Patrick Dempsey May Stick It Out On Grey’s Anatomy.

Back in May of last year, Patrick Dempsey dropped the bombshell that he wouldn’t be returning to ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘, but it seems he’s having a change of heart.

The biggest point for me in negotiations is getting time off to come race, so if I don’t miss races, I’ll probably stay on Grey’s Anatomy.  The show’s doing really well. We were number one on Thursday night, so it continues to get a lot of legs. ABC hasn’t had a show this year that has kind of stepped up. We’re certainly talking about the future.

Even though Patrick says his heart is in racing, he still enjoys ‘Grey’s':

But I also enjoy the show. It keeps me in town so I can be around my family. So we’ll see. Hopefully we can work out a deal.”

This sounds like that typical “we’re in money negotiations” talk, doesn’t it?  Hopefully they can come to an agreement because fans will not be too happy to see McDreamy leave anytime soon!

Patrick Dempsey is leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’!!

In the new issue of  Italian Vanity Fair, Patrick Dempsey has confirmed that the upcoming 8th season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ will be his last!  “It’s gonna be my last,” he told the mag. “I do not know what’s going to happen to the other characters, but for me it’s done.”

Dempsey added that the idea of checking out of Seattle Grace after seven years is “bittersweet because it’s been great and a great part of my life. But I can’t see me doing it anymore.”

One person who we’re pretty sure won’t be caught off guard by this news: Shonda Rhimes. The Grey’s creator told TVLine earlier this month that she was approaching next season as if it was the last – not just for Dempsey but his fellow original cast members Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, Sandra Oh and Justin Chambers. “It might be the last hurrah for a lot of them; you never know,” she said. “I really don’t know and I don’t presume to know. Everybody has an individual choice to make and I get that…. All the originals are in play.”

Of course, this begs the provocative question: What happens if Dempsey leaves but Pompeo stays? Perhaps a clue can be found in this next quote from Rhimes. “I feel like Meredith and Derek are meant to be together forever, and we’re going to make sure that in the end they end up together, one would hope — unless one of them dies or something.”

I will be really bummed if he leaves. The show is already pretty bad, but if you start taking away the show’s major character’s then it’s really going to go downhill quickly! The characters they’ve brought on in the last couple seasons are ok, but they’re definitely no Patrick Dempsey.

I think he should stay – let’s start a petition.

Katherine Heigl to return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?

Not really, but I got your attention.

I can’t believe I’m saying this – but maybe Katherine needs to return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. I wasn’t a huge fan of Izzie on the show, but lets face it – she needs something different (her movie career isn’t exactly flourishing) and ‘Grey’s’ is getting a bit stale.

Who’s with me? Bring Izzie back?

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ news – and a premiere date!

In Grey’s Anatomy news, creator Shonda Rhimes tells TV Guide that for the first time, there are no plans to add additional members to the cast for season 7. “We’re full up” she said.

Over the last couple years, the show has added four regulars: Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), Teddy (Kim Raver), April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams). More from TV Guide:

Audiences will get to know Jackson and April much better once they move in with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) this season. Pompeo says Meredith and April, whose crush on Derek (Patrick Dempsey) proved nearly fatal, will bond this season — which may help audiences change their feelings toward April.

Shonda Rhimes: Grey’s Anatomy docs all grown up in new season

“Meredith will accept April in order to get the audience to accept her,” says Pompeo, who hopes Mer will be there to guide the new docs through their surgical residency.

“I feel like Meredith and Cristina [Sandra Oh] are much further along in their careers than April and Jackson,” she continues. “The audience hasn’t seen them go through as much training as they’ve seen us go through. I would love there to be a teaching element as opposed to them being our contemporaries.”

Grey’s Anatomy returns for its seventh season Thursday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c on ABC.

I don’t know about you – but the finale of season 6 was probably the best yet. It was soooo good! Two doctors were left dead, some were left in limbo. It was just so good! Can’t wait to see what happens next! I’m glad the show had turned around – I almost gave up here a couple seasons ago. Course I’m all talk, I’ll probably watch it until the bitter end whether it’s good or not.

First look at Demi Lovato on Grey’s Anatomy!

She’s been practically clawing her eyes out to meet the cast of her favorite show, and now Demi Lovato’s got her chance. When the 17-year-old Sonny With a Chance star arrived on the Grey’s Anatomy set to shoot her May 13 guest appearance, “The first two actors I met were Justin Chambers and Jessica Capshaw, and I was like, ‘There’s Karev and Arizona!’ Then I met Patrick Dempsey.” On a tour of the hospital set, she picked up a patient’s chart to pretend she was making rounds. But Demi’s not playing a new med student; she’ll be a frightened patient named Hayley, who might suffer from schizophrenia (see the claw marks in this exclusive first-look photo).

The episode will also showcase just how good a doctor Karev has become. “Alex has definitely worked on his bedside manner,” says Justin, whose character will continue to get a workout between the sheets with Lexie (Chyler Leigh), now that he’s divorcing Izzie (Katherine Heigl).

Katherine Heigl: January 21st episode was Izzy’s last, she won’t be back.

