Emma Thompson Apparently Does NOT Like The Spider Man Franchises

OH MY GOD this blows the Chad Kroeger/Avril Lavigne split out of the water in HILARITY!

So Emma Thompson was protesting outside of the Shell headquarters in London yesterday to protest Shell’s new lease for Arctic drilling. She was using props to “deface” part of the Shell building with some cute polar bear footprints. At the same time, Emma also has a lengthy new interview with Vulture come out around the same time – go here to read. She chats about feminism, aging, Hollywood and HAS SOME STRONG OPINIONS ABOUT SPIDER MAN. Here’s a snippet:

The glut of superhero movies: “I loved the original Superman with Chris Reeve, because there was a real tongue-in-cheek-ness to it. After a while, you do get a tiny bit cynical about it. The fact that I know they’re going to win out in the end has now slightly interfered with my continuing to go to those movies. If I see yet another Spider-Man, I’m going to have to actually hang myself. I can’t do it anymore! They’re all marvelous, but how many times can you make this franchise, for crying out loud?… I’m up for Wonder Woman, totally.”

Feminism: “I’ve been a card-carrying, radical feminist since I was 19. Most women who I would want to listen to wouldn’t have any problem at all with the word feminist. It’s bizarre. Any woman who says they’re not a feminist is basically saying that they don’t believe in equal rights for women. Any woman who says, ‘I hate my bum, I hate my body,’ is essentially expressing a kind of misogyny. All women who come up with that need to think very carefully about what it is they’re saying. Including me!”

The on-screen romantic age differences: “The age thing is insane. It was ever thus. I remember saying years and years ago, when I was 35, that they’d have to exhume somebody to play my leading man … Nothing’s changed in that regard. If anything, it’s got worse….I remember somebody saying to me that I was too old for Hugh Grant, who’s like a year younger than me, in Sense and Sensibility. I said, ‘Do you want to go take a flying leap?’”

Donald Trump is a disaster: “Let’s face it, the Republicans have chosen Donald Trump to run — can you take anything they say seriously, on any level? I suppose you can, in the sense that many of them have power, and that’s something you guys are really going to have to address, because it’s a disaster. I think it’s terrifying.”

OH my god I love Emma Thompson soooooo much.  I know she’d hate this, but I think SHE should be the next SPIDER MAN! AHHHHH! (mind blown?)

Emma Thompson finally opens up about when Helena Bonham Carter slept with her husband, Kenneth Branagh.

Emma Thompson is finally opening up about the affair that ended her six-year marriage to Kenneth Branagh. Emma and Kenneth were married in 1989, but announced their separation in 1995 after he had an affair with his co-star, Helena Bonham Carter. The two met while filming Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein in 1994.

Thomspon, 54, spoke about the incident in the UK’s Sunday Times, saying the breakup is “all blood under the bridge.”

“You can’t hold on to anything like that. It’s pointless,” she said. “I haven’t got the energy for it. Helena and I made our peace years and years ago.”

Branagh, now 52, and Carter, now 47, begain their affair in 1994 during filming, and then had a public relationship after his divorce from Thompson. They dated until 1999.

Emma has moved on, though. She married actor Greg Wise in 2003, and now says she can see how her ex-husband fell for Helena in the first place.

“Oh we are [alike],” the “Saving Mr. Banks” star said of her and the fellow actress, who is now married to director Tim Burton. “Being slightly mad and a bit fashion-challenged. Perhaps that’s why Ken loved us both. She’s a wonderful woman, Helena.”

She also went on to say that the whole cheating experience made gave her fuel for her role in 2003’s “Love Actually.” “I’ve had so much bloody practice at crying in a bedroom,” Thompson said, adding, “then having to go out and be cheerful, gathering up the pieces of my heart and putting them in a drawer.”

As for Helena, she moved on with Tim Burton, and they have two children together. In 2002, Helena opened up about the affair. “Yes. I’m a habitual, serial home breaker, apparently,” she said. “It gets frustrating because I know the story and the truth of it. It is very hurtful and, frankly, some of the things I have been called are quite libelous. But it’s part of the price of being in the public eye.”

Okay then!

Kate Winslet helps form “Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League”.

Let’s hear it for natural beauty!

Kate Winslet has spoken out about embracing her curvy figure and is now taking a stance on ageism in Hollywood and the pressure actresses have to go under the knife.

Winslet, 35, spoke with London’s The Telegraph stating the she and fellow British Oscar-winners Emma Thompson and Rachel Weisz have formed the “British Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League.”

“I will never give in,” she said. “It goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up and what I consider to be natural beauty.”

While the women’s resolve not to go under the knife is real, their league might be more of a way to speak out against ageism than an active organization.

“I am an actress, I don’t want to freeze the expression of my face,” Winslet said.

Thompson, 52, agreed. “I’m not fiddling about with myself,” she exclaimed. “We’re in this awful youth-driven thing now where everybody needs to look 30 at 60.”

Newly-married Weisz, 41, said that people “who look too perfect don’t look sexy or particularly beautiful.”

Yeah! I am so glad a that these ladies are taking a stand on this subject. I am tired of seeing actresses who are too skinny, with pumped up lips, and faces that don’t move.
