“I am in perfect health,” he tells E! exclusively. “I’m in very good shape and feeling very good.”

So what’s all this fuss about his well-being?

Fox News reported earlier today that Hef “looked far from his normally alert and healthy self” during a supposed brief appearance at Saturday’s Kandykaneland Masquerade Ball at the Playboy Mansion with new girlfriends Crystal Harris and 19-year-old twins Karissa and Kristina Shannon.

Hef said he was at the party the entire night and kept going till about 4:30 in the morning. “And then I was up in the morning, played backgammon during the afternoon with a buddy before we watched the final episode of The Girls Next Door.”

As for the claim that the split from his Girls Next Door Holly, Kendra and Bridget took a toll on him, the Energizer Bunny Hefner said he’s doing better than fine.

“If there was any kind of emotional or physical impact from that, it was back in last summer and fall,” he said. “But the recovery, thanks to the twins and to Crystal, has been really remarkable.”

“I think the breakup is partially the reason,” says the 30-year-old, who has traded her heavy foundation, fake lashes and lip gloss for just a hint of blush and eyeliner. “The truth is, I barely wear lip gloss anymore because I’m always making out with my boyfriend, so it comes off in two-and-a-half seconds,” she says, adding with a laugh, “Apparently, I wasn’t making out with Hef as much.”

And Holly’s new man, Criss, 40 — star of the Las Vegas show Believe — is all for her updated look. “He doesn’t like me in a lot of makeup,” says Holly, “and I appreciate that.”

Holly Madison may no longer be decking the halls of the Playboy Mansion, but, despite wishful thinking, she’s not pining away for Hugh Hefner or plotting her revenge on her rap sheet-bearing replacements.

At least, not openly.

“I wanted everyone to know, because I don’t like to pretend,” she told E! News of her decision earlier this month to come clean about her breakup with Hef. “You know, I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I want everyone to know what I’m thinking.”

The erstwhile Girl Next Door also put the kibosh on reports that her ticking biological clock played a part in her split from the octogenarian, saying that while she doesn’t hide the fact that she wants kids “someday,” right now she’s just “way too busy.”

She’s apparently applying the same rationale to her love life, as well.

While the rumor mill has been consistently buzzing about a possible romance between Madison and unlikely celeb chick magnet Criss Angel, the Playmate is maintaining that the only relationship she has with the Las Vegas illusionist is a platonic one.

“Oh my god, we’re friends,” she said at Monday night’s Bowling for Boobies breast-cancer fundraiser.

“I like him, but we are too busy. We’re not, like, dating or anything.”

Nor are they likely to anytime soon.

“I’m not looking for a guy right now—I’m in love with myself. Everybody should be in love with themselves.”

And while she’s clear about the fact that she and Hef are no longer an item, she’s not one to kiss—or not kiss, as the case may be—and tell.

“I’m doing really good. I want to let Hef talk about [the breakup] for the next couple weeks…I’m being quiet, but I’m doing really good.”

To prove just how good she’s doing, Madison is getting ready to take her permanent leave of the Playboy Mansion, particularly with the next generation of girlfriends nipping at her heels.

“Well, I do have my own place,” she said. “So I’ve got a place to go, but, you know, I’m kind of, like, in limbo right now.”

She doesn’t, however, begrudge her replacements, the arrest-prone Karissa and Kristina Shannon, despite the fact that their recently uncovered checkered past came as quite a surprise.

“Well, I worked with them on their Playmate pictorial and obviously I need to get better at doing my background checks, right?

“You know, we ask on the application, ‘Have you ever been arrested or convicted?’ and they said no, so I took that at face value, but if Hef doesn’t care, than who am I to care, right?”

Sounds like the girl next door has matured into a woman.

“I’m in a more positive place right now,” she said, “and I would like to see them do well.”

Girls Next Door star Holly Madison has confirmed that she and Hugh Hefner are officially over.

When a TMZ cameraman recently asked her if she can get him into an upcoming Halloween bash at the Playboy mansion, she replied: “I have no pull anymore. Hef and I aren’t together.”