As she departs Grey’s Anatomy after six rocky seasons, the actress admits to this week’s Entertainment Weekly that she made mistakes – and knows that her image has taken a hit as a result. As EW first reported, Heigl is leaving her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens in much the same way she spent her six-year stint on the show: amid controversy. After sitting out more than half of this season, both to make a movie and to bond with the special-needs child she and husband Josh Kelly just adopted, Heigl confirms that she will not be returning to the show and that the January 21st episode was her last one. “I am done,” she says of where she stands with Grey’s Anatomy. “We just finalized our agreement. Everyone had been working really hard to find an amicable and gracious way of letting go and moving on. It’s sad, but it’s what I wanted.”

Portion of the Q&A, running in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly:

EW: How did it come to this?

Heigl: My life changed so dramatically in the last six years. I started a family, and it changed everything for me. It changed my desire to work full-time.

EW: The plan was for you to return to the set on March 1 and stick around through the end of the season. But you didn’t show up on March 1. Why?

Heigl: I went on my family leave and spent three months in Utah and just got to be a mom, and it changed my whole perspective….That was really the turning point for me. So before I was due back, I spoke again to Shonda about wanting to leave. Then I waited at home until I was given the formal okay that I was off the show. The rumors that I refused to return were totally untrue. [In response, ABC issued the following statement: “By mutual agreement, Katherine Heigl has ended her successful run as Dr. Isobel Stevens. The studio wishes her well. Everyone at Grey’s Anatomy is now focused on delivering a shocking season finale and a great show for seasons to come.”]

EW: Would you describe it as an amicable parting?

Heigl: Yeah, I think so. I think it was a little bit shocking for everybody, and a little bit like, “Can’t we find a way to work it out?” And I really wanted to, but at the same time I just felt like I couldn’t sacrifice my relationship with my child. Naleigh and I will always be a little bit complicated. I really had to work on bonding with her because I was obsessed with her, but she could really do without me. [Laughs] It was really hard because she loved Josh so much but she just kind of tolerated me. And I want this child to know that she will forever have me in her corner and I don’t want to disappoint her. And even though I know I’m disappointing the fans, and I know I’m disappointing the writers and my fellow cast members and the crew, I just had to make a choice. I hope I made the right one….It sucks. You wish you could have it all exactly the way you want it. But that’s not life….I had to try to find the courage to move on. And I am sad. And I’m scared. But I felt it was the right thing to do; we just didn’t quite know how to do it appropriately, gracefully, and respectfully to the audience. And I think we all felt it wasn’t respectful to the audience to bring [Izzie] back again and then have her [leave] again. We did it twice this season. It starts to feel a little manipulative.

EW: In 2008, you announced that you decided not to enter yourself in the Emmy race because, you said “I did not feel I was given the material this season to warrant a nomination.” Any regrets about making that statement?

Heigl: Yes. [Laughs]

EW: Why?

Heigl: You know…At the time I thought I was doing the right thing. And I wanted to be clear that I wasn’t snubbing the Emmys. The night I won [in 2007] was the highlight of my career. I just was afraid that if I said, “No comment,” it was going to come off like I couldn’t be bothered to [enter the race]. But really, I could have more gracefully said that without going into a private work matter. It was between me and the writers. I ambushed them, and it wasn’t very nice or fair.

EW: That statement, and the one you made on Letterman, combined with the fact that you’re leaving the show before your contract is up, have fostered a perception of you as an ungrateful diva. Are you aware that this is how some people view you?

Heigl: Yes. The ungrateful thing bothers me the most. And that is my fault. I allowed myself to be perceived that way because I was being whiny and I was griping and because I made these snarky comments. So much about living life, to me, is about humility and gratitude. And I’ve tried very hard to have those qualities and be that person and I’m just so disappointed in myself that I allowed it to slip. Of course, of course I’m grateful. How can I not be grateful? I have been afforded such a wonderful life. And to have come this far and to have this kind of success and the freedom and the choices it allows me…The fact that I could even have Naleigh in my life – adoption isn’t cheap – is something to be so unbelievably grateful for. I am disappointed in myself for allowing that perception to exist….There’s nothing more gross than [the idea of] somebody in my position being ungrateful….And I hope that in the coming years I can change people’s minds about that. The six years [I spent on Grey’s] were important years, and I don’t want them to be demeaned. And that’s another reason why I’m so annoyed with myself. I let myself demean something that was actually very beautiful and very important. Like any job, there are ups and downs. But I don’t want to demean what that experience was. I don’t want it to become about this negativity that I’ve spewed.”

EW: There was one time when you were praised for being outspoken, and that’s when you publicly derided Isaiah Washington for using a gay slur at the Golden Globes in 2007…anything you’d like to say about that whole incident?

Heigl: I was recently talking to T.R. [Knight] about this and I said, “I hope I didn’t embarrass you and draw more attention to something that you just wanted to go away.” [Fighting back tears] And he said I could never have embarrassed him and that he was so grateful because no one had ever stood up for him that way before. So that is a proud moment for me [and] I don’t regret it. And I’m just so grateful that my friend doesn’t regret it….I think Isaiah just made a mistake. I think it was a [big] one. But I don’t think he’s evil or horrible or a bad person. I had some great times on set with Isaiah. I don’t wish him ill.

EW: Are you curious about what they’re going to do with Izzie?

Heigl: I am curious. I don’t know what they have in store. But I’d love to come back in and out at some point.

EW: Do you think that’s possible?

Heigl: I don’t know. I’d like to. I’ll give Shonda a call. “Hey, do you need any ideas? I got one!”
