Ellen DeGeneres argues with John McCain over gay marriage

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres has argued with U.S. presidential candidate John McCain after the politician voiced his opposition to gay marriage.

The Arizona senator and Republican candidate appeared on the The Ellen DeGeneres show on Thursday and told the host he believes in “the unique status of marriage between and man and a woman”.

But he says same-sex couples should be allowed to enter into legal agreements for insurance and other purposes.

Last week, U.S. officials ruled gay marriages legal in California, and those who wed during a spate of same-sex nuptials at San Francisco’s City Hall in 2004 will be recognized as married couples.

Following the announcement, DeGeneres announced on her show her engagement to longtime girlfriend Portia de Rossi.

She told McCain, “We are all the same people, all of us. You’re no different than I am. Our love is the same.

“When someone says, ‘You can have a contract, and you’ll still have insurance, and you’ll get all that,’ it sounds to me like saying, ‘Well, you can sit there, you just can’t sit there.’

“It feels like we are not, you know, we aren’t owed the same things and the same wording.”

McCain replied: “We just have a disagreement. And I, along with many, many others, wish you every happiness.”

Simon Cowell on his nastiness: I hated watching myself

Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell didn’t seem so nasty when he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday.

After viewing a reel of his harshest critiques from this season’s American Idol — among his greatest hits were, “You sounded like Dolly Parton on helium” and “It was a bit like ordering a hamburger and only getting a bun”, the sometimes nasty judge told Ellen DeGeneres, “That was like slightly, harshly edited there,” but conceded, “I must admit watching myself back I hated myself.”

Although DeGeneres said she usually agrees with him, she feels Cowell can go “too far.” To his own defense, he said, “This is just the way the music business is. When you’re performing in front of 25 to 30 million people and you’re not making the effort to make your self into a star I don’t think you’re doing yourself any favors so that’s why I said it.”

But the two TV personalities did agree on one thing: rocker David Cook will take the Idol crown. “I’m gonna call it for David Cook,” Cowell said.

A conman cashes in on fake Ellen DeGeneres wedding registry

Ellen DeGeneres & Portia De Rossi

A con artist has cashed in on Ellen DeGeneres’ wedding news by setting up a hoax gift registry at top store Crate & Barrel.

DeGeneres revealed her plans to wed partner Portia De Rossi during her daytime show on Thursday – a day after samesex marriages were declared legal in California.

The comic joked that the couple’s gift list would be with Crate & Barrel and one hoaxer chose to use the line to deceive gullible fans.

She says, “I was joking when I released a statement saying we registered at Crate & Barrel.

“Some scam artist tried to take advantage of that and register and said the gifts are going to be sent to me and some people started already buying gifts… and sending (them to) this person.”

DeGeneres insists she and De Rossi do not want wedding gifts.

Ellen DeGeneres hints at marriage plans

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres has hinted she will wed longtime love Portia De Rossi after California’s gay marriage laws were relaxed on Thursday.

The state lifted a ban on gay marriage at California Supreme Court – and DeGeneres hinted she could be one of the first up the aisle.

She says, “I’m thrilled that the California supreme court overturned the ban on gay marriage. I can’t wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday we’ll look back on this and not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote.”

Meanwhile, sources on the set of the Ellen DeGeneres Show claim the star announced her plans to marry during filming. According to TMZ.com, Madonna recorded a message for the couple.

Ellen DeGeneres launches her own organic dog food

Ellen DeGeneres

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is adding pet food entrepreneur to her name – she’s launched a range of natural dogs’ dinners.

The pooch-loving star has teamed up with U.S. manufacturers Halo, a company known for its organic pet food varieties, for the new venture. She tells Parade magazine, “Ours (range) is all human grade. It’s all natural. And yes, you can eat it.

“People love their animals so much so that they put little clothes on them and necklaces and booties and things like that. And if you love your animal, then you should feed them something that’s not dangerous for them. There’s a lot of poisonous stuff that they’re putting in a lot of that food, those by-products.”

Brad Womack Says He Would Star on the Bachelor Again: “I Believe in the Fairy Tale Romance”

ellen_blog_18.jpg

Despite recently taking heat for not choosing either finalist on ABC’s The Bachelor, Brad Womack told Ellen DeGeneres Friday that he would still do the show all over again.

“I believe in the fairy tale romance,” he explained. “I am so disappointed that it didn’t happen to me.

“I haven’t even thought about dating, he added. “I’m keeping to myself. I think if I asked a woman out, she might throw a drink in my face right now.”

Indeed. DeGeneres called him a jerk earlier in the week because she thought he had led both finalists on. Womack, 35, famously didn’t choose either woman, DeAnna Pappas or Jenni Croft.

But she apologized in person Friday, saying, “I shouldn’t have done that.”

Why was she so miffed?

“We hear you say, ‘I have such strong feelings … and I don’t know how I’m going to let one go,’” DeGeneres told him. “You get all the way to the end… and then there are no feelings. Bye Bye. That made me mad.”

Countered Womack: “First of all, I wouldn’t say that were no feelings. In fact, what I want people to understand is, I know no one is buying this, that it was just as difficult for me.

“I knew I was going to put myself in the hot seat by telling both ladies goodbye … I thought I had made a decision full of integrity by not giving a false promise….”

Still DeGeneres complained that he had even flown finalist DeAnna Pappas’ father in, “and you had said earlier that if you were going to ask someone to marry them, you would need permission from the father first.”

But Womack claimed, “I never one time asked for DeAnna’s father to be flown out. Never one single time.”

DeGeneres pressed on, mentioning to him about how he told DeAnna that “Saturday was going to be a good day,” implying he was going to choose her.

“I don’t know why I said that, maybe I got caught up in the moment,” Womack admitted. “If I could take anything back from that show … it’s that one statement … I don’t know if got up in the moment. I was trying to comfort her.”

Ellen Degeneres sells her Montecito home for $20 million!

cb_ellensellshouse.jpg

Ellen Degeneres couldn’t sell her Montecito home, so in the beginning of October she famously went on her talk show and website to hawk the place.

In mid-November, one of her viewers up in San Francisco saw the show and ended up buying the place for $20 million! Not bad, considering Ellen bought it the year before for only $16 million…
