Hugh Jackman has decided against passing along parenting advice to new mom Nicole Kidman.
The X-Men star, a father of two, confesses he didn’t like receiving advice when he was a new parent, so he spared friend and Australia co-star Kidman and her husband Keith Urban any tips when they welcomed daughter Sunday Rose earlier this month.
He says, “I didn’t give any advice because anyone who’s actually had kids knows there’s nothing more annoying than all the advice you get on how to do it. You know you’re going to stuff it up in some way or other. Actually the best bit of advice was from the guy who delivered the baby, when my first son Oscar was born. He came in and the birth happened about two minutes later and as he was leaving he said, ‘Congratulations, don’t rock the baby.’ Cut to two weeks later, the baby won’t sleep and we’re rocking it. That’s the only advice I give. Don’t rock the baby because you end up spending your life doing it. But I didn’t give that to Keith or Nicole.”
Kidman also has two adopted children, Connor and Isabella, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.

Hugh Jackman is protective over his former costar Scarlett Johansson – but says she has a good man in his X-Men colleague Ryan Reynolds.
“Ryan Reynolds is one of the funniest guys I’ve ever met,” Wolverine’s alter ego, currently promoting his new movie Deception, tells Entertainment Tonight Canada.
Adds Jackman: “And umm, we had a really good chat about his girlfriend, because I’m very fond of Scarlett, and both my wife [Deborra-Lee Furness] and I are very [proprietary] about Scarlett, [and] he got a big thumbs up from me.”
The Australian, 39, advised his 23-year-old costar, who appeared with him in 2006’s Scoop and The Prestige, “So Scarlett, if you’re watching, big thumbs up!”
Asked if he were bestowing his blessing upon the couple, Jackman replied, “I’m giving my blessing, exactly.” Fearful he was sounding old fashioned, however, Jackman further enthused about Reynolds, 31, “He’s phenomenal.”

Hugh Jackman has branded new mother Cate Blanchett a “superwoman” for committing herself to a two-day Australian conference – just six days after giving birth to her third child.
The X-Men star was in attendance at Saturday’s Australia 2020 summit – where he encouraged native Australian actors working abroad to return home for projects – and was stunned to see the 38-year-old arrive at Parliament House in Canberra with her newborn son in tow. The actress, who welcomed Ignatius Martin Upton last week, handed the child to her playwright husband Andrew Upton, and proceeded to take her place among 1,000 fellow delegates to help moderate a debate during the arts segment of the talkfest.
Jackman, 39, says, “Cate Blanchett is superwoman. She is amazing on every level. I think she is flawless as a person.”
