As Rihanna celebrated her 21st birthday in LA on February 20 with friends, Chris Brown remained in seclusion surrounded by the bodyguards he has hired to protect him. “Chris is scared,” says an insider. “Not only did he probably lose his career and his girlfriend, but he’s also fearing for his security and his life.” Chris, 19, who was arrested on February 8 for making criminal threats, has good reason to watch his back. After reports that he allegedly hurt Rihanna during an argument in a parked car, there have been calls for bans on his music as well as those who have vowed to seek revenge. “Chris is a marked man,” a music insider says. “He faces criminal charges and possible jail time, but he’s going to have to deal with Rihanna’s legion of fans and her close-knit friends in the industry.” And the leak of a police photo on February 19 of a bruised and bloodied Rihanna only made things worse. “That photo was the last straw,” the music insider says. “The threats started pouring in the moment that appeared online.”

As bad as the last week has been, Chris Brown may not have even seen the half of it.

At the request of the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, the R&B star is being investigated for a variety of felonies, including domestic violence, assault resulting in great bodily injury and—based on specific allegations made by Rihanna—even attempted murder, a source close to the L.A. Police Department’s investigation tells E! News.

But as they build their case, the source says, prosecutors fear that making any serious felony charges stick could prove difficult in a case where there are no direct witnesses other than Rihanna and Brown. Keep reading… (more…)

Just leave him already!

A week after his arrest following a violent fight with his girlfriend, Rihanna, Chris Brown broke his silence with a statement, saying, “Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired.” But while Chris was finally speaking out about what happened, at press time, the notoriously press-shy Rihanna still wasn’t. “She wants more time to think about everything,” says an insider close to Chris. “She loves Chris but also wants to send the right message to fans by what she says publicly and how she handles her relationship.”

Although Rihanna was spotted leaving LA’s London hotel with Chris the morning after the incident — which reportedly left her with two contusions on her forehead, a bloody lip and nose, and bite marks on one arm and several fingers — she returned alone to her native Barbados soon after. “At some point, she will speak out,” says her father, Ronald Fenty, who still lives in Barbados. “She’ll be all right.” As for the state of her relationship with Chris, Ronald adds, “If it were me, I’d move on.”

But will Rihanna, 21, be able to break things off with Chris, 19, whom she’s been dating for a little more than a year? While a family friend of Chris’ tells Life & Style the two are not currently talking, a Rihanna insider isn’t convinced the star will cut Chris out of her life for good. “People who know Rihanna know how much she loves him and how she believes very much in the fairy-tale ending,” the insider tells Life & Style. “Maybe that’s naive, but hardly anyone who works with her believes she’s just going to walk away from him.”

Chris Brown says he is seeking counseling from loved ones and family members, one week after an alleged attack against his girlfriend, singer Rihanna.

“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person.”

The 19-year-old R&B singer issued a brief statement today through publicist Michael Sitrick. In it, Brown also says many of the reports about the incident are incorrect, although he doesn’t provide further details.

“Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds.”

Screengrabs of a fake Facebook page circulated online late last week, but was quickly determined to be a hoax.

Brown turned himself in on Feb. 8 and was booked on suspicion of making a criminal treath, but no charges have been filed yet. He is free on $50,000 bail while the case is being investigated.

On Friday, Brown’s father said his son is at home and “very remorseful” over what happened. Rihanna is now at home in Barbados recuperating.

Speaking out for the first time since his son’s arrest, Chris Brown’s biological father, Clinton Brown, tells PEOPLE his son is at home, reflective and filled with concern.

“He’s reflecting on this situation,” Brown, 44, a corrections officer, tells PEOPLE in an interview at his home outside Tappahannock, Va. “He’s very remorseful. He’s very concerned about the situation and he wants to make sure that [Rihanna's] okay.

“This is unfortunate, this stumble, this situation,” Brown continues. “Hopefully, he will get past it. We all have our shortcomings. We all trip.”

And Brown – who flew to Los Angeles to attend the Grammys with his son but never made it to the show – says there are “two sides to every story.”

“If you are on his side, you are on his side,” he says. “Just because someone trips, if you are truly a fan, you are not going to demonize him instantaneously.”

The 19-year-old singer is under police investigation in Los Angeles for allegedly beating Rihanna, 20, early last Sunday morning.

Brown says he spoke to his son in person on Feb. 12. “Let’s just say he’s home,” Brown said, though he never offered a specific location. “Just know that he’s home. He needed some time to get his thoughts together and regroup.”

Calling his son a “lovable young man,” Brown says he worries about the public backlash following the allegations of assault his son faces.

“This music industry is very unforgiving when it comes to having indiscretions,” Brown says. “He will continue to be a good person. He loves people. And like most of us, most humans, things will occur. And hopefully a person won’t be judged simply on that alone.”

Like Chris’s friends, who have spoken about Brown’s easygoing nature, his father says Brown was well liked in school. “He had plenty of friends,” he says. “All the kids gravitated to Chris.”

As for how he feels about his son, Brown says, “As a father, I couldn’t be more proud … He’s the light of my life.”

And, he notes, as a teenager, he still has a lot of maturing to do. “I think he’s [going to] grow as an individual,” he says. “He’s going to take from this situation and learn from it.”

Law enforcement sources confirm to TMZ Chris Brown received a text message from a woman while he was driving with Rihanna and that’s what started the confrontation that left Rihanna battered and bruised.

We’re told the text message was from a woman who wrote about hooking up with Brown later.

We’ve also learned there is a reference in the police report to an argument over a rapper, but we’ve learned this is NOT what triggered the argument. The woman who text messaged Brown is not a rapper.

Rumors are swirling around that the woman who texted Chris Brown, is none other than Paris Hilton.

As for Rihanna’s injuries, we continue to learn more. Cops took multiple pictures at the scene. Chris Brown allegedly hit Rihanna so hard with his fists, she could barely open her eyes for the photos — they were almost completely swollen shut. She had a fat lip, her mouth was swollen, her nose was badly bloodied, and she had contusions on her forehead and both sides of her face.

Sources tell Life & Style that this weekend’s Grammy dust-up was not the first time police have been called to deal with singer Chris Brown. In fact, at an unnamed hotel in Miami in 2007, police were called to Chris’ hotel room where the singer had been “screaming and throwing dishes.”

“He was fighting with his mom. Neighboring hotel guests alerted security and they came upstairs to the room, saw the broken dishes and the mess, and then asked his mother to leave the room. Police were then called, but charges were not filed as Chris simply paid the hotel bill and left the hotel.”

A call to Chris Brown’s lawyer was not immediately returned.
