FIRST LOOK: Julianne Moore and Philip Seymour Hoffman in ‘Mockingjay’

Today we’re getting our first look at ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’!

Lionsgate studios has released some new promotional photos. Joining the ‘Hunger Games’ cast this time around is Julianne Moore!

Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died during filming of the new movie, and director Francis Lawrence and Mockingjay producer Nina Jacobson opened up about finishing without him.

“We finished the majority of his work [before he died],” Lawrence said in the new interview. “I think he might have had 8 to 10 days left on our schedule. In most of the scenes, Philip didn’t have any dialogue. We are going to put him into those scenes, but we’re only using real footage. We’re not creating anything digital or a robotic version of him.”

Jacobson added, “We had to rewrite the dialogue scenes that he had left and there’s no question that shooting those scenes is painful without him. We might give a line of Plutarch’s to Haymitch or Effie, but only in circumstances that we are able to do that without undermining the intent of the scene.”

Here you go ‘Hunger Games’ fans! First look at Finnick Odair!

Here we have our first look at the 65th Hunger Games, District 4 victor Finnick Odair! This character poster is the latest character to be released by Lionsgate. (Go here for yesterday’s huge reveal!)

In his poster, Finnick wears combat boots, wide-legged pants and a gauzy shirt with a deep V-neck, which gives us a sneak peek at his bare chest. Not bad, but I’m interested to see his outfit for the Tribute Parade, which is described in the book as “a golden net that’s strategically knotted at his groin so that he can’t technically be called naked, but he’s about as close as you can get.” Hope the studio sprung for a trainer to help get Claflin ready for his big reveal.

So excited!

Here she is!! Jennifer Lawrence on the set of ‘Catching Fire’ in Maui!

Well now we know why Jennifer Lawrence is in Maui! The actress is in Hawaii to film ‘Catching Fire’ the follow-up to ‘The Hunger Games’.

The Aloha state may be traditionally known for its warm climes, but The Hunger Games 2shooting there looked decidedly chilly, with Jennifer Lawrence in particular looking less than comfortable as she surfed in the Hawaiian seas as the cameras rolled.

Filming for the sequel to the hugely successful Hunger Games – $686.5 million taken worldwide – took place on Monday, with the film being given the title The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. However, 22 year-old Lawrence looked like she’d relish the chance of, if not a slight burning, then certainly something to warm her up as she shivered in a wetsuit, paired with knee pads and some black Adidas high-top sneakers. One particular shot, caught by the Daily Mail, saw her have to dive off a jetty into the sea. Alongside her on set was the 20 year-old actor Josh Hutcherson, who plays Peeta Mellark in the film. Joining the pair was fellow star Liam Hemsworth, who was also snapped braving the waters.

There wasn’t too much combat stuff going on, though there were a couple of images of Lawrence holding a crossbow, and we’re pretty sure her character was planning on using it to do more than clean someone’s ears out. The film is expected to come out in 2013.

Can’t wait for the movie!!

I’ve also included some pictures below of Josh Henderson on set!

‘The Hunger Games’ Director Talks About Filming ‘Catching Fire’

The Hunger Gameshas only been open for a few days, but the team is already prepping for the sequel ‘Catching Fire‘.  Director Gary Ross dished on his plans for the next installment:

Warning: mild spoilers if you haven’t read the books!!

“The arena in the second book is tropical and the arena in [the first] book is forests, so that in and of itself will make for a different wardrobe on the part of the crew.

“In terms of the cinematic differences in the way I might shoot the movie, I shot this in a very specific way that’s very different than most franchises are shot, obviously, and that had a lot to do with the urgency of what’s going on and Katniss’ point of view,” he continued. “I have some ideas about how to do ‘Catching Fire’ slightly differently, but I don’t want to share them yet. Not because I’m being evasive, but just because they’re not fully baked. But yes, I think it will look and feel slightly different from the first.”

The next movie will start filming in Fall and is due out in November of 2013.  That feels TOO far away, doesn’t it?  But that’s the price we pay if you want a GOOD film, right?!
