Actress Charlize Theron fielded an unexpected question at a press conference in Venice for her new film, The Burning Plain: a marriage proposal!

“I would like to ask you something Charlize Theron,” the reporter began. “First of all, I really like you so much and have a lot of respect for you but I would like to marry you — and I have a question: which side [of the bed] do you prefer to sleep [on]?”

The 33-year-old Academy Award winner — whose longtime boyfriend is actor/director Stuart Townsend — quipped: “The side that you are not on.”

The reporter was rebuffed. “Oh, then I think it doesn’t work,” he said.

“Security! Security! Security!” Theron joked. “The man with the red… you are very cute, but you know my boyfriend will kill you.”

“Yeah, I am married, I am taken, whatever,” she added. “How much money do you have?”

“I am poor,” the journalist responded.

But Theron still entertained the offer.

“See, we are gonna have to talk about that,” she said. “I will talk to you later. I have something for you, you are ready? Ananas [meaning pineapple]. There you go, sit down.”

Charlize Theron and her boyfriend, Stuart Townsend, have no problem walking the red carpet at the DNC in Denver to promote his movie, Battle in Seattle—but walking down the aisle is a whole other story.

E! News caught up with Townsend Tuesday at a screening of the political film he directed and quizzed him on whether he and Theron, both Obama supporters, would now marry, given that Theron once said that she wouldn’t wed until gay marriage was legalized. (California has legalized same-sex unions.)

“I think she said ‘nationwide,’ ” Townsend joked. “I don’t think she mentioned ’state.’ I want everyone to know that was her thing. I do believe that if you love someone you should be able to get married, but it’s got nothing to do with my life or her life.”

Laughing, he added, “I love her. What more do you want? We are happy. Leave us alone!”

Charlize Theron is desperate to become a mom.

The Monster star, who has been dating Irish actor Stuart Townsend for six years, has previously stated she is in no rush to start a family, but now she’s ready for motherhood.

She tells Britain’s Elle magazine, “I’d be delighted if I found out I was pregnant tomorrow. I know I’m going to be a mother. And Stuart will be our baby’s father. That is something I’m sure of.”

Charlize Theron is so out of touch with modern technology, she is “disgusted” by her own lack of computer skills.

The Monster star admits she is only vaguely computer literate – but insists she prefers her lack of knowledge because surfing the internet can become too addictive.

She says, “I’m so useless with the computer, it’s disgusting. I’ve just recently been told that I’m old school and pathetic but I think you can get sucked into the internet. I know I do on those days when it’s slow and you start checking everything out and then it’s like you’re sucked into some kind of crazy vortex.”
