Girls Next Door star Holly Madison and magician Criss Angel have called it quits, according to E! News.

Earlier this month, a source told Us their relationship — which began after she split with Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner last October — was on the rocks.

“All she’s doing is following Criss Angel around to all of his magic shows, with no legitimate job to speak of,” said an insider. “She’s still heartbroken and regretful about how things went down with Hef.

“Then she ran into the arms of Criss Angel,” the source told Us. “But then it’s like, ‘This is not everything I thought it would be.’”

Madison, 29, and Angel, 41, began dating late last year after she split with Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner last October.

The two seemed to be in high spirits around the holidays, celebrating their joint birthdays at Las Vegas’ LAX Nightclub on Dec. 19.

“I made Criss a paper ring, but he won’t wear it,” she told Us. “When he starts wearing his paper ring, I will be the one to propose.”

Added Angel, “You know, what Holly and I have is really something that money can’t buy. She is enough for me.”

They also met each other’s parents around the holidays.

Could Holly Madison and Criss Angel be walking down the aisle?

E! reports the couple — who have been dating since Madison’s October split from Hugh Hefner — were spotted at Berger & Son Fine Jewelers in Las Vegas on Christmas Eve eyeing rings.

“They were looking at one ring and Criss said, ‘Would you marry me?’” a spy tells E!. “Holly didn’t say anything. She just looked at him.”

(Madison told Usmagazine.com on Dec. 22 that she intended to propose to her magician beau. “I made Criss a paper ring, but he won’t wear it,” the Playboy bunny said.)

After a crowd began to form outside the store, the pair prepared to make a hasty exit, and Angel “handed the ring back to the sales guy and said, ‘Thanks,’” the witness says.

A rep for Madison admits Angel picked up bling for her — but says it’s not for a wedding.

“Criss bought Holly a ring for her birthday,” the rep said. “It’s a flower ring.”

A source close to Angel tells Usmagazine.com: “He asked Holly what she wanted for her birthday and she said she only wanted a flower so he got her the diamond ring that is shaped like a flower.”

Madison turned 29 on Dec. 23, while Angel turned 41 on Dec. 19. They celebrated together at a party on Angel’s birthday at Las Vegas club, LAX.

Just a few days later, their parents met for the first time on Christmas.

Things are getting serious between illusionist Criss Angel and Holly Madison, but don’t expect him to pop the question any time soon.

The twosome – who hooked up after Madison Split from Hugh Hefner in October – will be ringing in 2009 in Las Vegas.

“We are going to spend it here in Las Vegas,” Angel said. “I have a private room booked for dinner and then we are going to go out.”

Also joining them? Their parents!

“That will be the first time they all meet!” Madison told Us.

Angel recently shared his Christmas wish list: health, happiness and love.

“Those are the three things that you can’t buy and the three things, in my opinion, that are the most important in life,” he said.

Illusionist Criss Angel – who’s been linked in the past to Britney Spears, Cameron Diaz and Minnie Driver – stepped out Friday night with Holly Madison, Hugh Hefner’s former squeeze and Girls Next Door star.

Angel and Madison have been spotted kissing and snuggling over the last several weeks in Las Vegas, but remain somewhat coy about their relationship.

“This is one of the most special evenings for me in my life and I can not think of a more beautiful person, a more special person, inside and out, than Holly to spend it with,” Angel said on the opening night of his new Cirque Du Soleil show, “Believe,” in Las Vegas.

When asked how he and Madison got together, he replied, “I got lucky. I didn’t have a date and so she said, ‘I’ll come’. She makes me look good.”

Following the show, Angel, hand-in-hand with Madison, headed to a private after-party in conjunction with his show’s opening night.

TheDirty.com’s report to the contrary, Hugh Hefner’s alpha girl, Holly Madison, is not moving out of the Playboy Mansion. And she is not hooking up with sleazy magician Criss Angel, either.

