Daniel Radcliffe “loathes” homophobia

Daniel Radcliffe

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has confessed in a frank interview to a gay magazine – he is a Liberal Democrat.

The handsome actor – who turned 20 yesterday – appears on the latest cover of Attitude and inside reveals his true political feelings.

He tells of his deep dislike for Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Tory leader David Cameron.

The multi-millionaire also tells how he grew up surrounded by his parents’ gay pals and hates anyone with a homophobic attitude.

Radcliffe – who is not gay and is dating actress Laura O’Toole – said: “I just loathe homophobia. It’s just disgusting and animal and stupid and it’s just thick people who can’t get their heads around it and are just scared. I grew up around gay people entirely. I was the only child in my class who had any experience of homosexuality or anything like that.”

The actor – who battles soul-sucking Dementors as the boy wizard and is currently starring in Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince – said he supports Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg because the other parties offer nothing to young people.

He said: “I rather like Nick Clegg. At the next election I will almost certainly vote Lib Dem. If all the people who liked them voted for them you could change politics overnight and we could have a proper three party system.”

Asked about Gordon Brown he said: “Paul Merton said, and I agree with him, ‘it’s a tragedy that this man has waited all his life to do this job – and now he finds out he can’t do it.’

“I don’t like the New Labour thing. I never experienced the optimism of New Labour, I was too young but I hear everyone was up and it was fantastic. I’ve only seen the bad years of it.”

Radcliffe’s opinion on David Cameron is no more positive.

He raged: “No! No, no, no, no, no! David Cameron is barely distinguishable from Tony Blair.”

He added: “I think the reason why people don’t vote is because the politicians are all so central now, it doesn’t seem to matter who you vote for.”

He also blasted the BNP who won two seats in the recent Euro elections, saying: “I hate any type of prejudice.”

Daniel Radcliffe is a lazy son

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe’s parents still do his washing.

The 19-year-old ‘Harry Potter’ star loves the freedom of living alone, but is relieved to live close enough to his family for them to do his chores.

He said: “I’m living in south west London. It’s lovely. It’s a slightly rude awakening, like, ‘Oh my God! I’ve got to do so much more for myself.’ Got to do the washing. But I still live close to my parents and take it round there sometimes.”

The actor also branded the attention he gets from girls “ridiculous”, insisting his fans are interested in his famous wizard character, rather than himself.

He told Time Out magazine: “You laugh off a lot of the attention. You have to dismiss it as being ridiculous. And realize they’re not there for you, they’re there because you play this character. If I play another role, there won’t be 5,000 people to greet me at an airport. It’s Harry more than me. It’s only when you start to believe you’re as good as they think you are that things go badly wrong.’

Daniel is currently filming the seventh and eighth movies in the franchise, but doesn’t think he has been typecast by the character.

He added to Britain’s Time Out magazine: “A lot of people will be generous and open-minded enough to see me as other people. But I think that to a lot of people I will always be Harry. However, there’s one thing that might work in my favor, and that’s that I’m still going to change so much, I hope. You know, people say to me, ‘Are you worried about being typecast?’ – I’ve got to say no. I haven’t been so far, so I don’t know why I should in the future.”

Daniel Radcliffe thinks it’s awesome that people think he’s gay

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe became world famous overnight when he was cast in the lead of the movie versions of J.K. Rowling’s monstrously popular ‘Harry Potter’ novels — he was just 11. Yet somehow, in a movie industry where super-sized egos and a grand sense of entitlement are often excused, Radcliffe remains grounded, genuine and self-deprecating.

As movie no. 6, ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,’ makes its way to a sure-to-be blockbuster opening, a grown-up Radcliffe, now 19, speaks candidly to Moviefone about transitioning from child star to sex symbol, dropping trou on stage in ‘Equus’ — and why he really thinks Dumbledore was outed. – By Kevin Polowy

You became rich and famous so quickly and at such a young age. How in the world did you avoid turning into a raging a-hole?

