Charlize Theron in W Magazine.

0608-cover.jpg

Charlize Theron tells W magazine why she gets fed up with the notion that she plays predominately ‘ugly’ movie characters: “Oh, no, you better not be bringing up ‘ugly.’ Look, I get it. Monster was a transformation. North Country was dirt. That’s what happens when you go into a mine. In the Valley of Elah—that’s when I took real offense, because that was just my real hair color and me with no makeup.”

Following are other comments from Charlize Theron’s interview found in the June issue of W:

ON “GOOD MATERIAL” DRIVING HER TO CHOOSE MOVIE ROLES …

“More interesting stories come my way about what we consider real people than about glamorous, beautiful people. It really irks me that people think I choose these roles because if I’m not looking attractive, they will take me seriously. I’m sorry, but if I’m going to play a cop, I’m not going to be wearing eyeliner. I’m not going to wake up in a scene with lip gloss on, because that’s not how women wake up, not even the most beautiful women.”

ON WANTING CHILDREN BUT NOT MARRIAGE…

“I always knew that I didn’t want to get married. I’ve always known that I’d be a mom from the time I was a little girl.”

ON TURNING DOWN “HOT-CHICK” MOVIE PARTS AFTER HER LINGERIE-CLAD ROLE IN 2 DAYS IN THE VALLEY…

“A lot of people were saying, ‘You should just hit while the iron’s hot.’ But playing the same part over and over doesn’t leave you with any longevity. And I knew it was going to be harder for me, because of what I look like, to branch out to different kinds of roles.”

ON WHY SHE CHOSE TO CO-STAR WITH WILL SMITH IN HER NEW BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE, HANCOCK…

“[Will] said that there’s this idea within the industry where you do your independent film that’s made for under $2 million, it’s a struggle and then you win your Academy Award for that, because that’s your best work. And then you do what’s considered these kind of sellout roles in the big blockbusters. And he’s like, ‘Why can’t we do the best work in a big movie that can be a blockbuster?’”

ON HOW HER GREATEST TRANSFORMATION IS ON THE RED CARPET…

“It’s great fun when you have three people coming to your house, and one’s doing your nails, one’s doing your hair and one’s doing your makeup. Two hours later, you look gorgeous. But that’s not my life.”

ON HER SEVEN YEAR RELATIONSHIP WITH IRISH ACTOR, STUART TOWNSEND…

“Man, woman. Like to touch each other.”

Charlize Theron slams fluff obsessed film fans

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron has hit out at film fans, claiming modern audiences are obsessed with “fluff’.

The actress is bitter her most recent movie The Valley of Elah underperformed at the box office and is frustrated she can’t find more roles playing strong women, like in 2005′s North Country, and Monster – which won her a Best Actress Oscar in 2004.

Theron says, “I asked Michael Seitzman, who wrote North Country, ‘Why don’t you write these kind of stories more; these roles for women?’ He said, ‘There isn’t the demand for it.’ It’s not necessarily Hollywood’s fault. People don’t go to see these movies. I think it’s a bigger problem. We’ve become completely fluff obsessed.”

Mark Ronson snubs Charlize Theron’s music

Charlize Theron

Celebrated DJ Mark Ronson upset Hollywood superstar Charlize Theron at a recent party – after he snubbed her requests to play reggae music.

The producer was performing a set in Milan, Italy, and was twice approached by a member of the Charlize’s entourage telling him that she wished to listen to her favorite genre. But Ronson refused the requests, insisting the slow-beat musical style would ruin the party atmosphere he had struggled to create.

The South African beauty was so enraged, she complained to the club’s bosses. Ronson tells Britain’s OK magazine, “I was DJ-ing in Milan and it had taken a while to get everyone on the dancefloor. I finally did and then this guy runs up to me and says, ‘Charlize Theron wants you to play some disco reggae.’ I didn’t even know what that was meant to be so I ignored it. “Then 20 minutes later the same guy says, ‘Charlize wants you to play some dancehall reggae.’ I knew if I played that it would clear the dancefloor. Then Charlize came up to me herself and asked why I wasn’t playing it. “It was all a bit weird, she nearly got the poor guy fired who was running the party!”

I agree with Mark, Reggae does slow down the dance vibe and it would have cleared the floor. If she was being so petty about the music being played, she should’ve just went home and listened to it there.

Practically every A-list actress in Hollywood seems to have had a baby lately, and now Charlize Theron wants to join the mommy club. “I’ve been thinking about becoming a mom for a couple of years now,” the 32-year-old actress says. “My biological clock is ticking, but it hasn’t gone off yet. I couldn’t hope for my career to be going any better, and I have found the great love of my life in my relationship, so I think we’re ready to start having kids running around the house. I’m ready to take on the responsibility of motherhood.” Charlize says Stuart Townsend is “the man I want to share parenthood with.”

Charlize Theron coos about her “husband” Stuart Townsend

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron went public with her unorthodox ‘marriage’ to partner Stuart Townsend over the weekend when she referred to the Irishman as her “husband” in a TV interview.

The Oscar winner was chatting to the hosts of U.S. film show Shootout, wearing a band on her wedding finger, when she cooed about her seven-year romance with Townsend. Asked why she has chosen to produce movies by two first-time directors – William Maher (Sleepwalking) and Patty Jenkins (Monster) – the actress cryptically offered, “I look at my husband today and I wonder, ‘What was it that you said that made me stick around for seven years…’ I’m still sticking around.”

Then, later in the show, while Theron was proudly talking about Townsend’s directorial debut Battle In Seattle, a scene from the film was shown, with the blurb, “Theron’s husband, Irish actor Stuart Townsend, wrote and directed Battle In Seattle.” Theron and Townsend declared themselves ‘married’ last September after exchanging rings just before Battle In Seattle’s world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada.

Townsend revealed, “I didn’t do a church wedding or anything, but we’re married. We’re husband and wife. We love each other and we want to spend our lives together.”
