‘Bridget Jones 3′ CONFIRMED!

I don’t know if I think this is good – or bad news. I absolutely adored the first Bridget Jones – but the second one was a nightmare – ala ‘Sex and the City 2′.

Then I read this tidbit from EW – and I’m thinking a third movie is BAD news.

It’s finally time to re-open the diary: Bridget Jones is returning to the big screen.

EW has confirmed exclusively that Working Title Films, the production company responsible for the first movie released in 2001 and the second one dubbed The Edge of Reason in 2004, is moving ahead with a third installment. Based at Universal, Working Title has been mulling a sequel since 2009.

No other details were available, but last year, Bridget costar Colin Firth, who plays lovable Mark Darcy, told EW’s Dave Karger some details about a possible plot. “I can tell you that Bridget and Mark can’t have children, I think that’s the way it goes on,” Firth told Karger, who was reporting for Access Hollywood. “So then she makes the huge mistake of going back to Daniel Cleaver [Hugh Grant's character] for long enough to get pregnant. And I think he dumps her, and she’s left stranded, and guess who comes back to rescue her?”

The movies are based on Helen Fielding’s novel of the same name and starred Renee Zellweger as Bridget. The first film was an international hit, taking in a reported $281 million. The second was crucified by the critics but still raked in $262 million worldwide.

Earlier this year, the London Evening Standard reported that Fielding had begun writing the third installment of the best-selling books. At the time, she said there had been discussions about the next film. “I will be working on both the book and the film but I don’t know if they are the same thing yet. It’s not been decided.”

She can’t get pregnant – so she goes back to Hugh’s character just to get pregnant? I hate it! Bleh! Lets not and say we did – okay? We know Renee will be back – she’s got nothing better going on. Come to think of it – neither does Hugh Grant. I hope Oscar winner Colin Firth stays away from this stinker… you can do better Colin!

What do you think? Is a third Bridget Jones good or bad news?

Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth on the set of ‘Gambit’

In what is quite possibly the oddest casting news since Ellen Degeneres and Bill Pullman, someone thought it was a good idea to cast Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth in the same movie.

While I didn’t hate ‘Bad Teacher’ (I didn’t love it either) I’m not a huge fan of Cameron Diaz. I’d much rather look at her in pictures than actually watch her in a movie!

So I was quite bummed when I heard that Colin (LOVE!) would be sharing the big screen with her! I’m afraid that no amount of good intentions – or awesome writing can fix the bad casting, but I hope I’m wrong.

Here they are on the set of  ’Gambit’ in London.

“Gambit” is the story of an art curator who needs the help of a Texas steer roper to con a wealthy art collector into buying a phony Monet painting.

Besides Diaz and Firth, “Gambit” also stars Alan Rickman, Stanley Tucci, and loris Leachman. It’s due out sometime in 2012.

TRAILER TIME: “Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy” starring Colin Firth, Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy!

I seriously just got goosebumps.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, is director Tomas Alfredson’s adaptation of the John le Carre bestseller, which opens in the U.K. on Sept.16.

Focus Features will release the high-profile British film — starring Gary Oldman and Colin Firth — in the U.S. on Nov. 18.

Tinker Tailor is based on Le Carre’s Cold War spy novel, and also stars Tom Hardy, Mark Strong and Ciaran Hinds.

Oldman plays protagonist George Smiley, who helps uncover a mole in MI6’s ranks.

Universal and Focus acquired U.S. rights to Tinker Tailor during the Berlin Film Festival from Studiocanal, which fully financed the film and is producing with Working Title. It’s been one of the hottest properties at recent film markets, and will be released in the U.K. by Studiocanal subsidiary Optimium.

Looks amazing!

Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz to star in Coen brothers ‘Gambit’ remake!

Cameron Diaz has just signed on to star opposite Colin Firth in the Joel and Ethan Coen-scripted Gambit, a remake of the 1966 British caper starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine.

Storyline revolves around a London art curator (Firth) who plots an elaborate scheme to con a wealthy collector into buying a fake Monet painting. As part of the ruse, he recruits a Texas steer roper (Diaz) to play the part of a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.

This all sounds great except for the whole Cameron Diaz bit. I love Colin Firth – and I love the Coen brothers – but whose idea was it to cast Cameron? I think she’s a terrible actress, this casting makes no sense to me!

Coen brothers are – of course – the geniuses behind such movies as ‘No Country For Old Men’, ‘True Grit’, ‘Burn After Reading’, ‘O’ Brother, Where Art Thou?’, ‘Fargo’ and ‘The Big Lebowski’.
