Jennifer Lopez is speaking out on the end of her seven year marriage to singer Marc Anthony.

Just two weeks after Lopez and Anthony announced their split. Jennifer tells her side to Vanity Fair magazine.

“That was my biggest dream, and I really worked hard at it. We both did,” Lopez, 42, says of her failed union with Anthony, also 42.

Continues the singer, actress, designer and American Idol judge: “Sometimes it doesn’t work–and that’s sad. But I remain an eternal optimist about love. I believe in love.”

It was the third marriage for Lopez and the second for singer Anthony; the couple share 3-year-old twins Max and Emme.

Will she try again at love? You bet. “It’s still my biggest dream,” she says. “I am positive–determined to move forward with my life, bring up my babies, and do the best job I can as a mother, entertainer, and person. I now look forward to new challenges. I feel strong.”

Adds the star, whose pre-Anthony loves famously included P. Diddy, Ben Affleck and others: “I’m a hopeless romantic and passionate person when it comes to love.”

Although she doesn’t get into specific about her rocky romance with Anthony , whom multiple insiders have described as frequently controlling and jealous, the single-again Lopez sounds triumphant. “It’s not that I didn’t love myself before,” she confides.

“Sometimes we don’t realize that we are compromising ourselves. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself–if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now,” she declares.

But things are not bitter with Anthony, she insists.

“I will always respect Marc as a singer and performer,” she says. “We actually work great together, and he was always very supportive. Together we could make magic-—and we did. He will always be in our lives. He will always hold a special place in my heart as the father of my children.”

I don’t know who was at fault, but I would think both of them would be hard to live with. Divas!

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony announced their split last Friday, but the duo came close to parting ways two years ago because of Anthony’s fling with a flight attendant.

In the new Us Weekly, a source says that Anthony hooked up with a flight attendant he met aboard a private plane in 2009.

“Marc and Jennifer almost split up over it,” the source tells Us of the couple.

Seconds another insider: “Jennifer was going to leave him then, but Marc begged her to stay. They went to marriage counseling and she decided to give it another shot. He was someone she truly loved.”

Although Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck famously called off their engagement and 18-month romance in January 2004, the actor was happy to help as his ex’s 7-year marriage to Marc Anthony was falling apart.

Guadalupe Lopez, the singer-actress’s mother (and plus-one at the July 9 BAFTA bash with the royals in Hollywood), sought Affleck’s advice on July 12, multiple sources confirm in the new Us Weekly, out Wednesday. “Guadalupe reached out to Ben over email. She wanted advice for Jennifer,” reveals a source.

“She always liked and trusted him. [Ben] replied back on email, wished her well and offered what he could,” the source says of Affleck, 38, now happily married with two daughters to Jennifer Garner. (Lopez, now 41, wed Latin crooner Anthony, 42, just months after she and Affleck split.)

Three days after that secret email exchange with Affleck, Lopez and Anthony announced the end of their union in a joint statement. “It was a very bad marriage, and Jennifer got the courage to end things,” an insider says, adding, “[Marc] was a terrible husband.”

At issue: Anthony’s raging jealousy over Lopez’s career, his compulsion to control everything from her business endeavors and even her famous wardrobe, and, according to multiple sources, at least one extra-marital affair in 2009.

And despite her ultra-glamourous, ultra-confident persona in the public eye, Lopez “actually has low self-esteem,” one pal explains. “And Marc really played into that insecurity. That’s why she put up with his abuse for such a long time.”

Everyone, including Jennifer Lopez’s close friends, was surprised on Friday when they learned that Jennifer had filed for divorce from husband of seven years, Marc Anthony. Now that things have settled a bit, however, many are admitting that they saw tensions growing between the once tight-knit couple.

According to Huffington Post, many things may have contributed to the breakup, but ultimately, work had created a wedge between them.

“We knew something was going on when Jennifer took her mother, Guadalupe, to meet the Royals at the BAFTA gala in Los Angeles instead of Marc,” an insider tells me. “Jennifer and Marc see themselves as the king and queen of Latino culture so this would been the perfect opportunity for one royal couple to be seen hanging with another.”

Lopez’s decision to make mama her plus one also signaled more than a few red flags that there may be trouble in paradise.

“Whenever she breaks up with a man she surrounds herself with family,” a friend of the “American Idol” Judge tells me. “After her split from her fiancé, Ben Affleck, and before that Diddy, Jennifer flew her mom in to be by her side.”

But what actually lead the couple, who secretly wed at their Beverly Hills estate in 2004, to split?

“Work is what ultimately is the blame,” a friend tells me.

Marc has spent the summer filming the TNT drama, “Hawthorne,” while also maintaining his live performance scheudle and Lopez has never been busier — she’s taping “Idol” and releasing her new album, “Love?” Additionally, the couple is working on a new reality show, “¡Q’Viva! The Chosen,” in which they will search all over the world to find extraordinary talent.

“I don’t know any relationship that could survive the juggling of schedules of both Jennifer and Marc,” an industry insider tells me. “Angelina and Brad years ago agreed that while one of them was working the other took time off. Unfortunately, knowing both Jen [and] Marc, I can tell you that neither of them is capable of putting their career on hold when a great or big paying opportunity comes along.”

I think divorce is incredibly sad, especially when – if this article is true – work gets in the way of a happy marriage. They put more value on their careers than they do on their marriage/family. And that’s just heartbreaking!

If you listen to other sources, though, Jennifer may have stepped out on her marriage. According to TMZ, JLo is defending herself against infidelity claims today. Sources say Jennifer may have cheated on Marc with her “I’m Into You” music video costar.

The hot piece of man meat who starred as Jennifer Lopez’s shirtless romantic interest in her steamy “I’m Into You” music video claims he’s NOT dating the singer nor did they have sex … despite reports to the contrary.

The guy at the center of the affair rumors is telenovela star William Levy — aka the Cuban Brad Pitt — who recently separated from his wife AFTER shooting the music video (see below) with Lopez.

But Levy’s rep tells TMZ William and J.Lo are NOT an item … saying, “The only relationship there was or is, is a professional relationship. That’s all there’s ever been.”

After seven years of marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have separated, their rep tells Us Weekly.

“We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to amicable conclusion on all matters,” they said in a statement. “It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”

The couple are parents to three-year-old twins Max and Emme.
