Chris Martin is a fan of Miley Cyrus

Chris Martin

Chris Martin has revealed he’s a closet fan of Miley Cyrus and her TV show Hannah Montana.

The Coldplay frontman has yet to meet the teen sensation but already knows he’d like her if he did.

He says, “I like Miley Cyrus… I like the TV show.”

And Martin insists he’d even consider supporting Cyrus at a concert for what would be one of the oddest gigs ever.

He adds, “I’d do it. Anyone we like or respect, no matter how different they may be, we would play with. She’s doing something quite different… I just think she seems to have a sweet character.”

Chris Martin denied access to rooftop party

Chris Martin

Coldplay’s U.S. tour started on a sour note for frontman Chris Martin when he was refused access to a pre-show party.

The British rocker’s name wasn’t on the list for a rooftop bash at the Thompson Beverly Hills hotel on Saturday night, and doormen failed to recognize the singer.

Martin had to sit by an elevator while friends attempted to explain to party hosts that a famous rock star had been refused access to the event.

A source tells Eonline.com, “Everyone’s like, `This is the lead singer of Coldplay.’ The security man wasn’t rude, but he just asked him if he was on the list.”

The mix up was quickly resolved and Martin was allowed to party with his friends.

Coldplay’s album sells 300k in three days

Chris Martin

Coldplay raced to a No. 1 debut on the new U.K. album chart June 15th with “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends”, even though the album was only released on Thursday, halfway through the sales week.

“Viva La Vida” sold 302,000 units through Saturday night, according to data from the Official U.K. Chart Company, making it the band’s fastest-selling release. The total compares to the 465,000 sold by 2005′s “X&Y” in a full sales week, and 274,000 for 2002′s “A Rush of Blood to the Head.”

Chris Martin walked out his interview after being questioned about his new album

Chris Martin

Chris Martin has walked out of an interview with BBC Radio 4 in discomfort at being questioned about Coldplay’s new album.

The frontman was being interviewed for the station’s art programme Front Row when he asked to leave the studio after nine minutes of discussion.

Will Champion, the four-piece’s drummer, was left alone in the studio to answer the questions of interviewer John Wilson until his bandmate returned to stammer an answer to the final question.

The band’s fourth album Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends was released on Thursday June 12th and is expected to shatter sales records for the year, with HMV estimating more than 250,000 copies will be sold in its first three days on release.

However, Martin appeared uncomfortable with being interviewed about the album and its lyrical content.

“I wouldn’t agree with you there at all, no,” said Martin after Wilson questioned whether the album’s title reflected an obsession with death.

“I’d say you’re journalistically twisting me into saying something I don’t really mean,” he added.

And when Wilson asked if the band started with the song Viva La Vida and “the idea within that song of the deposed dictator looking back at his life”, Martin replied: “I’m not enjoying this. Can I have two minutes?”

When asked if he was feeling the pressure, he explained: “I just don’t like talking about things.”

Judging by the album’s sale figures, Martin can afford to let his music do the talking after it sold more than 100,000 copies on its first day on release.

According to HMV, the speed with which Viva La Vida is flying off the shelves means it has the potential to become the second fastest-selling album in UK chart history behind Oasis’ ‘Be Here Now’, which sold 695,761 copies in its first week when it came out in August 1997.

“This rate of sales exceeds even our optimistic forecasts, and shows how massively popular a band Coldplay remain despite having been away for the best part of three years,” said HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo.

“Aside from having a substantial core fanbase, Coldplay are one of the few acts that can genuinely connect with a much wider audience.”

Chris Martin injures his knee right before his comeback tour

Chris Martin

Chris Martin has thrown Coldplay’s comeback concert into jeopardy after twisting his knee during tour rehearsals.

The frontman was left hobbling in pain after injuring his leg in practice sessions for the band’s eagerly anticipated first performance in London on Monday.

And it is feared the injury will further postpone the group’s forthcoming world tour, which has already been pushed back due to unspecified “production delays”.

A source tells British newspaper The Sun, “Chris has been in absolute agony with his knee.
“He’s had to strap it and has been hobbling around the place. He doesn’t want to cancel the show so is going to fight through the pain barrier.”

Earlier this month, it was announced the rockers’ North American trek would be delayed by two weeks. The tour was scheduled to kick off on June 29th, but will now start in Los Angeles on July 14th.

Chris Martin: “I’m still trying to live up to Brad!”

Chris Martin

They may be happily married with two kids, but Chris Martin says he is still trying to live up to Gwyneth Paltrow’s ex!

The Coldplay front man even told Rolling Stone magazine that her two-and-a-half-year relationship with Brad Pitt is what drives him to make his band ever more successful.

“You’ve got to be hungry,” he told the rock bible. “If your wife went out with Brad Pitt, you’d want to prove yourself, you know what I mean?”

Brad and Gwyn, 35, started dating in 1995 after they met on the set of the thriller Seven and got engaged in November 1996.

But although Brad, 44, had said it had been “love at first sight” the couple split in June 1997.

A lot has happened in the decade since they broke up — but for some reason Chris, 31, still can’t get his wife’s love affair with one of the world’s sexiest and most successful movie stars out of his head.

His latest effort to impress the mother of his children, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, is set for its US release on June 17th.

Justin Timberlake inspired Coldplay’s new album

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake was the inspiration for Coldplay’s new album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, according to frontman Chris Martin.

The band’s drummer Will Champion is such a fan of Timberlake’s hit track Cry Me A River, he used it as inspiration for one of their’s tracks, Lost!

Martin says, “One song we’re always trying to chase is Cry Me A River in terms of the beats and everything. I know that is one of Will’s favourite songs. And he did all the drums on Lost!”
