Ellen Pompeo has defended her decision to dress down for her 2007 wedding.

The actress wore a black Yves Saint Laurent dress and boots as she married record producer Christopher Ivery last year. And the star admits she snubbed the traditional white gown and veil because she always wears stunning dresses for work.

She tells Allure magazine, “I get to dress up all the time. I completely understand women wanting a wedding, because most people don’t get to dress up in gorgeous dresses and have their hair and make-up done. I, however, am fortunate enough that I get to put on beautiful dresses and make-up and jewels all the time.”

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo has confessed she once disliked medical dramas.

The actress, 38, – who plays Meredith Grey in the popular TV show – was surprised it became a hit.

She tells Allure magazine, “I never watched one episode of ER. When I did the pilot, I thought, ‘I can’t stand medical shows. This will never get on.’”

Though the legendary Chateau Marmont Hotel is rarely referred to as a family-friendly place, it was the perfect setting for Hollywood stylist Andrea Lieberman’s Marie Antoinette-themed baby shower. Nicole Richie, Ellen Pompeo and Gwen Stefani were among the glam guests who gathered inside the hotel’s Bungalow 1 for afternoon tea, hosted by Margaret Maldonado and jeweler Mouawad. “Andrea is like a New York version of me, but way cooler and more talented,” said California girl Stefani (in Diane von Furstenberg). “The fact that we’re pregnant at the same time is such a gift.”

The legendary singer, who has a two-year-old adopted son David from the African country, threw the New York bash for her Raising Malawi Foundation, United Nations children’s organization UNICEF and to celebrate the opening of a new Gucci store.

Madonna, who dismissed rumors the event was raising money for Kabbalah, said: “I am grateful that Gucci has underwritten this event, that’s all that matters to me – their generosity. There’s always controversy surrounding anything that involves change.

“I want to put Raising Malawi on the map. I want credibility as a philanthropic organization. I want to inspire people. I don’t want them to just write me a check – I want them to give me a piece of their heart.”

Ellen Pompeo had haute couture on her mind when she hit Paris Fashion Week – but she couldn’t help gushing about wedded bliss with Chris Ivery.

“We’re blessed,” the 38-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star told People of her two-month union (sealed in November with a quiet ceremony at New York’s City Hall).

So does she think her TV alter ego, Dr. Meredith Grey, will ever find similar happiness with Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd? “Who can say?” she sighed at Italian designer Giorgio Armani’s Monday show. “We’re not working because of the writers’ strike.”

Her music-producer husband piped in on cue: “I’m the real McDreamy!”
