David Beckham too old to play for England?

According to his coach, he might be!

Injured Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is “probably a bit too old” to play for England again, Coach Fabio Capello told Britain’s ITV Sport on Wednesday.

“Thank you, David,” Capello added.

Beckham, 35, was unable to play for England in the World Cup after rupturing his Achilles’ tendon injury in March while on loan to AC Milan from the Galaxy. He wound up serving as a member of Capello’s backroom staff during the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Beckham has resumed training in Los Angeles, where he told reporters he has set a mid-September return date for himself. (Pics of him practicing this afternoon!)

“The doctor said Oct. 1 but I hope it can be a few weeks before that,” he said. “I’ll know personally when I’m right. It’s my knowing if I’m right or not.”

Beckham has played in 115 games for England, second only to goalkeeper Peter Shilton’s 125.

David Beckham turns down lucrative TV deals to support England soccer team!

Today it emerged that he had turned down a host of lucrative deals to work as a TV pundit because he hopes to perform a job for England coach Fabio Capello.

The 35-year-old sportsman, who was today pictured arriving at Heathrow Airport from his Los Angeles base, had been flooded with offers from the BBC, ITV, ESPN and TV stations from South America, South Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

But it seems Becks has decided to put his country before his bank balance, freeing himself up to do what’s needed in the England camp.

His exact duties will depend on the discussions he has with England manager Fabio Capello – but the veteran former captain, with more than 100 caps to his name, is popular among the squad and could provide an A-list morale boost.

Capello has said he believes Beckham can be ‘an important man in the dressing room’ despite his injury.

David Beckham: ‘Hope to make swift and full recovery’

David Beckham will miss the World Cup and most if not all the Los Angeles Galaxy season after tearing his left Achilles’ tendon Sunday while playing for AC Milan.

His international career for England is all but over. It remains to be seen how much he’ll have left for the Galaxy and Major League Soccer.

“He will miss the World Cup for sure,” a person familiar with the injury told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made. The person said it was likely the 34-year-old midfielder will play again.

Beckham was injured without getting hit during AC Milan’s 1-0 Italian League win over Chievo Verona.

With only a few minutes remaining and the score 0-0, Beckham was by himself with the ball at his feet, shifted his weight and reached a hand down to his left heel. Beckham then stood up and snapped his wrists like he was breaking a twig in half in a gesture to show the AC Milan bench he knew the tendon was broken.

Visibly in pain and in tears, Beckham went to the sideline for medical attention, leaving Milan a man short because it had made all three substitutions.

“He felt the muscle begin to come up, which is a typical symptom when you break an Achilles’ tendon,” Milan coach Leonardo told Sky. “This is a real blow.”

Sky reported that Beckham said, ‘It’s broken, it’s broken,” when he came off.

Club physician Jean Pierre Meersseman told Italy’s Sky TV that Beckham will fly to Finland, where he will be treated by specialist surgeon Dr. Sakari Orava.

“He’ll go to Finland tomorrow and will be operated on probably tomorrow afternoon or Tuesday morning,” Meersseman said.

David Beckham says he hopes to make a “swift and full recovery” from the ruptured Achilles’ tendon, an injury that will likely prevent him from playing at the World Cup.

David Beckham scared of stripping?

FP_IMAGE_3584447/FP_SET_3583744

David Beckham finds stripping “daunting”.

The England soccer player famously posed in his underwear for an Emporio Armani underwear campaign but admits it was not something that came naturally to him.

He told 10 magazine: “I still feel quite shy when I see a poster or campaign like that.

“It was daunting stripping off in front of a roomful of people. But after a while you get used to it – although my mum still hasn’t.”

While the 34-year-old soccer star’s mother Sandra may not have been too happy with the shoot, his three children – ten-year-old Brooklyn, Romeo, six and Cruz, four – found the adverts amusing.

David said last year: “When they first saw then they were like, ‘Daddy, why are you in your underwear so everyone can see?’ They don’t mind. If they were older they’d be embarrassed, maybe.”

David previously admitted he was delighted to be offered the job by Armani because he got to work with his wife Victoria, who modeled the female range for the Italian fashion house.

He said: “We never get a chance to work together and when we do, it’s amazing. It was great to work with her on the day.”
