Russell Crowe is set to play Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick Dr. Watson in Guy Ritchie’s new film.
The Gladiators star is lined up to star opposite Robert Downey Jr. as the legendary fictional sleuth’s confidante and storyteller in the forthcoming flick.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, “Russell wants the part, Guy wants Russell. All they’ve got left to do is dot the i’s and cross the t’s.”

Guy Ritchie has branded rumors he and wife Madonna are set to renew their wedding vows as “rubbish” – because he spent too much money on her 50th birthday celebrations.
The couple were rumored to be planning to remarry in a Kabbalah ceremony later this month.
But the moviemaker is adamant they won’t be heading down the aisle for a second time – because their lavish 2000 marriage in the Scottish Highlands was all they needed.
Ritchie says, “Rubbish (rumors of renewing wedding vows). I think once was enough. And I’ve just paid out on a big party for her birthday. I bought her two original Hermes drawings of equestrian thingies (sic) – but trust me, the party was infinitely more expensive than the paintings.”

Guy Ritchie believes his wife Madonna’s brother penned a tell-all book on the singer because he was desperate for the attention.
The filmmaker insists he isn’t bothered by Christopher Ciccone’s book Life With My Sister Madonna, which made a series of allegations about the Material Girl’s private life.
But Snatch director Ritchie denies Ciccone’s claim he is homophobic – because Madonna wouldn’t stand for it.
Ritchie says, “I don’t make anything of the book. The poor chap wrote it out of desperation. I don’t think it’d be intelligent to comment on that. I can’t give too much equity in what the chap’s gonna write in that book. But you’d be hard pushed to be a homophobe and marry Madonna.”

Whether their marriage is on the rocks or not, there’s at least one thing Madonna and Guy Richie don’t seem to be able to agree on.
Kind of a big one too!
Guy just told a British newspaper that he thinks it’s a “mistake” and not “intelligent” to follow Kabbalah.
When the Observer asked the Snatch director if he would call himself a follower of the sect that his wife has dedicated herself to, he said: “No, I wouldn’t, no.
“I like to think I’m an objective guy. I have sympathies with many philosophies, and I think it’d be a mistake to be a follower of anything, really.”
And even though Guy’s taken part in a few Kabbalah ceremonies, he added, “I just think any intelligent human being has to remain, if you can, objective.”
Maybe A-Rod should take some advice from Guy before he takes any more religious guidance from the Material Girl!

Are Madonna and Guy Ritchie adopting another child from Malawi? “Possibly,” says Guy in a new interview with the U.K.’s The Observer.
The ‘RocknRolla’ director gamely responded after he was hit with the burning question by his interviewer in a “quickfire” back-and-forth, asking, “After adopting David two years ago, are you and Madonna trying to adopt another child from Malawi, named Mercy?”
Reps for the star couple have denied that they are in the adoption process with Malawi officials. The busy Madonna just kicked off her “Sticky and Sweet” world tour in Cardiff, Wales, and Guy is gearing up for a new Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr. for Warner Bros.
In addition to little David Banda, Madonna and Guy currently have a son, Rocco, 8, and Madonna has a daughter, Lourdes, 11, from a previous relationship.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie made a last-ditch attempt to save their troubled marriage by renewing their wedding vows at a private kabbalah ceremony in London, I can report.
Madonna, who was 50 last weekend, is understood to have flown her kabbalah teacher over from Los Angeles to conduct the proceedings.
‘It was very intimate and both Guy and Madonna made vows to each other and pledged to try to make their marriage strong again,’ says my source.
‘The ceremony lasted about an hour. They turned up at the kabbalah center in their gym clothes and changed into white robes. Everyone at the center hopes that they will get through their recent rough patch.’
Madonna is about to start a world tour, while Guy is planning his 40th birthday party on September 10 at the Punch Bowl pub in Mayfair, which he owns with his wife.
