After a blissfully romantic New Year’s Day wedding — Eddie Murphy and his bride, producer Tracey Edmonds, have split. According to a pal close to the couple, they got into a big blowout two days ago. “It was ugly,” says the friend. “They never officially moved in together and apparently never had a civil ceremony.” The insider adds that Eddie seemed very controlling and insisted Tracey take his name. But Tracey refused: She wanted to keep the name Edmonds because her sons have that surname. The couple exchanged vows on January 1, during an intimate ceremony on a private French Polynesian island just off the coast of Bora Bora. The insider adds that Eddie personally paid for everyone to be flown to Tahiti for their special day.

Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds have called it quits just two weeks after their intimate wedding, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.
“After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further,” Murphy and Edmonds tell PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. “While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends.”
The couple exchanged vows in a sunset ceremony on New Year’s Day on a private island off Bora Bora in French Polynesia. But, according to a source, the honeymoon got off to a rocky start.
“Eddie started yelling at Tracey in front of people,” says one of Edmonds’s wedding guests. “He did it on a few occasions and it was very embarrassing.”
Since the couple’s nuptials took place in a foreign country, the wedding was purely ceremonial – not legal. Murphy, 46, and Edmonds, 40, originally said they planned to have a legal ceremony in the United States, but that is now off.
Murphy and Edmonds started dating in the fall of 2006 and got engaged last July.

In a sunset ceremony on the beach Tuesday, Edmonds walked barefoot down the aisle to Gladys Knight’s “Makings of You.” The bride wore a custom-designed form-fitting dress by stylist and designer Sugia Nazel and Jill Baracci, designer and owner of Baracci boutique.
Murphy wore a cream suit and vest with an off-white handkerchief.
Among the guests were best man Johnny Gill, maid of honor Nicole Avant, matron of honor Julie Lev, as well as Edmonds’s parents Jacqueline and George McQuarn, her brother Michael, Murphy’s mother Lillian Lynch and his brother Vernon.
Edmonds, 40, gave her bridesmaids gold and diamond earrings from XIV Karats in Beverly Hills, and Murphy, 46, gave his groomsmen D.Atlantis watches.
The wedding was designed by event designer Colin Cowie, who created a gazebo on the beach made out of 6,000 shells for the ceremony. After the ceremony, guests celebrated at a private dinner and after-party, where DJ Darrin Ebron from Los Angeles kept the guests dancing.
The wedding cake was by Sam Godfrey of Perfect Endings in Napa, CA, and featured four layers in whites and cream with handmade sugar cymbidium and dendrobium orchids.
Edmonds and Murphy started dating last fall and were engaged in July. Congratulations to the happy couple!
In a statement released by his rep on Friday, the actor says he “acknowledges paternity of the child Angel, and has paid child support to Ms. Brown as well as covering the expenses of her pregnancy.” The statement continues: “Mr. Murphy and Ms. Brown dated very briefly and never made any plans of ANY sort,” although Brown told Essence.com that “this was a completely planned pregnancy.”
Meanwhile Mel B. was spotted in Miami this weekend soaking it up!
Honestly, it’s hard to know who to believe here. Melanie has claimed that Eddie hasn’t given her a lick of child support, and we publicly saw Eddie deny paternity until there was a DNA test, but if Eddie’s statements about offering child support are true then that adds one more thing to the dramatic saga! Former Spice girl Mel B has named her new daughter Angel Iris Murphy Brown.
The child, the singer’s second, was born in Los Angeles at the beginning of April but now faces a battle over the identity of her real father.
Mel B, real name Melanie Brown, insists her daughter is the result of a short relationship with actor Eddie Murphy and has named the baby after him.
But Murphy has publicly questioned the idea and has demanded a DNA test to determine whether he is the father.
Why would she do this? Why would she name the baby after a man that doesn’t want anything to do with the baby.
