David Duchovny’s sexual indiscretion has once again come into question after new reports suggest his alleged internet porn habit was used as a cover for cheating on his wife.

The 48-year-old played down rumours he was unfaithful when he reportedly came clean over his internet porn habit after checking into rehab for sex addiction last week.

New reports from The National Enquirer allege the actor went into rehab because his wife, actress Tea Leoni, “finally caught him (cheating)”, prompting her to offer him an ultimatum to seek treatment or face a divorce.

A source tells the tabloid: “At first, Duchovny tried to lie his way out of trouble, but eventually was overwhelmed with guilt and confessed.”

And editors at Us Weekly have fuelled the allegations, adding reports that the actor “has a history of indiscretions”, including one alleged tryst with an extra on his TV show Californication.

Duchovny is currently checked into a 35-day course at the Meadows rehab center in Wickenburg, Arizona, where he has been visited by Leoni. She will miss the premiere of her forthcoming film Ghost Town at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada this week to be by the actor’s side.

Duchovny’s attorney, Larry Stein, has declined to address the reports, adding: “This is a private matter.”

David Duchovny cheated on his wife for years before finally entering a rehab clinic for sex addiction according to a US magazine.

The X Files star allegedly agreed to seek treatment after heartbroken Tea Leoni discovered his indiscretions and threatened to divorce him.

‘He said Tea gave him an ultimatum: Get treatment or our marriage is over,’ a source is quoted as telling the National Enquirer.

The actor has been married to the Deep Impact actress for 11 years, and the couple have a daughter, Madelaine West, nine, and a six-year-old son, Kyd.

According to the source, Duchovny has admitted that he is compulsively driven to be unfaithful and finds it impossible to turn down the legions of women who offer themselves to him.

Leoni is said to have grown suspicious of her husband’s behavior in recent months and after questioning him on a number of occasions, the 48-year-old finally admitted that he had been cheating on her.

Duchovny checked into The Meadows facility in Arizona last week and is currently completing a 35 day course. His wife has been to visit him at the centre several times.

‘Tea drove to The Meadows every day during the four days she was in town,’ the source is quoting as saying.

Although they are still very much in love, the pair’s marriage is though to be hanging by a thread.

In a statement, before his admittance the actor said: ‘I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction. I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family.’

At the height of Duchovny’s stardom in the mid 1990s, it was widely reported he had suffered from sex addiction after cheating on a string of girlfriends.

However, the actor fiercely denied the claims, saying the idea was ‘hurtful’.

Although Duchovny has insisted he has never been unfaithful to Miss Leoni, he recently admitted he had often questioned whether fidelity was possible.

At the beginning of his career, Duchovny starred in the erotic TV series, Red Shoe Diaries, but it was his role as Special Agent Fox Mulder in The X-Files that made him a household name.

The show, which became one of the most popular series of the Nineties, ran for eight years before drawing to a close in 2001.

The film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, was released in cinemas in July but was panned by critics and delivered poor box office figures.

Ironically the actor plays a sex- obsessed womaniser in raunchy TV series Californication.

“X Files” star David Duchovny’s announcement that was he was in rehab for sex addiction sparked a lot of rumors. One of them was that he’d been caught having an affair with his tennis instructor (a woman) and that he was undergoing rehab to save his marriage.

Alas, it isn’t so, says a close friend. Duchovny did not check in because of an extramarital fling. That much the friend is certain of. Even more so: Duchovny’s problem has been longstanding. His wife, Tea Leoni, was aware of it for some time. It had just reached a point where it had to be treated.

I have inferred from my conversation with Duchovny’s friend that this has something to do with an addiction to pornography, probably on the internet. It’s the sex equivalent of a gambling addiction, where the person is just hopelessly trapped in chat rooms.

Interestingly: didn’t we already hear a similar tale this summer with Christie Brinkley’s ex, Peter Cook? He testified in his divorce trial that he sat naked in front of his children’s computers and pleasured himself online with strangers. Cook didn’t seek treatment, however. He boasted about his activities in court, and then went sailing.

Of course, the strange thing here is that Duchovny’s Showtime series, “Californication,” is almost a celebration of sex addiction. His character, Hank Moody, is a male slut who can’t stop himself from destroying his own life.

“Californication” has certainly had its share of woes this year. The 42-year-old husband of Duchovny’s elegant (and pregnant) co-star, Natascha McElhone, dropped dead of heart attack in May.

By the way, I’m told that David issued that press statement about his rehab because the tabloids were about to issue their own story. What happened: A fellow patient “dropped a dime” on David to make some extra coin. Nice confidentiality!

Duchovny is not having the greatest summer. His “X Files: I Want to Believe” has been a bust, with just $20 million in the till after a month in release. Waiting ten years for a sequel has proved to be a mistake. The audience simply moved on.

When Duchovny is done with the rehab, I’m also told that he and Tea and their kids will complete their move to Manhattan’s Upper East Side from Hollywood. They will be very welcome here, as Tea is much in demand work-wise. Duchovny will have more “Californication” and plenty of offers. New York doesn’t solve all your problems, but it’s a much more realistic place to live than Los Angeles.

The truth is here, not out there.

Tea Leoni has cancelled all her commitments at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival so she can support her husband David Duchovny as he battles sex addiction.

The actor checked himself into rehab on Thursday after struggling to control his sexual urges.

There’s no suggestion he has cheated on his wife of 11 years.

And Leoni is supporting her husband by scaling down all of her planned promotional activity, including scrapping her appearance at next month’s event in Canada.

“I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction,” the actor says in an exclusive statement. “I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family.”

Duchovny, 48, has been married to actress Téa Leoni since 1997. They have two children, daughter Madelaine West, 9, and son Kyd, 6.
