Drew Barrymore announced on Monday’s Oprah Winfrey Show that she is donating $1 million to the World Food Programme to help feed children in Africa.
“I have seen with my own eyes what a difference a simple cup of nutritious porridge can make in a child’s life,” the actress said. “It helps them learn, stay healthy and sets them on track for a bright future.”
Barrymore, 33, has worked with the charity since 2005 and became an Ambassador Against Hunger last year. She’s taken two trips to Kenya to see the organization’s work first hand.
“We have a dream … to feed another 10 million hungry school children in Africa by Thanksgiving Day,” said WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran, who also appeared on Oprah.

Drew Barrymore has called on Hollywood’s troubled stars to “pull it together” because she hates watching young celebrities self-destruct in public. Think she’s talking about anyone we know?
Drew has had two stints in rehab when she was 13 and 14 and claims stars such as Britney Spears have to actually want to conquer their demons – before they can get the help they need.
She said, “I think I had some mechanism in my head that said, ‘If you don’t pull it together, no one else will.’ That’s coming from a person who had to try it all….and who still loves a good time.”
Drew insists that she never let her career focus slip during her wild years. She adds, “I do believe in ‘work hard, play hard’, but ‘work hard’ always comes first, and it did even when I was wild and young.”

The legendary singer, who has a two-year-old adopted son David from the African country, threw the New York bash for her Raising Malawi Foundation, United Nations children’s organization UNICEF and to celebrate the opening of a new Gucci store.
Madonna, who dismissed rumors the event was raising money for Kabbalah, said: “I am grateful that Gucci has underwritten this event, that’s all that matters to me – their generosity. There’s always controversy surrounding anything that involves change.
“I want to put Raising Malawi on the map. I want credibility as a philanthropic organization. I want to inspire people. I don’t want them to just write me a check – I want them to give me a piece of their heart.”

I don’t know why, but Drew Barrymore and Justin Long (the MAC guy) make an odd looking couple. Okay – he’s just odd looking. Drew’s fine.
Anyway, here they are at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights – Hollywood to the Heartland’ held at the Egyptian Theatre.