“I really don’t know where this stuff comes from,” Kevin Burns, executive producer of The Girls Next Door, tells E! News exclusively. “Holly has not moved out and has no plans to do so. She is very much busy supervising and editing Playmate shoots at Playboy Studios West. She’s also been working with my company on several new ideas for Playboy-themed TV shows and specials.”

He continued, “Holly’s trips to Vegas have been ‘mini-vacations’ to hang out with friends and to scout for the magazine. She’s just having a good time.”

Crisis averted: The end of GND as one of TV’s best guilty pleasures is not nigh, and more importantly, the Playboy empire of high-class hoochie will not want for a queen. Whew.

For her part, Holly posted on her MySpace earlier this week to debunk simultaneous wedding and breakup rumors. About the rumored end of the Holly Era at the Mansion, she wrote, “Hef and I are not breaking up…We are PIC (partners in crime, LOL, Kendra [Wilkinson] came up with that one). We are wrapping up season five of The Girls Next Door and are looking forward to filming a season six.”

The departure of the second and third most serious girlfriends would have been one thing, but Holly was supposed to be different. Classy, cunning Holly loved her “Puffin,” and he loved her. They shared a bed, Holly announced that she was shaped by God to be Hef’s perfect woman, and Hef always said fondly that he sure liked her, too.

Now, it’s true, Holly wants to settle down, get married and have lots of Playbabies, and that’s the kind of thing that just makes Hef avoid eye contact, but still, Holly and Hef seem to have a pretty happy arrangement.

Since this is all cleared up, we can go back to watching and believing in Holly and Hef’s fairy-tale enchantment with each other.

It may be foolish to hope against hope that they’re going to live happily ever after, but we’re going to do it anyway.

Expectations were high when illusionist Criss Angel announced that he would use the implosion of a Clearwater Beach hotel as a platform for his last death-defying stunt. But after the Wednesday night escape appeared to go awry, some viewers were skeptical of what they had just seen.

Thursday, some of us here at FOX 13 spotted inconsistencies in the footage, including a suspicious shadowy figure on our own SkyFOX video.

So was it magic? We report, you decide.

SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ ON OR WATCH THE VIDEO UNLESS YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW CRISS MAY HAVE PULLED OFF HIS ‘ESCAPE.’

What the show claimed would happen:
Criss Angel was supposed to escape from his handcuffs and pick the locks on his sixth-floor balcony door, then pick several more locks en route to the roof of the building. Once there, he would be whisked to safety by helicopter moments before the building blew.

What appeared to happen on the show:
Criss was unable to pick the locks on his balcony door, and was forced to break through a surprisingly thin pane of glass to get back inside the hotel. Then he was unable to pick all of the locks on the stairwell doors and was still inside the building when it was imploded. Moments later, he emerged from the rubble — dazed and dusty, but alive.

What SkyFOX saw:
In the seconds after the blast, when dust was still filling the air, someone dressed in a dark shirt and ballcap — like Criss’ — appeared to run out of a neighboring building and hide among the debris in front of the now-demolished hotel. Watching the A&E footage closely, his ballcap is visible amidst the debris several seconds before he ‘miraculously’ appears in that same location.

And what about that static?
In the A&E video feed from inside the hotel, the cameras that show Criss Angel trying to pick the last locks all blink away to static simultaneously as the building implodes. But what appeared to be several different feeds all switch to a singular ‘snowy’ pattern, one that experienced editors suspect was a video effect and not snow at all, since digital video equipment does not generate snow when the signal disappears.

What does it all mean?
If you are a Criss Angel believer, this may not mean a thing. Maybe that wasn’t really a moving person. Or if it was a person, maybe it was someone else. And maybe all of the inside cameras really went to static at the very same time. But it’s more likely that after breaking the window, Criss fled into the sheltered building next door, possibly via an open window that was also spotted by SkyFOX. Then, he ran out to a predetermined point and waited for the cameras — all while prerecorded video of him trying to work his way up the stairs was fed out, supposedly as ‘live.’
