I’m sure most of us can name dozens of things we’re thankful for during the holiday season, but pop singer George Michael has recently expressed his thankfulness for living following his serious battle with pneumonia last month.
Speaking with reporters outside of his London home, George says that the illness nearly killed him, saying that it was the “worst month of my life.”
“[Doctors spent] three weeks basically keeping me alive … It was by far, the worst month of my life.”
George choked up, insinuating he had been in a coma during his time in the ICU — “I spent the last ten days since I woke up literally thanking people for saving my life.”
GM was forced to cancel his European tour over the illness — but promises to play several concerts to make up for it … including a private concert just for the docs who saved his life.
The troubled ‘Faith’ singer was released from jail in England this morning, after serving 27 days of an eight-week sentence for crashing his car into a phone booth while under the influence of marijuana.
The 47-year-old star pleaded guilty on Sept. 14 to driving under the influence and possession of cannabis following a July 4 collision between his Range Rover and a Snappy Snaps photo store in north London.
District Judge John Perkins told the singer he had taken a “dangerous and unpredictable mix” of prescription drugs and marijuana.
This isn’t George’s first run-in with the law. In 1998 he was caught engaging in “lewd acts” in a public restroom. In 2007, his license was suspended after hitting 3 parked cars and fleeing the scene. He was arrested in 2008 for possession after he was caught in a bathroom with illegal drugs.
In his latest run-in with the law, George Michael has been sentenced to 8 weeks in a London jail after crashing his car while under the influence of marijuana.
47-year-old Michael was arrested on July 4 after he crashed his Range Rover into a shop. He was banned last month from driving at all for six months after he pled guilty to driving while under the influence.
On July 4th, George Michael was driving home from the Gay Pride Parade in London when he was arrested after driving his car into the front of a shop. Today, he’s been charged with drug possession and driving “while unfit”, either due to drugs or alcohol.
George Michael must appear in court later this month to answer drug possession charges.
The ‘Faith’ singer was charged today with drug possession and driving while unfit through drink or drugs, stemming from an incident in the early hours of July 4 when he drove his car into the front of a London shop.
The 47-year-old star – whose real name is Georgios Panayiotou – was freed on bail to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court later this month.
I hope he gets his stuff together already. He needs to straighten up and fly right!
Singer George Michael has hit another roadblock. He was arrested on Sunday for being unfit to drive in London, England.
Police were called after Michael’s car crashed into a building. Police found Michael, 47, behind the wheel, and he was then taken into a police station.
He was released on bail, and ordered to appear before the court in August.
In 2007 he was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs after he was found passed out behind the wheel of his car in Hyde park. He plead guilty and wasn’t allowed to drive for two years.
And then last year, he was arrested AGAIN on suspicion of driving under the influence, but he was never charged. He said he was “stone cold sober” during the accident and didn’t want his fans or family to be “worried by what they are reading.”
With all that money, George Michael certainly could afford a driver. He’s lucky he hasn’t killed anyone yet!
Singer George Michael apologized to his fans Sunday for “screwing up again.”
Though Michael didn’t talk about an arrest for drug possession — a story that was reported by Britain’s Sunday newspapers and Britain’s Press Association — it appeared the former Wham! frontman was referring to reports that he had been cautioned by police.
“I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I’ll sort myself out,” he said in a statement distributed by his publicists. Michael added: “And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them.”
Michael, whose hits include “Careless Whisper,” ”Faith” and “Father Figure,” has had several run-ins with the law, on charges ranging from drug possession to lewd conduct.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said only that a 45-year-old man had been arrested and cautioned for possession of drugs, and that there would be no further action taken.
George Michael was arrested Friday for allegedly possessing crack cocaine and marijuana, BBC News reports.
The singer, 45, was busted in a bathroom in London’s Hampstead Heath area after an attendant tipped police.
He was released with a warning, termed a “caution” in the U.K.
“We can confirm a 45-year-old man was arrested in the Hampstead Heath area on the 19th of September on the suspicion of possessing drugs,” a Scotland Yard spokesman said. “He was taken to a North London police station where he received a caution and was released with no further action. The caution was for the possession of Class A and Class C drugs, cocaine and cannabis.”
It is unclear why he has been given a relatively mild punishment for the possession of class A drugs.
In a statement Michael said: “I want to apologise to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I’ll sort myself out. And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them.”
It isn’t Michael’s first drug bust.
He was found slumped over the wheel of his car in London in 2006 (he later admitted driving while unfit due to drugs).
He opened up about his drug problems last year, telling BBC radio that he was aware he smoked too much marijuana and was trying to fight his addiction.
“In a strange way I’ve spent the last 15 to 20 years trying to derail my own career, but it never seems to suffer,” he said. “I suffer like crazy. I’ve suffered bereavements and public humiliations, but my career always seems to right itself like a plastic duck in the bath.”
