Dancing With the Stars judge Bruno Tonioli has even harsher words for Kate Gosselin.

“Kate is pretty dreadful,” he said Wednesday on Lopez Tonight. “She’s crap — but in a nice way. She is entertaining. People like disaster movies. We’ve got our own disaster movie there everyday. 2012 is nothing compared to the catastrophe she produces.”

But he praised Gosselin, 35, for being “a tough cookie. She gets it in the face, she comes back and she tries to get better.”

Sadly, he added, “it doesn’t really work.”

(He isn’t hard on all the contestants, however. Though he initially thought Pamela Anderson was “going to be terrible,” he said she “actually comes out and delivers a performance full of content and she works very, very hard, and she is good at it.”)

Gosselin, who has survived two DWTS rounds so far despite disastrous dance routines, says in Thursday’s USA Today that she doesn’t think the judges have been fair. “But it’s their option to say what they’re going to say,” she says.

The mother of eight says she is extra appreciative of her fans. “The fact that people really support me and want the kids and I to do well … is flattering,” she says. “I never understood the importance of fans until we struggled and went through tough times.”

“She acts like a major celebrity,” a production source tells Us Weekly. It’s a joke with the cast, like, ‘Oh, look out — the bodyguard is watching!’”

She also hasn’t bothered getting to know any of the other contestants either. Says an insider, “When she is getting her hair done, she is on her BlackBerry the whole time… [she] is not making herself likable.”

Still, pro dancer Derek Hough defends Gosselin.

“If anyone is allowed to be stressed, it’s Kate,” he tells Us. “She is so out of her element. She can act any way she wants, in my book.”

Shannen Doherty was the first to be voted off Dancing With The Stars, in a surprising elimination show Tuesday.

“Dancing isn’t really my thing,” the 90210 alumna said when she was booted from the competition along with her partner Mark Ballas.

Shannen said she did the show for her dad, who recently suffered a stroke. He sat in the front row during her DWTS performances. “To see my dad’s face light up the way that it did and how proud he was of me just filled me with this kind of amazing emotion of thankfulness. I call that a success.”

Shockingly, astronaut Buzz Aldrin was safe from elimination despite his low score from the judges. So was Kate Gosselin after her lackluster performance. And in a surprise let down, Pamela Anderson was in the bottom two.

The Dancing With the Stars injury curse strikes again!

On Monday, singer Mya described a weekend trip to an L.A.-area hospital to get stitches after suffering a deep cut from broken glass.

“Went 2 the hospital late last night 2 get stitches . Deep cut from glass. Only caught 2hours of sleep but feel great. Must be adrenaline,” she Twittered. “Nothing to worry about. Just an ugly slice on my finger-not the first time I’ve had stitches. I’ll be just fine. Thanks 4the concern.”

Mya, who is competing with Dmitry Chaplin on the ABC series, is expected to recover in time for tonight’s premiere. When the female celeb dancers take to the floor tomorrow, Mya and Chaplin will perform the Viennese waltz.

This time last year, Kim Kardashian suffered a similar injury after cutting her foot on a glass table prior to her Dancing debut. She was well enough to compete and danced for three weeks before her elimination with partner Mark Ballas.

Welcome to today’s episode of Splitting With the Stars.

E! just learned that the dance-happy duo of Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have uncoupled and called off their long-pending nuptials.

“I am confirming that they did indeed break up,” Karina’s rep tells me. No word yet from Team Max.

Word of the split comes just a month after they debuted on Broadway in Burn the Floor. In retrospect we may have missed signs of trouble back on the eve of that show’s debut, when they told us their busy schedule, including the upcoming season of DWTS, would delay their vow swapping until next summer.

“We don’t plan,” Maks said. “We’re [rehearsing] 14 hours a day.”

“The only thing that we’ve decided on is next year in June,” Karina added. “We were supposed to pick the place, but we’ve never actually had the time to go further.”

“We don’t feel like we’re messing out on the wedding dress fittings,” Karina continued (perhaps somewhat ominously in retrospect). “As long as we’re together, tying the knot is a plus. It’s something extra.”

Or not.
