Jamie Lynn Spears is desperate to regain her fit physique after she gives birth next month, but she’s determined not to harm her unborn child by exercising while she’s pregnant.

The 17-year-old sister of pop superstar Britney Spears has gained an estimated 20 pounds in weight while pregnant.

And she’s keen to turn back the clock and slim down as soon as it’s safe for her to do so.

She tells OK! magazine, “I try to stay active, but you can’t do too many exercises because that’s not good for the baby. No running on the treadmill. I want to get back to my old weight, but you can’t work out right away. I don’t want to stay this way. I’ll just stick to my treadmill and weights, and I won’t eat cheese every day.”

But Jamie Lynn insists she won’t hire an expensive personal trainer, like her big sister: “You don’t have to pay somebody a bunch of money to make you skinny again. If you want to be skinny, you have to do it yourself. And I love to swim, so I know I’ll be doing a lot of that.”

With her July due date drawing closer, Jamie Lynn Spears celebrated her baby shower over the weekend — and, yes, big sister Britney Spears was there.

On Saturday afternoon, Jamie Lynn’s family and friends gathered at Serenity — the Kentwood, La. estate belonging to Lynne Spears (which Britney purchased) — to fete the 17-year-old mother-to-be. The low-key affair took place in the guest house, where the simple menu included cold cuts, juice and champagne.

“It wasn’t anything fancy or exciting,” a source tells Star. “No big spread or fancy decorations. Just everybody sitting around and talking with each other.”

And just who is everybody? Well, in addition to the Spears women, the Spears men — father Jamie and brother Bryan — were in attendance. Several of Jamie Lynn’s cousins made the guest list as did some of her friends. Dad-to-be Casey Aldridge’s mother, Margaret Aldridge, was also there and was inseparable with Lynne. A source says they have been bonding over the phone the past few months, and have grown to be fast friends.

Britney, who hasn’t been to Kentwood in some time, was a popular party guest. Throughout most of the party she caught up with her cousins. She also made a point not to smoke around her pregnant little sister and even directed other people to smoke outside.

“She seemed like Britney again,” a source says. “She’s gonna be alright.”

The following day, the Britney and Jamie Lynn bonded while taking a drive together — without either of their parents in tow. Driving a borrowed car, they cruised along Louisiana back roads and made a pit stop at a local Sonic Burger.

“Both of them were just glowing, totally happy to be together,” says a source.

Lynne Spears isn’t thrilled that her youngest daughter is pregnant at 17. But she was delighted to go along with Jamie Lynn to learn the baby’s gender — and discover she’s finally going to have a granddaughter!

And she wasn’t the only one happy with the news. “I heard Lynne talking about Jamie Lynn’s baby,” says a witness. “She said Jamie Lynn and the baby’s dad [Casey Aldridge] were so excited when they found out it’s a girl.”

Though the witness overheard Lynne, 52, say Casey, 19, is “a bit nervous about having a daughter,” Jamie Lynn is eagerly prepping for the arrival of her mini-me. “She has been buying tons of clothes and is going to do the nursery in white, black and yellow,” says a Spears family insider — who also reveals that the baby is due on June 29.

Of course, Jamie Lynn has much more on her mind than just decorating — like figuring out what to call her baby girl. “Lynne said Jamie Lynn made a list of all the girl family names on both sides of the family and is trying to incorporate one of them as the middle name,” says the witness, who also overheard that “Lynne’s flattered to hear her name is being considered.”

Solange Knowles knows the challenge of being a famous teen mother.

Knowles, now 21, welcomed son Daniel in 2004 at the age of 18 (she split with husband, former college football player Daniel Smith, after the baby was born).

“I’m sure a lot of people perceived that I was gonna be a young, irresponsible mom,” Knowles told Usmagazine.com during a recent visit.

But Knowles pointed out, “I think that there are some moms who are 35 who are just as irresponsible.”

What advice does she have for the 17-year-old mom-to-be Jamie Lynn Spears?

“You just have to make the best decisions for you,” Knowles said. “You have to decide what’s best for you.

“Who are we to say what’s right and wrong for a person?”

To focus on raising her son, Knowles said she “moved to the country for a year” without any nannies or babysitters.

“My parents lived on a whole opposite part of the world,” she said. “My son has been my focus ever since the day he was born.”

“He’s been the light of my life,” she added, “the inspiration behind everything.”
