Closet chef Jake Gyllenhaal is developing a new organic restaurant venture with top cook Chris Fischer.

Sources claim the movie star once promised himself he’d open a top-end eatery if his acting career took off by the time he was 30. He’s 27. And Gyllenhaal, who has made regular appearances on top chef Mario Batali’s hit U.S. cookery show Molto Mario, is getting serious about cooking up a restaurant.

A pals tells Life & Style magazine that Gyllenhaal and pal Fischer are looking at real estate in Los Angeles – with a view to opening their own place.

The insider says, “Cooking is his (Gyllenhaal) big hobby and his passion.”

Reports suggest Gyllenhaal is even planning a summer vacation cycling tour of food-lovers mecca Tuscany, Italy with his girlfriend Reese Witherspoon – to seek inspiration for his new restaurant.

He’ll be the latest in a long line of Hollywood stars who have opened restaurants – Morgan Freeman, Sandra Bullock, Jeri Ryan, Ashton Kutcher and Tara Reid are just some of the celebrities who have tasted success as restaurateurs.

Los Angeles hotel the Chateau Marmont became a hot new couple’s hang-out on Friday night when Cameron Diaz and Gerard Butler joined Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal for a late night bite.

The foursome, who appeared to be the best of friends, enjoyed red wine and appetizers on the patio, according to Life + Style magazine.

A bystander says, “Cameron and Gerard held hands under the table, but Reese and Jake were slightly less affectionate – they called it a night at 3am, about 30 minutes after Cameron and Gerard left.”

There was almost a blast from Diaz’s romantic past at the hotel too, her ex-boyfriend Jared Leto was also spotted at the famous Sunset Boulevard establishment just before the actress arrived.

Diaz and Scottish actor Butler have been linked romantically for the past month, while Witherspoon and Gyllenhall have been dating since the actress split from her husband Ryan Phillippe last year.

He knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make it any easier for Ryan Phillippe to see ex-wife Reese Withersoon with her new man.

“It’s bizarre,” the actor told USA Today, adding that he avoids looking at photos of Witherspoon and boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal.

“There’s plenty of times when I say, ‘What a strange situation I’ve found myself in,’ ” he said. “But at a certain point you know it’s going to happen, so you are prepared.”

Phillippe, 33, split from Witherspoon – the mother of his two children, Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4 – in October 2006. The actress’s new romance first made headlines last March, when she and the Brokeback Mountain star were spotted dining at L.A.’s Il Sole.

As for Phillippe’s own love life, the actor – who’s been linked to actress Abbie Cornish – remained reticent. “It’s just something I would really rather not address,” he told the paper. “It has to be a ‘no comment.’ ”

He also insists that despite a painful divorce, he isn’t ruling out a second marriage.

“I can see doing it again, yeah,” he said. “And I can certainly see possibly having children again. I’m pretty young, and there are many beautiful things about that idea of marriage and family. It just doesn’t always work out perfect for everybody.”

Ryan Phillippe has given his ex-wife Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal his blessing.

Phillippe and Witherspoon, who have two children together, ended their eight-year marriage with a divorce last year. He is now dating Australian starlet Abbie Cornish, while Witherspoon is in a relationship with her Rendition co-star Gyllenhaal.

And Phillippe wishes Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal the best. Speaking to U.S. radio host Howard Stern on Thursday, Phillippe said, “He’s a good dude. I love her and I want her to be happy, and it seems like she is.” The 33-year-old added that his split from Witherspoon was a “mutual” decision. He said, “Leading up to it, we had been spending so much time apart. That’s a huge part of it. There are so many obstacles.”

When news broke last week that Kirsten Dunst had checked into rehab, fans were surprised because she is a respected Hollywood vet, but those who knew her were familiar with her partying ways.

Some Dunst pals even suspect her 2005 split from three-year beau Jake Gyllenhaal led to her wild ways.

“Jake was turned off by all the partying,” a source tells Us Weekly in its latest issue. (Dunst’s rep says that is “downright wrong.”)

Ironically, multiple sources told Us that regret over the breakup led her to party more – and use cocaine and alcohol. (Counters her rep, “She is not being treated for cocaine or any drug.”)

“Whenever the cast and crew were out, she was the center of the group – doing shots and encouraging everyone to drink,” a source on her upcoming movie How to Lose Friends & Alienate People told Us. “There was no such thing as ‘just the one’ for her.”

Dunst will remain at the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah “as long as she needs,” a pal told Us.
