Emma Watson received an expensive birthday present on her 18th birthday - she gains access to her huge $20 million fortune.
The British star has been given complete reign over the money she has earned through appearing in all five of the Harry Potter films.
Although Watson, who turned 18 on Monday, is in control of her millions for the first time, the star’s money management skills are under intense scrutiny by a team of financial advisors, according to Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper.
In a deal with England’s royal bank Coutts, who also look after her co-star Daniel Radcliffe’s fortune, the actress is required to make low-risk, high-interest investments and attend courses on how to be a responsible millionaire.
The star, who is currently working on the franchise’s latest outing Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, is paid $5 million (GBP2.5 million) for her role as the schoolgirl wizard.

She may be a few years off hanging up her broomstick, but life outside Hogwarts is already shaping up nicely for Emma Watson. The Harry Potter star, who was catapulted to fame when she took the role of Hermione at just 9, is starring in a new BBC production, Ballet Shoes.
In the feature-length film, set in 1930s London, Emma plays the part of orphaned Pauline Fossil, who is adopted by an eccentric explorer, played by Richard Griffiths. While the young actress says she couldn’t pass up the “amazing project,” she has revealed she occasionally craves a normal teenage life away from the spotlight. She told the Daily Telegraph: “I’m not the girl they get the number 19 bus into town with to grab a coffee.”
I just get mobbed. It’s an uncomfortable experience for everyone. Sometimes I miss the fact that I have never really been a teenager because I have been Hermione for such a long time.” Emma has already amassed a 20 million dollar fortune, but she is applying to Cambridge University as a backstop “in case acting doesn’t work out.” Still, the 17-year-old is grateful for her early success: “I just tell myself I won the lottery.”
