The tenth season premiere of aging juggernaut “American Idol” fell 13 percent among total viewers and 18 percent in the ad-coveted demographic of 18-49-year olds, according to preliminary data from Nielsen. The much-hyped two-hour opener, featuring new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, was watched by 26.1 million viewers with a 9.7 in the demo.
Last year’s premiere — which kicked off the final year of Simon Cowell, considered by many observers to be the show’s linchpin — was watched by 29.9 million viewers and averaged an 11.8 demo rating. That was down slightly compared to the 2009 premiere, which averaged 30.4 million viewers and an 11.7 rating in the demo.
“American Idol” has been declining since the 2007 season when the premiere installment attracted a high of 37.4 million viewers with a 15.8 in the demo.
Last night’s decline is not entirely surprising given the shows age and this year’s makeover. But the premiere most likely benefited from a curiosity factor ratings boost. So the true test of “Idol’s” staying power – and Lopez and Tyler’s success as judges — will come as the season wears on.
I watched about half of the show, and I have to say – I think it’s doomed. It wasn’t that interesting at all. Without Simon Cowell, I think the show is going to bomb. I was annoyed with Steven singing along with the contestants – I was annoyed with how much Jennifer kept saying “This is so hard!” – and annoyed with Randy Jackson – just in general. I don’t think the three of them have good chemistry, and I really was very disappointed! I don’t think it’s going to survive without Simon. Did you watch it? What did you think?
New American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez said she was so afraid controversial Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais would make a mean crack about her, so she pulled him aside back stage to try to scare him.
“He’s very gutsy, it takes a lot of guts to get up there and make the comments he made and go for that type of comedy,” she tells Access Hollywood. “I’m sure in his mind it was all in good fun. But in the room, being in the room it was like, eek… Then, when I go backstage to present, I’m backstage with Alec [Baldwin], we’re about to walk out, and Ricky shows up. I say, ‘Listen! I will kill you, you understand, I am from New York, my husband fights, we both fight, we will beat you up after the show… with a couple of bleep bleeps in there.”
In the end, he made a crack about her extravagant spending habits, but she said she didn’t mind it.
“I scared him,” Lopez later told Ellen DeGeneres on her show. “He was scary, though.”
This is a big week for Jennifer Lopez! American Idol debuts on this Wednesday, and the singer takes the hot seat as judge for the first time! On top of this, she is also debuting a new song! Unfortunately for her, the song, “On the Floor” sounds terrible!
With a lengthy intro by rapper Pitbull, Lopez attempts to prove she can still create a hot dance track but this ain’t “Waiting for Tonight.” It’s more like “Waiting for This to Get Good.” I just don’t buy a 40-year-old mom clubbing in Ibiza. Also, Lopez includes dated references of how “ill” the club is as well as the wedding DJ classic, “Raise the roof!” She might as well have added in a “Gettin’ jiggy with it!” for good measure. And yet here’s the sad truth: If I hear this song in a gay bar, I’ll probably love it and sing along.
Jennifer Lopez, 41, wasn’t afraid to pile on the bling when she showed up on the Golden Globes red carpet dripping in $5 million worth of Harry Wintson diamonds.
Dressed in Zuhair Murad, the American Idol judge topped off her look with a diamond paisley timepiece cuff (with over 600 diamonds!), a diamond cluster brooch in her hair and a diamond suspension ring with a 7 carat emerald-cut diamond.
But those jewels were nothing compared to Lopez’s iconic diamond Winston cluster earrings — they’re worth a whopping $3 million on their own!
Jennifer Lopezjust tweeted this picture a few minutes ago. She originally announced that she was standing on top of the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles – but probably decided it wasn’t smart to give her current location, so she changed the text:
Quick pose after lunch..and check the background!
In the background is a billboard in which she’s posing with her twins, Max and Emme, who model for Gucci’s children line. See a closeup of the picture here!
A lawsuit against J-Lo has been amended to include a deal that she made with Telemundo, but fell through.
Claudia Vasquez, long-time girlfriend of JLo’s ex husband Ojani Noah, sued Lopez earlier this month. Now we’ve learned that she’s amending the lawsuit and including the allegation that a Telemundo deal was not completed after the Telemundo lawyers decided they did not want to be adverse to JLo.
Noah and JLo have been embroiled in litigation for years, with Noah restrained from releasing home videos of his superstar ex wife. Now Vasquez wants to use those movie for a project about Noah’s life and that project naturally includes his marriage to Jlo.
The amendment to the existing lawsuit claims that Telemundo was interested in the project but ultimately passed on it because of JLo.