Still, she said she, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt are “still filming stuff together. We’re having fun.”

Of their upcoming sixth season, she added, “It’s going to be even better. We love season five, but I think every season gets better.”

Madison’s new comments come days after Hef denied reports of a split.

“It’s all rumors without question. We have just completed our fifth season, and we’re all still together and have just signed on to a sixth season, which we start filming in the new year,” Hefner said at last week’s FOX REALLY Awards Show taping in Hollywood, according to Fox News. “There may be some transitions to the relationships though, we’ll see.”

Last month, Hefner confirmed to Usmagazine.com that he and Madison’s relationship was “in transition.”

“She is still my girlfriend,” he said. “Now will that last? I don’t think anything lasts forever.

“I love her very much, but you know, she wants very much to get married and have children. That isn’t very much in the cards for me,” he adds. “So there has to be a certain reality there.”

Rumors have been circulating that The Girls Next Door star Kendra Wilkinson is getting a spinoff at E! because she’s moving out of the Playboy Mansion, but Hugh Hefner has a surprise for you.

While he won’t confirm anything about Wilkinson, Hefner says, “I think all three girls are likely to get spinoffs. I think they will be interconnected to the main show, and we will all appear on both.”

For now, however, Hef, Wilkinson and his two other girlfriends, Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt, have other things to think about, like the Oct. 5 premiere of season five of GND.

Even Hefner is amazed at how successful the show has become. “It’s amazing. We’re about to launch season five,” he said, adding, “We thought it would be a one-season wonder.”

How wrong they were.

Season-five highlights include Hefner’s birthday celebration in Las Vegas, a trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, a visit with legendary Playmate Barbi Benton in Aspen and a wedding in Las Vegas.

No, it’s not Hefner saying “I do” to one of the girls, as some bloggers have speculated. And while we’re on the subject of rumors, Hefner also shoots down the recent one about Madison supposedly leaving him for Mindfreak illusionist Criss Angel.

But being the businessman that he is, Hefner really doesn’t mind what seems like around-the-clock gossip. “All the rumors are only going to give us more ratings,” he said.

He does promise that if anything changes between him and any of the girls “all of that will be on the show, because this show, unlike most, really is a reality show. It deals with our lives and wherever that takes us.”

But it doesn’t sound like it’s taking him to the chapel anytime soon.

Hefner said with a laugh, “I’m still working through the last one.”

“I really don’t know where this stuff comes from,” Kevin Burns, executive producer of The Girls Next Door, tells E! News exclusively. “Holly has not moved out and has no plans to do so. She is very much busy supervising and editing Playmate shoots at Playboy Studios West. She’s also been working with my company on several new ideas for Playboy-themed TV shows and specials.”

He continued, “Holly’s trips to Vegas have been ‘mini-vacations’ to hang out with friends and to scout for the magazine. She’s just having a good time.”

Crisis averted: The end of GND as one of TV’s best guilty pleasures is not nigh, and more importantly, the Playboy empire of high-class hoochie will not want for a queen. Whew.

For her part, Holly posted on her MySpace earlier this week to debunk simultaneous wedding and breakup rumors. About the rumored end of the Holly Era at the Mansion, she wrote, “Hef and I are not breaking up…We are PIC (partners in crime, LOL, Kendra [Wilkinson] came up with that one). We are wrapping up season five of The Girls Next Door and are looking forward to filming a season six.”

The departure of the second and third most serious girlfriends would have been one thing, but Holly was supposed to be different. Classy, cunning Holly loved her “Puffin,” and he loved her. They shared a bed, Holly announced that she was shaped by God to be Hef’s perfect woman, and Hef always said fondly that he sure liked her, too.

Now, it’s true, Holly wants to settle down, get married and have lots of Playbabies, and that’s the kind of thing that just makes Hef avoid eye contact, but still, Holly and Hef seem to have a pretty happy arrangement.

Since this is all cleared up, we can go back to watching and believing in Holly and Hef’s fairy-tale enchantment with each other.

It may be foolish to hope against hope that they’re going to live happily ever after, but we’re going to do it anyway.
