David Beckham’s soccer team have defended the sports star after he came under fire from fans for his ‘movie star’ lifestyle.

The L.A. Galaxy player has been accused of spending too much time partying with friends including Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria Parker and Tom Cruise - to the detriment of his game.

Beckham joined the California-based squad in 2007 but despite paying a multi-million dollar sum for the player, the team have failed to win any major trophies. And supporters have been quick to blame the soccer star’s celebrity lifestyle.

Fan leader Rick Cordillo says, “He’s spending more time on red carpets than he is on green grass - and what kind of example is he setting younger players with the team struggling the way it is?”

But bosses at L.A. Galaxy have hit back, defending Beckham’s lifestyle and insisting it doesn’t have a negative impact on the players.
A spokesman for the club says, “He’s the first one on the training pitch and the last one off. What he does in his private life in no way reflects on the team. He’s a major celebrity and he’s bound to attract attention wherever he goes.”

Soccer stud David Beckham had to tackle the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department yesterday afternoon when he was pulled over for a traffic violation.

The L.A. Galaxy star was cited by a traffic cop in Hollywood as he attempted to escape a pack of photographers, who were tailing his black SUV. The squeaky-clean English sports star, who scored his first goal for the Galaxy just last week, spent five minutes chatting to the friendly motorbike cop who pulled him over.

A bystander says, “David was really co-operative. I think he knew he was in the wrong.”

David Beckham has presented his lavish Dubai mansion to his mother and father-in-law as a gift.

The L.A. Galaxy star bought the property for just $1.6 million in 2002 - but the waterfront villa, set on a palm-shaped artificial island, is now reportedly worth an estimated $16 million.

Although the 33-year-old will retain ownership of the home, he has handed the keys over to Tony and Jackie Adams, the parents of his wife Victoria, and instructed them to redecorate as they wish.

A source close to the Beckham family tells British newspaper the News Of The World, “David realized he was not going to be able to spend any time in Dubai.

“He’s got his commitments in Los Angeles and it’s a long trip, especially when he still has to spend a lot of time in London. So he discussed it with Victoria and decided that the Dubai place would be a really special present for her parents.

“They’ve done so much for the family already and are involved in all of David and Victoria’s ventures anyway. He trusts them completely and knows the property will be in very safe hands.

“He still retains legal ownership, but on a day-to-day basis it’s to become their place. He’s a practical guy and thinks there’s no reason to have an amazing house sitting empty.”

David Beckham loved dating his now wife Victoria Beckham when their relationship wasn’t in the public eye - hailing their time away from the media glare “amazing”.

The 32-year-old shared his first kiss with the former Spice Girl in a restaurant parking lot, and loved the secrecy surrounding their pairing when they began dating in 1997.

Speaking to U.S. TV talk show host Jay Leno on The Tonight Show on Tuesday, he said, ” For the first three months it was amazing because no one found out about us being together. We loved that because we could sneak around. Our first kiss was in the car park of a restaurant. We used to drive to places and just spend as much time together as possible and that was an amazing time in our relationship.”

English soccer ace David Beckham was terrified by his mum’s reaction to his underwear modelling campaign for fashion house Emporio Armani.

The 32-year-old star appeared in raunchy black and white promo shots for the label in December last year, which saw Beckham posing in briefs with his legs apart.

And Beckham admitted to U.S. TV talk show host Jay Leno on The Tonight Show on Tuesday, his mother wasn’t too pleased with the provocative photographs.

He told Leno, “When the photos came out, she was the first one to call me and say, ‘What are you doing?’ I had to try and explain it to her and it didn’t go down that well.”
