According to sources one of the straws that broke the camels back in Jennifer Aniston and John Mayers relationship was that though he spent hours on social networking sites, he often didn’t have time to phone, text or otherwise get in touch with Jennifer.

“Every few hours, sometimes minutes, he’d update with some stupid line. And in her mind, she was like ‘He has time for all this Twittering, but he can’t send me a text, an email, make a call?’.”

As he copes with another split from Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer has turned to Twitter to express his thoughts.

“This heart didn’t come with instructions,” he posted on Monday.

Mayer’s heart has been all over the place during his time with Aniston, 40: They broke up two times in 13 months.

In August 2008, they first called it quits. At the time Mayer blabbed about the split to paparazzi outside his NYC gym, stressing that he was the one who broke things off.

“I ended a relationship to be alone because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right,” he said.

They got back together and even attended the Oscars together last month.

“You have to really be with someone that you know who has your back in that situation,” he said of attending the show with her.

Alas, they split a short time later.

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer may have called it quits.

A source says the pair’s on-again, off-again relationship may have ended sometime within the last week, when Aniston returned from her overseas Marley & Me junket.

“He broke up with her when she got back from her European tour,” the source said.

Aniston’s rep did not immediately comment. Mayer’s rep declined to comment on the singer’s personal life.

But what are their friends saying?

One pal warns that we shouldn’t be quick to assume the two are through for good. As we know, this wouldn’t be the first time they’ve gone their separate ways.

Aniston recently opened up about love and romance to the U.K. magazine You. “Who ever said that every relationship has to last forever? That’s hoping too much,” said Aniston, who turned 40 exactly a month ago. “I think every relationship is a world unto itself.”

As for finding the perfect partner, she said, “I don’t have one and I don’t think it exists.”

Aniston and Mayer went public for the first time at the Oscars at the end of last month. Backstage at the Kodak Theatre, Aniston told Gayle King, who was interviewing them for her pal Oprah’s show, that she was “very happy.” Later in the night, they strolled arm in arm into the Vanity Fair postshow party at the Sunset Tower Hotel.

Most recently, Aniston was spotted on Monday at the same hotel grabbing a bite to eat at the Terrace restaurant. She’ll be jetting to New York City in the spring to shoot The Baster, in which she stars opposite Jason Bateman as an unmarried 40-year-old who decides to have a baby with her best friend.

Mayer, meanwhile, has been in the studio working on a new album.

Jennifer Aniston says she is a “realist” when it comes to her body.

“I know that if I eat nothing but burgers and chips, I’m not going to be hired for the parts I normally would,” the actress — who turned 40 last month — says in April’s Elle UK. “That might be fine one day, but not right now.”

Aniston — who does yoga two hours daily at her home gym with trainer Mandy Ingber — also says she would love to get more physical on the big screen.

“I get offered funny, quirky, pretty roles,” says the star, who will attend the London premiere of Marley & Me tonight. “I’d love to do an action movie. James Bond! Glamour! Daniel Craig! S–t-loads of fun!”

With two recent No. 1 films at the box office, she says she has to constantly remind herself how “lucky” she is.

“Look what’s out there. Look what people are really living through,” Aniston says. “There’s no comparison. I am happy.”

Aniston also sets the record straight about her 2005 divorce from Brad Pitt.

“No matter what I say, things will always be taken out of context and misinterpreted, will always be turned around to make it seem as though I won’t let something go, or that I just keep talking about it over and over,” she says.

“I don’t owe anybody anything. I don’t owe anybody my side of the story. There are no sides!” she adds. “There is no bad guy and there is no good guy. There are no villains and there is no heroine in this story. It’s just not the case.”
