Here’s What Julie Andrews Thinks Of Emily Blunt Playing Mary Poppins

68th Annual Cannes Film Festival - "Sicario" Photocall

Passing the torch!

Julie Andrews has given her blessing for Emily Blunt to play the iconic Mary Poppins in the remake of the 1964 Disney classic film, and (as I’d imagine) Blunt felt…relief, but also more pressure to be GOOD.

Blunt revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall met up with Andrews in the Hamptons where he spilled the beans on casting for the Poppins reboot. And that Emily’s glad things went OKAY:

“Rob said he was in the Hamptons, and he saw [Andrews], and he said, ‘It’s top secret, but Emily Blunt’s paying Mary Poppins,’” Blunt said. “And she went, ‘Oh, wonderful!’”

“I felt like I wanted to cry,” she continued. “It was lovely to get her stamp of approval. That took the edge off it, for sure.”

The Devil Wears Prada actress explained why she’s so nervous to take on the musical role. “I feel a little more trepidation with this [character] because she’s so emblematic of people’s nostalgia,” she said. “It’s such an important character in people’s childhood.”

However, the Girl on the Train star has a different take on Poppins than Andrews’ interpretation of the character, first created by author P.L. Travers in a series of eight books. “We’re delving into the books a lot more, which is a different version of the character, I’ll say that much,” she said. “She’s a little meaner, yeah.”

Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda will star alongside Blunt as a lamplighter, Jack, and Meryl Streep is also in talks to join the remake, which is scheduled to hit theaters in December 2018.

Are you excited about seeing Emily as Mary Poppins? Emily’s a good pick, in my opinion, and I think she’ll do justice to the role.

Charlize Theron Threw Emily Blunt A Baby shower

Screen Shot 2016-05-31 at 2.17.34 PM

It’s pretty nice to have FAMOUS FRIENDS!

Charlize Theron threw a baby shower at her Hollywood Hills home for Emily Blunt on Sunday, and it sounds very private and very sweet.

Blunt, who’s expecting baby no. 2 with husband John Krasinski, wore a printed sundress and looked very happy as she celebrated with her The Huntsman: Winter’s War costar and friends. Friend and actress A.J. Johnson was there, and posted this sweet pic on Instagram, captioning it, “An afternoon of love, laughs and friendship celebrating a special piece of my [heart] #EmilyBlunt with hostess with the mostess @charlizeafrica.”

AWWW. We love y’all, too!

No word on the baby’s gender, and there’s evidence to suggest a boy or girl. First, Blunt was presented with a cake that was frosted pale-blue and topped with yellow ducks (maybe boy?) but then an eyewitness said  “Everything at the party was done in shades of light pink. There were pink balloons and light-pink floral centerpieces. It was very low-key.”

What do YOU think the gender of the baby is?! Weigh in below!

Emily Blunt On John Krasinski: “Our Chemistry Is Not Up For Public Consumption.”

Emily Blunt is on the new issue of C Magazine, and in case you forgot, she’s promoting two things: her new film The Huntsman and her pregnancy (yep, she’s preggers again!). Here are some highlights:

Her second pregnancy: “The first pregnancy is the most self-indulgent thing in the world because you get massages and prenatal yoga and hypnotherapy CDs. During this one I forget that I’m even pregnant. I’m hoisting a 2-year-old around!”

Working motherhood: “It’s quite a juggle with children, especially young children who are now able to vocalize, ‘please don’t go.’ I don’t want to feel torn,” she said.

She’d love to work with John Krasinski, just not as his on-screen love interest: “I think we would prefer it to be something where we’re not married or boyfriend and girlfriend. Our chemistry is not up for public consumption. We’d like to do a play. That would be cool.”

Her role in The Huntsman: “You’d be surprised by how much I enjoyed [playing an evil queen] and how easy it was to be this person, which is worrying. She’s not just this rampaging villain. She’s actually someone who, as delusional as she is, is thinking she’s doing the right thing – and that was exciting to me. [It was] a huge dream of mine to have a massive queen-off with her [Charlize Theron].”

Working on The Girl on the Train while pregnant: “It was actually more physical than I realized, which worried me a little, but I wasn’t telling anyone until a little later on. I told a couple of people like [co-star] Justin Theroux pretty early because he and I were doing some of the physical stuff together. He’s my friend, and I think he knew anyway – you know how friends just have a feeling.”

A Queen-off! That phrase kind of makes me want to see the Huntsman, even though it’s just a rip off of Asian cinema. That being said, I’m way more interested in seeing Emily and John in like, some kind of non-romantic roles together. What would that even look like?!

Emily Blunt Is Pregnant!

More Celebs at The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards in LA

She’s expecting…again!

Though she’s currently filming The Girl on the Train, we just found out Emily Blunt is pregnant with her second child!

The actress was spotted wearing an oversized coat on set in NYC last week, while husband Jon Krasinski was off promoting his new movie, The Hollars, at the Sundance Film Festival. And so the news leaks to us subtle-y, through glorious US Weekly.

Blunt and the Office alum tied the knot in Italy in 2010 after two years of dating, and welcomed daughter Hazel, now 23 months, in February 2014.

Girl or boy? Unsure as of yet. We DO know this kid is gonna be tall and CUUUUTE. Congrats, you two!
