According to Star magazine, Jim Carrey gave ex-girlfriend, Jenny McCarthy a nice parting gift when they broke up: $25 million!

“Jenny came to the realization that Jim would never marry her just a few months after they started dating,” a source tells Star. “So she told him she needed an arrangement that would insure she wouldn’t have to worry about her future or the future of Evan, her now 7-year-old autistic son from a previous marriage.”

Jim, 48, came to an agreement with Jenny: he’d pay Jenny $5 million for every year they were together. But the cash came with one condition, says an insider. Jenny, 37, had to promise never to publicly reveal personal stuff about Jim or his strange habits – of which there are many!

“If Jim doesn’t like you, he won’t even be civil toward you,” the insider tells Star. “He’ll ignore you and refuse to shake your hand – and stare at you like you’re from outer space! He also locks himself in a room with a statue of Buddha and obsessively prays for hours on end. And sometimes, he treated Jenny like a servant, barking at her to get him a drink or turn down the music. It was embarrassing to watch…

[Jim]… would also stay in bed for days, says the source, “not changing his clothes, eating or answering his phone. Still, Jenny would open the curtains, get him to shower and cheer him up. I don’t know how she did it.”

Now, with her big payday, the source says, “Jenny will always have nothing but positive things to say about him.”

Jim Carrey’s relationship with Jenny McCarthy isn’t the only thing that’s in the past. So too, he says, is a part of himself he’s happy to shed.

“I have freed Truman at long last!,” Carrey wrote in an explosion of post-breakup Tweets, referring to his alter-ego from The Truman Show whose entire life was surreptitiously filmed for a reality show.

“I am grateful for my avatar’s many yrs of dedicated service, but no one has ever won the Tour De France while back peddling. … so I killed him,” he wrote late Sunday night. “I do not plan 2 bow to expectations or to be confined by the fear of losing altitude in the ‘statusphere’! (my word).”

It has freed him to comment on such delicate matters as the Tiger Woods scandal and make a passing reference to Sandra Bullock’s marital crisis.

Acknowledging that “some folks out there are worried that I stay up too late,” he insists, “This is no breakdown! It’s a breakthrough! And if you’ll just loosen these straps, I’ll show you the difference!”

Jim Carrey’s PR rep instructed his client and Jenny McCarthy to Tweet the news of their split yesterday only after discovering the story had leaked to Star magazine, according to the tabloid’s editor.

“We put the story to bed Monday, and when his rep [Marleah Leslie] called our Los Angeles office to confirm that it was on a cover box, she told Jim to send the Tweet,” editor-in-chief Candace Trunzo told PopEater.

The new issue of Star, which only became available on Wednesday, attributed the split to the pressure Carrey’s admitted battle with depression had put on the relationship. It also claimed the couple had already trialed “mini-breaks.”

But the use of Twitter as a PR tool to get ahead of the story–and the impact of Carrey’s depression–are the missing pieces in the surprise conclusion of a seemingly-solid Hollywood union that had baffled observers.

University of Washington sociology professor and relationship expert Dr. Pepper Schwartz said the lack of “heat and anger” indicated by coordinated Tweets suggested the relationship dissolved over long-standing issues, rather than something explosive like an affair.

Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have broken up, after 5 years together. They’re both handling it like mature adults, and announcing their split on Twitter.  I was surprised to hear they broke up…they were such a cute couple! Perfect for each other!

ET has learned that Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have broken up.

“Jim and Jenny have recently decided to end their five year relationship. They are grateful for the many blessings they have shared and wish each other the very best,” Carey’s rep Marleah Leslie confirms to ET.

What do you get the guy that has everything for Valentine’s Day? That was the question that actress Jenny McCarthy was facing as the oft-vexing holiday was fast approaching last week.

Stuck between a rock and a romantic place, and with no clue as to what to get for her partner of four years, Jim Carrey, the actress turned to the most logical place for answers to matters of the heart: She Tweeted.

“I really didn’t know what to do,” McCarthy tells People, “I went on my Twitter, and I said, ‘Hey guys, can you help me come up with a good gift for Jim?”

Tweet and ye shall receive. It wasn’t long before the actress was inundated with suggestions. “It seemed like I looked through thousands of them,” McCarthy, 37, tells People. “There were too many strange ones to remember, but the best one was, ‘Why don’t you get a skywriter?’” And so the legend of the “J ‘Hearts’ J” was born …. almost.

McCarthy had the skywriter, all she needed was for Carrey to be looking up while her message of love was being spelled out across the clear blue Los Angeles sky, a feat that turned out to be a bit more difficult than McCarthy expected.

“We were outside, and then he went inside, and the guy started!” she says, her voice still tinged with disbelief. “I was like, ‘Where are you! Why don’t you come out?!’ ” And when Carrey finally did reemerge, things seemed to only get worse, despite the frantic actress’ best efforts. “I said, ‘Look! Some guy is doing some sky writing!’ ” she explains, “And he went, ‘Oh, yeah…’ and he walked away!”

In the end, McCarthy decided to take matters into her own hands, before her labor of love simply drifted away, unappreciated, into the ether. “I had to grab [Jim] and say, ‘No, no, no, look how cute this is!’ ” McCarthy says, laughing, “And then he goes, ‘Oh my God, it’s a J … Can you imagine if somebody wrote our names in the sky?’ Literally. So then I said, ‘Yeah, it was me.’ ”

But all that work did not go in vain, as McCarthy was able to knock off two lovebirds with one stone – her sky written message had impressed not just one, but both of the men in her life.

[Jim] was floored by it, he actually loved it,” she says, before adding, “My son, Evan, went crazy as well. He thought it was the greatest gift ever.”
