Hayden Panettiere has spoken out in defense of Paris Hilton’s airheaded party girl image, insisting the heiress is actually a “genius”.
Panettiere, who has been a close friend of Hilton’s for several years, says the 27-year-old socialite is actually more level-headed than the dumb “character” she projects to the media.
She explains, “She’s a nice girl and a lot brighter than people give her credit (for) but no one sees her like that because she plays this character all the time. She’s actually a marketing genius.”

Hayden Panettiere is set to move out of her parents’ home, but will she move in with her boyfriend, Heroes co-star Milo Ventimiglia?
Hayden, 18, went house-hunting with her mom, Lesley, on February 29. “She looked really excited and was looking at very nice places,” says a witness. An insider tells In Touch that the actress is looking for some independence, although Milo, 30, wants to stay with her.
The couple, who have been together for about three months, love spending time with each other. “He is so smitten with her,” says the insider. At a party to celebrate Hayden being the newest face of Candie’s at Hyde in LA on February 21, Milo took every poster ad of Hayden home with him. “He wanted to put them on his walls at home,” a witness at the event said.
“Hayden and her mom looked at several condos, mostly in the Beverly Hills area,” according to a witness. “Hayden really wants her own place,” says an insider.
Hayden Panettiere has spoken for the first time about her split from boyfriend Stephen Coletti, revealing she just wanted some time alone. The 18-year-old beauty ended her one-year relationship with the Laguna Beach star last September – insisting the pair had parted on amicable terms.
And Panettiere, who is now dating her Heroes co-star Milo Ventimiglia, admits she desperately needed her own space.
She tells magazine Seventeen, “I just knew I wanted to breathe. I wanted to be single at the time. It just hit me like a ton of bricks – this is the time I need to be with myself.”
And she admits she’s not an easy girlfriend: “It takes such a secure person to be with someone like me; it takes so much confidence, it takes so much trust.”
