Cynthia Nixon caused a big stink last week in which she told the New York Times that homosexuality is a choice, at least in her case. She said, “I gave a speech recently, an empowerment speech to a gay audience, and it included the line ‘I’ve been straight and I’ve been gay, and gay is better.’ And they tried to get me to change it, because they said it implies that homosexuality can be a choice. And for me, it is a choice.”

She didn’t like how her comments were being taken, so she’s clarifying what she meant in a statement to The Advocate.

“My recent comments in The New York Times were about me and my personal story of being gay. I believe we all have different ways we came to the gay community and we can’t and shouldn’t be pigeon-holed into one cultural narrative which can be uninclusive and disempowering,” Cynthia said.

“However, to the extent that anyone wishes to interpret my words in a strictly legal context I would like to clarify: While I don’t often use the word, the technically precise term for my orientation is bisexual. I believe bisexuality is not a choice, it is a fact. What I have ‘chosen’ is to be in a gay relationship.”

“As I said in the Times and will say again here, I do, however, believe that most members of our community — as well as the majority of heterosexuals — cannot and do not choose the gender of the persons with whom they seek to have intimate relationships because, unlike me, they are only attracted to one sex,” Cynthia continued in her statement to The Advocate.

“Our community is not a monolith, thank goodness, any more than America itself is. I look forward to and will continue to work toward the day when America recognizes all of us as full and equal citizens.”

‘Sex and the City’ actress Cynthia Nixon and partner Christine Marinoni have released the first picture of their son, Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni.

Marinoni, 43, gave birth to the babe last Monday, and the couple, who began dating in 2004 and announced their engagement in 2009, have not made public any details of the baby’s biological father.

Nixon has two children — Samantha, 15, and Charles, 8 — from her previous relationship with Danny Mozes.

“Maybe I’m just lucky, but I feel like Christine is so amazing with our kids — because they’re our kids,” the Sex and the City star told The Advocate last year. “I feel like falling in love with her is part of being amazed at how she makes our family so much better.”

“Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni welcomed a new baby boy into the world, according to a source close to the family, who tells Scoop that Marinoni gave birth to Maxim Ellington Nixon-Marinoni Monday morning.

Nixon, 44, and Marinoni, 43, have been together since 2004, and became engaged in May 2009, and Nixon has a daughter, Samantha, 14, and son, Charles, 8, from her previous relationship with photographer Danny Mozes.

Reps for Nixon didn’t respond to request for comment.

Fresh off her turn in the summer blockbuster film “Sex and the City 2,” Emmy® and Tony® Award winner Cynthia Nixon has just signed on as a guest star in four episodes of the new Showtime dark comedy series The Big C, starring Laura Linney. Nixon will play “Rebecca,” Linney’s flaky, long-lost college roommate who re-enters her life and shakes things up in a wild way. The 13-episode series is currently shooting in Stamford, Connecticut for an August 16th at 10:30p PT/ET premiere, immediately following WEEDS.
