Gwyneth Paltrow’s new shorter haircut was traumatic

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow’s new shorter haircut was an emotional transition for the star, because it involved cutting off hair she has had since before her father died.

The actress began growing her hair before film maker Bruce Paltrow died in 2002, and she has since married Coldplay rocker Chris Martin and given birth to their two children.

Paltrow tells the July issue of Harper’s Bazaar, “I was very, very attached to my hair. I grew it when I was pregnant. I still had hair from when my father was alive. I made it like a talisman. And then I was ready to let go of it, and so I chopped it off and … aaah!”

Gwyneth Paltrow: More babies on the way?

Gwyneth Paltrow

Talk about baby buzz! Gwyneth Paltrow is open to adding to her brood – any way possible.

“I may force myself to do it one more time because the result is so worth it,” the Oscar winner says in the July issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “My mother loved each [pregnancy] to bits; she felt alive and beautiful. I wanted to throw up all the time.”

The 35-year-old mother to Apple, 4, and Moses, 2, adds that she’s “very open” to adoption, factoring in the expansion of her family with husband Chris Martin.

“I do feel we’re so fortunate, and we kind of owe it to humanity,” she says. “We have a lot of love to give and a lot of resources.”

Back on the big screen with the hit Iron Man after her four-year hiatus, Paltrow also talks about her desire to give more as an artist. “It’s something within you, something that burns,” she explains. “It’s not a hobby, it’s a need.”

Gwyneth Paltrow works out three times a day

Gwyneth Paltrow

Want Gwyneth Paltrow’s body?

Brace yourself.

“I think she works out three hours a day – which is one of the keys to success,” chef Mario Batali told Usmagazine.com at the opening of the Uncle Ben’s Kids Café in Carson, California, on Wednesday

“If we all did that, we’d all look like Gwyneth Paltrow,” he said. “Or at least closer.”

See Us’ Weight Winners of the Year.

He added that the Iron Man actress, 35, “loves to eat … and, you know, she never puts on a pound!”

Paltrow and Batali are teaming up for their upcoming PBS documentary Spain …On the Road Again, airing this fall.

“We had an amazing time — we saw everything!” he said.

“Predominately,” he added, the show’s “about understanding Spain from the perspective of a casual traveler. It’s very much like a road trip, we just drove into a place, figured out what was going on and tried to get a hold of it.”

Gwyneth Paltrow feared Hollywood had forgotten her

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow was desperate to return to acting after taking a break to give birth – because she feared Hollywood had forgotten about her.

The 35-year-old star took a hiatus while she was pregnant with two-year-old Moses, so she could give birth and be a full-time mom to the tot and his four-year-old sister Apple.

But Paltrow admits she spent the whole time worrying about other actresses taking her place.

When she was offered roles in new movies Iron Man and Two Lovers, Paltrow leapt at the chance to reclaim her status as one of Tinseltown’s top leading ladies.

She explains, “I really did not know if there would be a place for me. Jodie Foster was right, especially if you are a woman and especially if you are not 25. Hollywood is pretty cut-throat, and everybody has a short memory. There is always someone who is younger or hotter or prettier.”

Joaquin Phoenix Skips Cannes Due to Stomach Flu

Joaquin Phoenix was forced to call in sick to the Cannes Film Festival.

The actor, 33, missed the Monday premiere of his movie Two Lovers after doctors told him he couldn’t fly because of his illness.

“Joaquin has the stomach flu,” his rep, Susan Patricola, tells PEOPLE. “He had his dog boarded, his tux in hand but couldn’t even sit on the plane. He did go to the hospital to get hydrated, hoping he could get on the plane but he didn’t stay there. He was so sick – and so sorry he couldn’t be there with everyone.”

Phoenix was due to promote his drama Two Lovers at the festival. The film’s director, James Gray, told reporters Monday that Phoenix wanted to make the trip to France, but he advised him to go to the doctor.

“He wanted to come,” Gray told reporters. “I said ‘No, go to the doctor and see what he says.’ Sadly he followed my advice and they put him in the hospital.”

Gray praised Phoenix’s performance, calling him “fantastic” opposite Gwyneth Paltrow.

Gwyneth Paltrow says that taking time off to be mother to daughter Apple, now 4, and son Moses, 2, made her feel forgotten by Hollywood.

In Cannes to promote Two Lovers, in which she costars with Joaquin Phoenix, the Shakespeare in Love Oscar winner, 35, expanded upon a comment made by Jodie Foster, who noted that Hollywood has a short memory.

“I really did not know if there would be a place for me,” said Paltrow. “Jodie Foster was right, especially if you are a woman and especially if you are not 25. Hollywood is pretty cutthroat, and everybody has a short memory. There is always someone who is younger or hotter or prettier.”

In terms of her own career, “I was very realistic of that fact there would not be room for me,” said Paltrow. “I definitely knew I had lost my place.”

She considers Two Lovers, a romantic drama set in Brooklyn, a shot in the vocational arm.

“It has given me a lifeline, because I had taken a long time off work,” said Paltrow. “Going from being a mother at home for a long time, which was the greatest time in my life, but also feel like an artist again … that was a gift for me.”
