It looks as if a movie adaptation of the massively popular TV series Friends could soon be hitting cinema screens.
According to the Daily Mail, the cast feel compelled to reprise their roles after the recent success of the Sex and the City movie, despite David Schwimmer previously claiming he would rather not play Ross again.
Schwimmer will be joined by Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow to begin filming “within the next 18 months”, says an insider.
“Jennifer, Courteney and the rest of the cast are keen to reprise their roles, under the right circumstances,” said a source.
“The box office success of Sex And The City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right.”
However, it has also been suggested that Jennifer Aniston was initially not as keen as other cast members to return, but the source noted the “huge payday” may have changed her mind.

Four years after the Friends said goodbye, David Schwimmer has kept himself busy. His current project is directing the comedy Run Fat Boy Run, about a man afraid to commit, starring British comedian Simon Pegg, Hank Azaria and British beauty Thandie Newton. OK! caught up with David and his girlfriend, a photographer named Zoe, at the New York screening of the movie.
What are your best memories of Friends?
Aw, you know. Just working with the writers and the terrific acting ensemble. Every day was just great! It was the best job we ever had!
Why did you choose to direct this project?
I’ve been reading scripts for about four or five months and this was just hands down the funniest script I read. I actually thought it was a mistake that it came into my lap, you know? I just — as soon as I put down the script, I called my manager and said, “I have to get this movie.” It took two years to get it and a year and a half to make it, so four years later, it’s finally here and I’m just really excited.
So, do you think this movie could be a message to slackers everywhere to get their act together?
I think it’s a message to anyone! To all of us! I mean, the idea is that if you see a better version of yourself, you can work hard and realize it — make it happen. The movie has a positive message or I wouldn’t have been attracted to it.
What’s next for you?
I’m co-writing something right now — a dramatic thriller to direct. And I’ve just acted in a film — I’m playing Kate Beckinsdale’s husband in a political thriller called Nothing but the Truth. So, I’m just trying to — directing took a year and a half – so I’m now trying to get back into the acting game as well, so — keep it fresh.

David Schwimmer is joining the cast of the political thriller “Nothing but the Truth,” being directed by Rod Lurie.
Schwimmer joins a cast that includes Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon, Vera Farmiga, Edie Falco and Alan Alda.
Written by Lurie, the story centers on female newspaper reporter (Beckinsale) who outs a CIA agent and is imprisoned for refusing to reveal her source.
Schwimmer will play Beckinsale’s husband, who initially supports his wife’s decision not to name names but as time goes by begins to resent her for choosing a principle over her family.
Schwimmer is making his directorial debut with “Run Fat Boy, Run,” a comedy starring Simon Pegg and Thandie Newton. Picturehouse will premiere the movie next month at the Toronto International Film Festival before releasing the movie in October.
