of? I’ll be yours forever? I’ll be faithful? Bull!”

The mother of Evan Asher, 5, also adds that she doesn’t need to marry to have additional children — because she doesn’t want more: “This womb is closed.” But she does admit that Jim, 46 — who’s been divorced twice — makes her happy. “He is the light of my life and we’re more in love now than we have been in our entire relationship.” Jenny spoke to In Touch on the set of a webisode for inthemotherhood.com. Jim has a 20-year-old daughter, Jane, with his ex-wife, Melissa Womer.
