Jason Patric has signed on to star in FX’s comic adaptation of Powers.
Patric, who stole the show in the recent movie The Losers, will star as a homicide detective devoted solely to cases that involve people with superpowers. The pilot was penned by Charles H. Eglee (The Shield). Though the project is still in the pilot stage, you rarely see this sort of network enthusiasm for shows that don’t get a series order: “We’ve been asked repeatedly why it has taken so long to bring our series adaptation of Powers to fruition,” said FX chief John Landgraf. “It is for the same reason we cast Jason Patric in this role; we are aiming for something extraordinary. The lead role of Detective Christian Walker is an extremely layered character and we needed Jason, who was so brilliant in films like Narc and Rush, to bring him fully to life. He is pitch perfect for this role and we are honored that he chose FX for his first foray into episodic television.”
I love Jason – can’t wait to see this! To be honest, I haven’t watched a show on FX since Nip/Tuck ended. I need another reason to watch the network!
And yes, I know I should be watching ‘Justified’. I hear it’s awesome, I just never really tried….

American Pie‘s Chris Klein has booked a multi-episode arc on FX’s forthcoming Elijah Wood-fronted comedy Wilfred, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively.
The series, based on the hit Australian sitcom of the same name, revolves around a guy (Wood), a girl (Californication‘s Fiona Gublemann), and a human/dog hybrid named Wilfred (Jason Gann, reprising his role from the Aussie original).
Klein, who recently guest-starred on Fox’s The Good Guys, will play a love interest for Gublemann’s character.

Best news I’ve heard all day! Damages was HANDS DOWN my favorite new show this year, and I am SO STOKED to hear it’s been renewed! Not only for one season, but two!!
FX has placed a 26-episode, two-season order for its drama series Damages, which just wrapped its critically-acclaimed first season on Oct. 23. Star Glenn Close will return for season 2, as will co-stars Rose Byrne and Tate Donovan.
Renewal was not a sure thing, as FX chief John Landgraf has said he was disappointed in the show’s ratings. First-run episodes averaged 1.1 million viewers with adults 18-49, although the weekly multi-telecast cume (taking into account viewership for new episode telecasts taking place on additional days throughout the week) brought that number up to 2.5 million.
Despite mediocre ratings, however, critics and fans lauded the way the show unraveled its complex story. The season finale also spent a good amount of screen time setting up a potential season 2.
With Damages on board for another two seasons, FX has a total of six concurrent drama series (The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, Dirt, and The Riches), the most ever for a cable network in that genre. Shooting on season 2 is scheduled to begin early next year, depending on whether writers are still on strike.
I hope they bring Ted Danson back as well! I know in the finale his character was – well – in limbo, but hopefully he can pull through! He was awesome!