[Laughs] Thank you very much. Nicely phrased. I think I have just always had an awareness that when you go to a premiere and people start cheering and shouting your name and stuff, they are shouting at a perception of you that they have. They are shouting at an idea of you as a famous person. They don’t know me. They might still like me if they got to know me, but it would be a different person than the one that they’re cheering for. If you think they’re cheering for you and all your flaws, and the slobbishness, and everything else that goes with you, that’s when I think you start to become thick-headed and believe your own hype. Also I just think I’ve been lucky enough to have great parents, and I’ve had good people around me who have always been honest with me, who would give me a purely metaphorical slap if I ever got too big for my boots. I really think that’s what it comes down to. I think England is a place that is not tolerant of arrogance, and also the reaction to arrogance in England is different than it is in the States, because sometimes in the States, people can be a bit freaked out by that thinking and back off, whereas in England, they become more aggressive at you and take the piss out of you. In England, anybody’s arrogance is just lampooned, constantly. When you grow up in that culture, you know that’s not what you want to be.

Daniel Radcliffe: Robert Pattinson is a better sex symbol

Daniel Radcliffe

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe says ladies are better off lusting after Twilight’s Robert Pattinson.

“Rob Pattinson is a sex symbol. Rob Pattinson is a genuine sexy guy. He’s got the height,” Radcliffe, 19, told Usmagazine.com Thursday at the NYC premiere of Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince. “If girls like short and nerdy, then I’m a sex symbol!”

He said he hasn’t spoken much to Pattinson, whose Twilight films are just as popular with teens as the Potter ones.

“I’ve said probably three words to him in the last three years and that was before Twilight all kicked off,” Radcliffe told Us. “But I wish him well. Hopefully, I’ll see him at some point. He’s bound to turn up at one of these [premieres] at some point.”

Though he is mum on his dating life — “As a romantic leading man, I try to keep my personal life as far removed from the film as possible,” he said — he said he can still get gushy.

“I suppose I am fairly romantic in my own life!” he told Us. “You know, I like to think I am. Maybe ex-girlfriends might disagree with me!

When it comes to being romantic, “It’s always really long and involved. It involves a trail of notes!”

Rupert Grint is a tipsy wizard!

Rupert Grint

Rupert Grint got so drunk at the premiere of ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ he got into the wrong car the next day.

The 20-year-old actor – who plays Harry’s sidekick Ron Weasley in the boy wizard films – was already anticipating a “big night” when he walked the red carpet in the pouring rain at London’s Leicester Square on Tuesday.

He said: “It’s great to be here. Premieres are always a lot of fun. Always a really big night – if you know what I mean!”

After the event, Rupert and his co-stars Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe let their hair down at the after-party.

The next morning, Rupert seemed worse for wear, stumbling out of the exclusive Claridge’s Mayfair hotel looking as though he might be sick at any moment.

The bleary-eyed star was so dazed he got into the wrong car, sitting there for around a minute before he realized his mistake.

The night before, Rupert bragged about his drunken antics at the premiere.

He laughed: “When I’m drunk I like to cause mischief. I’ll steal props like the broomsticks from the ‘Harry Potter’ set and bring them out to the pub for comedy value. It seems funny at the time. Trouble is I usually get too trashed to remember what happened the next day.”

Daniel Radcliffe likes older women

Daniel Radcliffe

Woot. Here’s my chance! Daniel Radcliffe wants a cougar!

Daniel Radcliffe like his ladies older.

When it comes to dating, the 20-year-old tells Parade, “Girls my own age are not really an option.”

“I find, generally speaking, they have to be entertained more than older girls do,” he says. “So most of the girls I have had serious things with are generally sort of in their 20s.”

But Radcliffe, who celebrates his birthday July 23, says he doesn’t like getting old himself.

“I’ve noticed I make noises when I get up and sit down now,” he says.

I mean, my knees are rotten bad — I refused to wear knee pads too many times when I was doing stunts, and I just clobbered them up a bit. I am an old man in a young man’s body.”
