R&B star Kelly Rowland has been left pondering the existence of a Jennifer Hudson curse on her and her Destiny’s Child bandmates, after losing out to the Oscar winner for a role in Sex and the City: The Movie.
Hudson landed the role of Louise, the assistant to Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw, after fighting off competition from singer/actress Rowland.
And the Dilemma hitmaker was stunned to hear she had lost out on the movie opportunity, because she was convinced she had it in the bag.
She tells WENN, “I can’t understand it because I did a really good job at the audition, a really good job!
“I hate it, and of course I feel that I should have the part, but then Jennifer Hudson’s just won an Oscar, so maybe she’s better for the role. But I was so bummed at that, I really wanted it.”
It is the second time in as many years that Hudson has triumphed over the Destiny’s Child girls – in 2006, she was awarded the part of Effie White in the big-screen adaptation of musical Dreamgirls – the role Beyonce Knowles initially wanted to try out for. The Crazy In Love beauty later accepted the smaller part of Deena Jones, in a story loosely based on the rise and fall of The Supremes in the 1960s and 70s.

Jennifer Hudson is gearing up to release her debut album – four years after she shot to fame as a contestant on U.S. talent show American Idol.
The Dreamgirls star will release her self-titled record in September, with the LP’s first single Spotlight slated to hit record stores in the summer.
Hudson has worked with a range of well-known producers on the upcoming SonyBMG album, including R&B heavyweight Timbaland, crooner Robin Thicke and singer Ne-Yo – who wrote the album’s first single release.
And the star can’t wait to show off her vocal talents: “I think people will be pleasantly surprised, because it shows a side of my work that no one has heard before.”
Hudson was voted off American Idol in the hit U.S. show’s third season in 2004, before finding critical acclaim for her role in 2006’s Dreamgirls, scooping an Academy-Award, Golden Globe and a BAFTA in 2007.

Jennifer Hudson was added to the cast of Sex and the City for the cult TV show’s movie adaptation so there would be a young black face in the mix.
Sarah Jessica Parker reveals director Michael Patrick King was very keen to sign Hudson up to play Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant in the much-anticipated new film – because she could serve two huge areas of Sex And The City’s audience.
She explains, “First of all we needed to have a 20-year-old in this movie; we really have to remember that there is a significant audience now that are very, very young.
“It’s a great way of reminding people who Carrie was when she came to New York; what was New York, what did it mean to her…And African-American women and women of color have been a big part of our audience for a long time (and) we really haven’t been responsible to them.”
And Parker couldn’t imagine a better onscreen assistant for her Bradshaw: “She is especially lovely in this movie… She is remarkably beautiful and she’s probably about eight inches taller than I am and she is a presence.”

Jennifer Hudson found it difficult working with her glamorous co-stars on Sex & The City: The Movie, because she was jealous of their high-fashion costumes.
The Dreamgirls star landed a role as lead character Carrie Bradshaw’s personal assistant in the movie version of the hit TV show – and longed to dress in designer wares like the four New York party girls.
But Hudson was left disappointed, as her character was unable to afford the expensive creations made famous in the show.
She says, “I wanted to dress like them. But it was unrealistic for my character. Her budget was not their budget. She was just a college kid… so she couldn’t afford any of that stuff.”
However, the star wasn’t left too glum with her budget outfits – because she hates wearing high-heels.
She explains, “To be honest, I don’t like any shoes. And I can’t stand high-heels. I don’t know what are the highest heels I’ve ever had. I’ve never been label crazy.”
